This is a funny quote, but can someone explain it to me? Am I the only one who finds this strange? The dog is called Phoenix, but then he asks something about a fiancee? Am I missing something? Is his granddaughter gonna marry her dog? Can fiancee mean two things? Can DOG mean two things?! Or am I just being stupid?

I do remember that he named Polly after his girlfriend/fiancee/wife, but I just didn't think about it whenever I read that quote. I guess I was being stupid.
