Nadine had dreamed of fire. Everywhere, as if there was a literal hell on earth.
Except... that was it. There was nothing but fire. Nothing to be on fire, nobody to suffer from it. She wasn't even in the dream, just seeing this eternal expanse of flames. All she knew was fire. But that was okay.
She didn't know how long she had been asleep, or how long the dream had lasted, but she knew what woke her. There was a breeze... a cool, quiet caress of thin air that travelled across her arms before reaching her neck; a sudden sensation of cold in her ephemeral land of heat.
Nadine shivered, and awoke.
She was lying on her back, and so the first thing that she saw was the sky. It was dark, but of the tell-tale blue that informed her that the night was only just beginning. Blinking slowly, she carefully sat up and glanced around her before rising to her feet.
Careful to stay fully alert, Nadine stretched her arms out in front of her, automatically doing the same with her wings in the opposite direction. It was with a bizarre calmness that she realised she had absolutely no idea where she was. The deadened grass on which she had been lying, and the woods that stretched out around her, were entirely unfamiliar.
And she was alone.

Walt walked outside the building. It felt like the walls were closing in in there. Besides, he had thoroughly examined each room, and hadn't found anything threatening, but...Nadine was still missing. Where could she be? He sat cross-legged on the ground. This had to be done. He felt like he was losing his mind. He thought he could sense something approaching, but it was probably nothing. What was wrong with him?
Walt closed his eyes and tried to meditate. Of course, as soon as he closed his eyes, he saw the vision Eve had shown him, with dead bodies everywhere, and then, the giant eye from entering Adam's mind. He opened his eyes in a cold sweat. He had to tell the others...that he might be going insane. For their safety, he knew he should leave the group right away. He grit his teeth and slowly stood up. So much for trying to calm down. He turned back to the building, but didn't go in yet. Rather, he paced around in front of it, trying to decide the best approach in telling the others.

Migoto walked around the forest that surrounded her mountain lab. She heard something weird, so she decided to investigate. Now, her brain was telling her that she was a little kid, a little kid who felt like a spy. So Migoto explored the forest as if she were entering the villan's lair.
"Sneaky Sneaky~" she whispered before she did a barrel roll between two trees. Stealth. She had it. Unfortunately, she didn't have the common sense to look where she was going. She snagged on a tree root and face planted in front of Nadine with an "OOMPH!"
((God, I missed being her XD it was always so fun!))

She was snapped out of her thoughts by an approaching rustling, and Nadine immediately put a hand to her dagger and outstretched the other, palm forward, in preparation for a fire attack.
"OOMPH!"
Of all the possible outcomes, Nadine certainly hadn't expected... this. Her face deliberately expressionless, she looked down at the girl, not moving either of her hands from their ready positions as she waited for her to speak.

Why weren't you more merciful? he chided himself. With difficulty, Walt pushed that to the back of his mind. Now was not the time for it. He took a deep breath and reached out with his mind, thinking only one word: Nadine. Hopefully, his message would reach her. If not, well, then...It was probably better that way.

Slightly worried by the at first enthusiastic girl's sudden lapse into silence, Nadine took a step towards her and hesitated only briefly before placing a hand onto her shoulder and shaking it ever so slightly. "Are you oka-"

Nadine jerked her hand away from Migoto, eyes wide, and turned abruptly, staring in a specific direction of the forest. That was... a thought. And the tone of it... the feeling behind it, the person that it was...

She cut herself off mid-speak again. Her layered voice was back. It was only now that she realised that she had been talking with a human voice to Migoto.. not her usual layered one that she had had since her transformation. That was odd. Hearing that one voice/thought had given her 'revenge' voice back.
Turning back to the other girl, she cleared her throat to begin again.
Did you hear that?
Pointing herself once more in the direction from which the faint thought had echoed, Nadine paused before calling out in response.

The stones littering the ground were brittle underfoot, crumbling with even the slightest touch. The rest of the scene was no better, the signs of recent conflict imprinted into the very flesh of the earth. Among the natural rubble, scattered hunks of metal jutted out of the rock and dirt, heat-warped and indecipherable from what they once were.
Wandering away from the pair of armed guards, the lithe man proceeded to casually stroll through the near empty field. Tiny patches of grass had begun to grow among the debris, but it didn't appear as if life would return to the area for a long while.
A glimmer caught his eye, several yards away from the battlefield. Upon approaching it, he saw the crumpled garment, tattered and faded. Partially hidden underneath the seagreen rags, the glint of sunlight off of the reflective glass surface betrayed the mirror's location.
"Jacob!" One of the guards shouted across the field. "We've found two!"
"Keep searching," the lithe man replied, lifting the round mirror from its confines and observing his reflection, his piercing eyes-- out of place on his gentle face --gazing back at himself. "There will be five more, exactly the same. And keep an eye out for anything else missed in the sweep. You never know what may yield of some use."

Nadine nodded slowly, choosing not to question Migoto further. Even the oddness of that statement seemed familiar, but there were more pressing issues. Like Walt's voice echoing once more in her head.

Frustratingly, the voice was still very faint and distorted, even though it was relatively easy to figure out what had been said.
I don't know where I am. But I'm fine.
She paused.
Who's with you?
Turning back to Migoto, Nadine forced a smile. What I said was, where are we? I guess I'm lost. Are my friends anywhere near here?

What a difficult question for Walt to answer. He was outside, but Flux, Hubris, and Saile were all nearby...for right then. He was planning on leaving them after this conversation, after all. Hmmm...Well, he might as well tell her he was with the three, because he was, however temporarily.
I'm with Saile, Flux, and Hubris, Walt sent out as strongly as he could. Nadine's voice was clear to him, but only because he was listening for it intently, and his mind was completely open for it. He noticed if he stopped focusing on her and only her, her voice became distorted. He sighed to himself and thought, Though I won't be for long. He didn't intend for that part to send to Nadine, but it might have.

There was a practically tangible wave of relief that flowed from Nadine's thoughts as Walt confirmed that not only was he safe, but Saile and her other friends were too. She was so desperate for them back that she even missed Hubi's irritating ways.
I'm with Saile, Flux, and Hubris. .... or long.
Despite her best efforts, Nadine couldn't quite figure out what had been said last. She figured that it was unimportant, in any case.
Any idea where you lot are, then?
she sent, squinting at the map as she tried and failed to recognise the surroundings.
