Franz grinned. "Ah, a feisty one, eh?" he said, coming over and putting a hand under Rose's chin. "My, my, Indy, you do seem to have a vay with ze ladies." Indy struggled against the Nazis holding him. "Don't touch her! Let her go!" Franz laughed. "Soft spot, ah? Vell, ve'll see about zat. Take her away!" he barked, and the Nazis forcefully dragged her out of the room and into a truck.

Rose tried even harder to escape. "I-Indy!!" she yelled to him. "L-Let go of me this instant!!" she told the soldiers, trying to get herself free. In her struggle, her notebook fell out of her bag, landing on the floor.

Indy wrestled with the soldiers, who punched him in the gut. "R-Rose! Take me instead, you coward!" he yelled to Franz, who giggled in glee. He snapped his fingers and four Nazis came out with chairs, forcing Indy, Jeffrey, Peter and John into the chairs, tying them up with rope. Then another Nazi came in and covered the floor with gasoline.

"I must bid you auf wiedersehen, Mr. Ford. Your little girl will provide me some much needed company as I take the treasure for the glory of ze Deutschland!" He cackled maliciously and lit a match. "I do wish zis could have ended better, but it vas not meant to be. Goodbye, Indiana Ford!" he said, throwing the match onto the ground. The room lit up immediately, and Indy struggled against the ropes. "Crap! What do we do now?!" he yelled.

The Nazis forced Rose into the truck and tied her hands behind her back. Franz joined her and crossed his legs, smiling rather politely. "Now, fraulein, tell me about yourself," he began. "Vhy vere you with Indiana Ford, of all people?"

Rose glared and spat right in his face. "I'm not telling you anything, you <son-of-a-B>!" she said, her voice thick with hate. "And unlike you, Indy finds treasures so everyone can enjoy them. He'll come for me. No matter what you do to stop him, he's going to save me."

Franz wiped the spit off his face and swallowed, trying to keep from losing his temper. "So naive..." he muttered, throwing his handcerchief out of the truck. "I'm afraid Mr. Ford vill not be alive to do such things, my dear fraulein. He has gotten lucky before, but I believe his luck has just run out." He smiled darkly. "But look on ze bright side! You vill be part of ze greatest treasure hunting expedition in history! You vill join us in bringing glory to ze Third Reich! Doesn't zat excite you?"

Franz tutted and brushed some dust off his shoulder. "Ah, zat is too bad. But regardless, ve vill keep you at our dig site until you decide to change your mind. I hope you will come to grips vith ze fact zat Indiana Ford is dead and he will not be coming to find you. Ze sooner you help us, ze sooner you vill find out just what ze treasure of Nox is." The truck lurched into a start and the convoy headed out into the desert towards the dig site.

Rose followed along. She wasn't going to give in. She would rather die than help them. "Indy's not dead..." she said softly to herself, "He's coming for me. I know it." there was no way she was going to give up hope.

Meanwhile, back in the burning building, John was beginning to get hysterical. "No! No, I don't want to die, no no no!" he shrieked, and Indy just rolled his eyes, looking for anything he could use to escape. "Please, sir, help me out of here! My artifacts! No!" he shouted, and Indy barked, "Would you shut up already? I can't believe you ratted us out like that. You better hope we don't get outta here, 'cuz I'm gonna beat the tar out of you!"

But Indy knew there was no hope. Nothing sharp to cut the ropes, nothing to put the flame out. And surely no one would help them. He closed his eyes as the smoke floated over him. This couldn't be the end. What would happen to Rose? He accepted defeat. Suddenly, however, three men entered the burning room and worked quickly to cut the ropes and usher the men outside as the building collapsed around them. The men were in long cloaks that covered them from head to toe, and the tallest one wore a shining golden one. "Indiana Ford. Jefferson Georgeston. Peter McClintock. Come with us," the leader spoke with surprisingly good English.

Franz simply stared at her from the seat across. "You seem very interested in Mr. Ford yourself, fraulein. Don't tell me you two..."

The truck came to a stop and two Nazis took Rose into a tent in the desert dig site. They sat her down on a chair and untied her, with two guards standing with machineguns at the outside of the tent, keeping watch. Franz entered with her. "Now, fraulein, you vill be staying here until you decide to help us. Please, if you are uncomfortable for any reason, tell me and I vill be sure to assist you."

At one minute Jefferson was tied up preparing to be reunited with his parents, and the next he was outside of the burning building. The shock of what just happened made time seem to go so fast that everything that happened just now was a blur. Nevertheless, he felt more relief than he ever had in his life.

He looked at the building. He thought about the artifacts that were collected in there. Such a shame that they would be lost, but better them than his life.

He finally thought about what happened. "My God..." he said.

Along with those artifacts was Rose's notebook. For a year, she had recorded anything she deemed important. Also, it was were things she wanted to tell certain people, but couldn't, were written down. Unfortunately, all of that was now up in flames. All this valuable information was now turning into ash.

Indy was astonished. The cloaked men stared down at the four of them and stood without speaking for a long time. "Who are you?" Indy asked, and the leader spoke up. "We are the Order of Nox. A legion sworn to protect the treasure of our people from evil hands. We have been following you, Mr. Ford, and your friends as we know that you are in a race to find the treasure before these nefarious villians." Indy nodded, dumbfounded. He had no idea there were Noxians left alive. One of them in the back handed Indy Rose's notebook without a word, and Indy took it, placing it in his satchel.

"We have determined that your motives are pure. We will assist you in finding the treasure." The leader gave no physical confirmation as none could be seen under his heavy and large cloak. "We have eyes and ears everywhere. We have seen the villians take your female companion into the desert, to a site they have set up in order to scavenge out the location of our burial ground. They have not found it, but they soon will, we fear. You must go there, obtain the Key, and find the treasure before they do. It is imperative."

Meanwhile, Rose sat in the chair. She REALLY wished that she had her notebook. There were so many things she really wanted to write down. She got up and began to look for some paper; it was better than nothing. What luck! She found some blank sheets of paper and took out her pencil and began to write things down. To keep the Nazis from reading it, she wrote it all in Arabic.

Indy nodded. He knew this was going to be extremely dangerous, but they had absolutely no choice. "Alright, we'll do it. We'll find the treasure and make sure the Nazis don't get to it. You can count on us," he said, and the Order simply vanished into the street, blending in to the crowd unnoticed. Indy thought for a moment. "Ok, now how do we get into the desert? I don't know anyone who has a car... Wait a minute! I know who can help us."

He led the group (minus John, who was punched in the face by Indy before they left him in the street) down to Salim's shop. Salim was instantly scared out of his mind seeing Indy, who simply grinned. "Hey, there, buddy! Why don't you give us some camels?" he said, pointing to the creatures, and Salim covered his head, nodding quickly. "<Yes, yes, take them! Just leave me alone!>"

Several minutes later they were out into the desert on the camels, heading in the direction they saw the truck go. Indy had a map to the site of Nox's disappearance, so he assumed that's where they had Rose. In the meantime, he pulled out the notebook and began reading.

Most of the notebook was lost in the fire, but miraculously, one page survived. And it was probably the most important page to Rose. It read:

"Dear Indy,
There has been something I’ve always wanted to say to you, but never had the courage to. Ever since I met you at the college when I was still a student, I have had feelings for you. Every time you went off on an adventure, I always hoped that you would come home safe so that I could see you again. That’s why I’ve stuck around so long. I could have easily went and found another archeologist to do work for, but I chose you because I like you. It makes me sad that you will probably never figure it out on your own. You may be a genius when it comes to ancient artifacts, but you have no clue when it comes to emotions.
You will most likely never get this letter, or at least read this, so I will just say that I love you, Indiana Ford. And I will always stand beside you, no matter what.

Indy stared, stonefaced, at the book in his hands. He said, nothing, but he felt something in the back of his mind. She loved him. He was dumbfounded. It had occured to him that she had feelings for him, but he never really thought so. He always assumed she was just friendly, or that she had other guys to be with. He was always so busy, he never once stopped and thought about it. He reread the letter a second and third time, then smiled to himself. Well, now I know, he thought.

Now he looked up at the arid desert before him, feeling the rocking of the camel taking him to what might have been his death trying to save her. But he felt strong, powerful, capable of the impossible.

Indy snapped out of his thoughts and looked over at Jeffrey, putting it back in his jacket. "Yeah. I guess not. But it's all burned anyway." He looked forward again. "Jeffrey, I just have to say; if you don't want to do this, you don't have to. These Nazis are ruthless. It's extremely risky," he warned.

Indy smiled at him. He understood. "That's the spirit, Jefferson. We have a lot of people counting on us to keep the treasure out of the Nazi's hands. Not to mention, he also have to save Rose. I hope they haven't done anything to her..." he trailed off, his face wiped of emotion once again. He saw the dig coming up in the distance. "I see it," he said to everyone, pointing to it. "Let's stop here and come up with a plan."

Rose paced around the tent. She just knew Indy was alive.... He was Indiana Ford! He could get out of anything! Then she decided to go outside to get an idea of the area. She peeked out the entrance. "Excuse me. I have to use the restroom." That would give her time maybe sneak out and look around.

One of the guards looked at her with disdain. "Very well. I will accompany you to the restroom." He took out a pair of handcuffs and attached one to her wrist, and one to his, leading her swiftly to the bathroom. The other guard was at ease, smoking a cigarette lazily.

Rose refused to go in. "I can not go if we are chained together!" she said, crossing her arms. "You may be part of an army of ill intentions, but you have to have some common courtesy! A lady cannot go to the rest room. You have to unlock the handcuffs and turn around!"

The guard rolled his eyes. "Of course. But we can't let you go freely through ze camp. I have to escort you here." They stopped in front of the outhouse they had constructed for the workers of the dig. It was a small shack with a tiny window in the wall, by the ceiling. THe guard undid the handcuffs. "Zhere."

The guard sighed and turned to face the empty desert. He felt like a babysitter. "I can't even see you in zhere. Vhat's ze big deal?" he shouted at her. He couldn't believe he was even doing this.

Jefferson stopped and dismounted his camel. He looked over at the dig site. "How will we be attempting to enter the site? I assume it will be a sneak in?"

He grabbed a pair of binoculars and looked toward the camp. It looked well populated.

Indy stroked his chin in thought. There were patrols all around the camp on either side, plus all the workers there who would spot them. He groaned. "I don't see too many ways in there. If only Rose could help us out somehow, maybe distract a guard and give us an opening." He shook his head and got to thinking again.

Rose opened the door as quietly as she could and took off. She found a hiding place and waited for guard to notice she took off. If Indy was here, she thought, he could sneak in the area when the gaurds were looking for her. It probably wasn't the most well-thought out plans, but it was the only one she got.

Indy suddenly noticed a buzz going about the guards. There were a few shouting orders, walking around, seemingly searching for something. Indy had no idea what was happening, but he decided to take the opportunity while he had it. He gestured for Jefferson and Peter to follow him, sneaking up to the camp and behind a tent. He peeked around the corner and creeped forward, hearing the Nazis yelling in German.

Rose breathed heavily. Her heart was racing. This was.... Terrifying? Exciting? Well anyway, when the coast was clear, she moved to a new hiding place. She actually ran past Indy without even knowing it, and hid behind the first thing she could.

Indy made sure there were no Nazis looking before he rushed into the tent. On the desk, there was a small lamp illuminating the tent and a piece of paper with Arabic written on it. He grinned. This had to be where Rose was being held. He poked his head out the tent and looked around, hoping to find Rose amidst the Nazis.

When the coast was clear, Rose ran out again. She ran past the tent and stopped. Was that...? After running back, she saw the familiar hat. "I-Indy!" she whispered. Then, she hugged him close. "I knew you weren't dead! I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew you would come for me!!"
