Why doesn't Trucy recognize him the first time he appears? I thought it was strange.

Apollo: "Friend of yours?"
Trucy: "Hardly!"

First that is from case 3, not 2.

It has been seven years and she was only eight the last time she saw him. I certainly don't always recognize people right away after such long periods of separation.

When they meet at the Sunshine Coliseum, doesn't she recognize him immediately? I doubt she couldn't remember him, considering how closely he was dressed to her. I also doubt she could forget her own father's partner and witness against him.

...Plus, the only thing that's changed is his hair color and he got a moustache.

You mean in the beginning of the fourth case? Of course she remembers him by then. They meet again and she remembers him finally in the third case, so by the fourth case she knows exactly who he is. Remember that she was only eight when she last saw him and that was seven years ago. A lot of time has past and age does usually have an effect on memory. She does start to recall him after their second encounter, but its been so long that she has trouble remembering him. Besides, it's only a split second encounter the first couple of times.

As to not remembering the witness in Zak's trial, Trucy couldn't have been in the courtroom during her father's trial as she had to be waiting in the hallway to help with her father's escape. If she wasn't already in place, then Zak's escape wouldn't have worked, so she probably doesn't know that Valant testified against Zak. Even if she did know, seven years is a lot of time and memory fades over time.

Nah, he means in case 3 near the beginning where he keeps randomly appearing in the hallway outside the dressing rooms, then disappearing before they get a chance to talk to him.

If you think age doesn't have an effect on memory, I can't remember anything from ages 0-7. And 8 is fading rapidly.

Also Valant looks pretty different since 7 years ago- well, despite still wearing his lucky color.
