I know it's probably just to get stuff past the censors, (which is kind of ironic since the games are about murders) but it seems like alcohol doesn't exist in Ace Attorney Land.
I mean, Phoenix's "grape juice" in AJ was already questionable, but case 2 in AAI makes it ridiculous.
Next they'll be saying Matt's brandy is chocolate milk.

I know what you mean. It probably doesn't exist, considering people around ten may play it (I began at age eleven). It probably isn't very child-friendly. But I thought that when Phoenix preferred grape juice instead of some alcoholic beverage in AJ Case 1.

If I'm remembering correctly, hard fruit juice is juice that has been allowed to ferment, forming an amount of alcohol in the mixture. I'd still technically be grape juice though. What do you think?

How is that different from wine? :/ Alcohol comes from fermentation and wine comes from grapes.

I thought the same when I saw the grape juice in wine bottles in AAI and AJ
AND
I also thought that Mr. Badd's lollypop was simply a cigar and Nontendow didn't want people or children to think that smoking is cool or well xD so they put a ball in top of it hah hah

I remember that too. I can't recall the exact exchange offhand, but I definitely remember Gumshoe saying Gant was intoxicated at a police Christmas or New Years party.

Yeah, he says it when you're looking around Gant's office with him and Ema, if I recall correctly.
Not sure what exactly you have to present/examine to trigger it, but I'm, like, 90% sure it's when you're in the office.
I personally think that the "grape juice" on the plane in AAI is kind of a joke from AJ, since they make a bunch of little references like that throughout the game.
But I'm curious to see if it's still grape juice in the Japanese version. :/

There's a difference between actually having alcohol and characters drinking it on-screen, and a minor one-line reference to something pretty much unrelated.

...So I guess there are a couple of references to drinking (like the thing with Gant being drunk / Phoenix's hangover) but they never actually show any alcohol.

I remember one of the official artworks shows the main cast having a picnic. Franziska appears to be spilling a glass of wine on Edgeworth, and I always wondered whether she was violating any drinking laws (the drinking age in the US is 21; it's 20 in Japan). I suppose Franny could be drinking "grape juice" and therefore not doing anything illegal.

There are so many official arts of Phoenix being dead DRUNK, so the alcohol in the first 3 games was real.
It was GS4 which started the grape juice weirdness, so Phoenix could symbolically be a drunkard without the actual depressing consequence. Makes him look soft. I assume GK continues this ref as a sort of joke, but maybe we have perma-censor of everybody's alcohol as a joke now.

Surprised you didn't know, I hear it's Tax free while your in the air....that said the aeroplane charges ridiculous prices anyway. I'd always assumed champagne was offered to 1st Class Flyers as standard.

I'm not really sure where you're going with this, to be honest. Great, you're not fond of people drinking alcohol, but it is quite common. People can easily drink on planes (provided that they are of age). Sometimes it works better for plot reasons to be having characters drink alcohol.
I'm sure your first remark was you just being sarcastic, but I mean.... :/
With that being said, I certainly hope that there isn't a prohibition. That would be a painfully boring time period. And it's not like it worked, anyway.
It's just a cute way of getting around game ratings. I know that in the original Harvest Moon games (or at least in HM64), you could go to the bar and drink beer, wine, etc. In later games, all of the drinks were changed to juice in order to keep the game rating down.

Also, I don't get the whole "can't show kids alcohol" thing... It's not like they don't know beer exists or something...
And what about cigarettes? In the artbook you wan see many characters smoke cigarettes but there are none in the actual game I think (except for
). Or is that just a habit of the artist to draw people with cigarettes
