Who I'm rooting for:

Best Picture: Avatar, District 9, or Inglourious Basterds
Best Director: Quentin Tarantino or James Cameron
Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz
Best Original Screenplay: Inglourious Basterds
Best Adapted Screenplay: District 9

--------

I don't care for the outcomes in the other categories.

Not really sure I have any strong preferences, but I'd like Up to win something. Haven't seen Princess and the Frog, but from what I hear, it deserves an award too. And Coraline was fantastic. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if I'm disappointed.

My guess is that Avatar will probably sweep (and I will be.)

Up won Best Animated Film :D

Yeah, I'm watching this right now, and next I'm hoping to see if Precious wins anything. That movie was brilliant.

In the beginning, why were Alec Baldwin and George Clooney staring at each other awkwardly?...

Turns out you're right! Good call. Not expecting that! I've gotta go see it now.

So ha ha Avatar did NOT sweep. XP I'm happy Star Trek won SOMETHING, even if it was for Makeup with shitty competition. And yay for Up and Cristoph Waltz!

Well........ at least Precious didn't win for Best Pic or Best Actress. Well, I'm glad Waltz got his award. Good job for Michael Giacchino for Best Original Score too..... I loved his music ever since he did the Medal of Honor soundtracks.

Christoph Waltz couldn't be more adorable. "That's an uber bingo."

I didn't really love "The Hurt Locker," but I'm happy Avatar didn't win, just because I never would have heard the end of it from my fiancé.

Because they are both that awesome.

Poor Cameron went home empty-handed. No Best Director nor Picture. Just a couple of technical awards that it couldn't have NOT won. In fact, I think that The Hurt Locker won as much or even more technical awards than Avatar, "the technical masterpiece of cinema."

I still can't believe the Argentinian film beat The White Ribbon. Second Oscar we get for Foreign Picture, and the entire country is ecstasic.

Hooray for Up! Doug by himself would have won it. Sadly I haven't seen Hurt Locker to judge it, but thankfully Avatar didn't win best picture

You've got to feel really bad for him because the director of Hurt Locker was Cameron's ex-wife. :P

I had no idea! That makes The Hurt Locker's victory about a thousand times cooler.

Frankly, I'm disappointed Hurt Locker won so much. It was a good movie, but the Academy seems to be holding it's long standing tradition of trying to be hip and edgey and pick an off the wall choice. I didn't think it was best picture material, I was really rooting for Up In the Air for best picture. Avatar deserved best director, and I'm not going to make anymore judgment calls from there.

Seems the Oscars will never cease to disappoint.

I agree. Avatar definitely wasn't my Best Picture candidate, but Best Director HAD to be Cameron. Best Picture should have been Up in the Air or Up. Yes, Up. It was an excellent movie, not only an excellent animated movie. It would have great if it had won.

Frankly, I would rant, but since The Secret in Their Eyes won, I just can't criticize this Oscars. Also, it seems like it's going to open in the US in April!
