We've all heard about Kyouya Garyuu as the new prosecutor, and we all know that it has been confirmed that he's a good guy. This raises an interesting question: How will having a good guy as the main prosecutor affect the courtroom dynamic? After all, in the first two games, Phoenix mostly faces off against prosecutors which are completely antagonistic of him (I haven't played GS3, so I can't comment on Godot).

My own thought is that if the game is to be challenging (and what fun will it be if it isn't?) then the killers are going to have to be of a much higher caliber than we are accustomed to in order to compensate for having a prosecutor who isn't completely cutthroat. We've seen a bit of this in the first two games, in case 1-5 and 2-4. In both cases, Phoenix faces Edgeworth after he changes his philosophy on prosecution. Now that Edgey is no longer prosecuting just to get a guilty verdict, both villains are far more competent than others.
Spoiler: Case 1-5 and 2-4
Gant has carefully woven a web of lies and blackmail that Phoenix probably wouldn't be able to get through if he was facing a prosecutor like Von Karma , and Engarde kidnaps Maya to make life difficult for Phoenix.
So what are your thoughts? How will having a "good" prosecutor make GS4 different from its predecessors?

I don't think "good" necessarily means that he's actually a good guy. Rather, that he'll do the right thing when need be. Otherwise he wouldn't be a Prosecutor, someone who deems to get people put behind bars, or even give them death. The term "good" would describe his "nobility" of sorts.

Nobody was more antagonistic to Phoenix than Godot was. Not even Manfred von Karma.

But I think Orca is indeed correct in his thinking. Kyouya seems like a noble sorta dude, which would also sort of explain why he's a prosecutor out to put criminals to justice (other than the needed "Why I Turned Out This Way" flashback/monologue sequence which is bound to happen for him). Although, he also seems like he'll have a very "grey" way of thinking when it comes to justice.

He'll turn out to be a complex character, I'm sure.

Sorry if I was a bit unclear before. Obviously Kyouya isn't going to be on Odoroki's side. That would just cause the whole system to collapse. I simply meant that Kyouya prosecutes for justice instead of only for the win.

Good to know. My point stands, then, that this represents a dramatic change in how we will view the prosecution. All other prosecutors have prosecuted solely to win. The only exception so far is Edgey in a couple of cases (and those cases certainly had a different feel to them). To have a main prosecutor who is morally upstanding the whole game...

Garyuu It appears a paradigm shift is occurring. This should be interesting.

Even without foul play and trickery, I doubt Garyuu is going to help getting you a not guilty verdict. He marely seems to break with the tradition of 'Defense and prosecution must not share views and evidence outside court', from what I can see. With all that 'I'll take you' buisness.

Does it really matter if you optain your evidence by some random witness who found it on the floor, or from mr. Good Guy Prosecutor? Not really. Except the prosecution now also knows of the evidence, which he wouldn't in court!

If you also share evidence with HIM, that means that it will be HARDER for you. The prosecution may not have that many tricks up his sleeve, but you won't either.

I giggled like a school girl when I first heard that "I'll take you" line. Yes I'm gone in the head.
