Really, the only character I'd like to return from the Phoenix era games would be Lana. I'd love to see another case revolving around her and Ema which would also make up for the lack of character development Ema got in AJ. I can also see her character not focusing too much on Phoenix despite their history together.
As for AJ characters, Thalassa, Wocky, Machi and Vera are a given for me. I can also see Brushel showing up again and taking on the Oldbag/Lotta role of "Oh no, not HIM again!".

Let's see...Vera Misham, Lamiroir, and maybe Valant for the people who aren't guaranteed returns (Apollo, Trucy, Klavier, and Phoenix; though Lamiroir ties into the main characters so she might be a sure thing as well).
Maybe Wocky for some weirdness but otherwise...that's about it.
Now for non-Apollo Justice characters, there are many. Maya, Pearl, Miles Edgeworth, Franziska von Karma, and Lana Skye all spring to mind (Lana in particular; did we forget Ema has a sister...?). Dick Gumshoe if they want someone to assist Ema. If Iris wasn't such a throwaway character I'd say her too (despite having such a close tie to the REAL main character, she seems like she probably won't see the light of day again; which is a damn shame).

XDD Haha, I know, I know. I'm just a hopeless fangirl, lulz. I DO want to figure out the Gavin boys' back story, though. I already have a pretty cohesive theory on Apollo's, so I'm not as desperately curious. The Gavin's is simultaneously easier and more difficult to figure out, since it could be a LOT of different things.
Mostly I want to see old villains, though. XDD I don't like most of the new characters they're putting out lately...

Personally I'd like it if old characters were kept out of AJ altogether from this point on. I'm afraid that if any more are brought back(and transformed like Phoenix)I'll just resent seeing how much they've changed and end up hating AJ for it.

I have a feeling that we haven't seen the end of Kristoph yet, actually. If you look at the GS Anniversary art, you can clearly see that Kristoph is still being treated as part of the main AJ cast, despite what happened in the game. Though I personally don't want to see Kristoph again because I think he's trying too hard to be the AJ Arc's version of Dahlia Hawthorne, I dunno, something just tells me he might appear again, if only in a flashback or something.
Of course, this is all considering IF GS5 is an Apollo game at all.

He was already very corrupt. He's the one who commissioned fake evidence to win a trial, and even if Zak hadn't ditched him, I think he was still planning to have both Vera and her father killed. It's been a while since I played so I'm not 100% sure about that last part, but I do remember that the reason Zak decided to change his lawyer was precisely because he realized (via poker) that Kristoph was a bad person.

Exactly, which is why I said he was both corrupt and had self-esteem issues. Zak figured out through the poker game that Kristoph was bad and chose Nick over him, then Kristoph decided to ruin Nick's career over such a shallow matter.

That's why I don't care for any of the AA characters returning for GS5, being from PW, AJ or ME. Also, this Edgeworth business... Really, AAI 1 and 2 (though the second is a bit 'untouchable') and you guys still want more? Phoenix doesn't have to tell Apollo about every single bit of his past and the other characters' lives don't revolve around him. The DVDs back at 4-2 prove that he hasn't 'dumped' any of them.
Long rants aside, I think Lamiroir, Brushel, Kristoph and the main characters will be back, hopefully with more Apollo action instead of the spoon-feeding that was AJ:AA.
As well as those freaking Black Psyche-Locks.

The AAI games take place 7 years before Apollo Justice. No matter how many AAI games we get, of course people are going to want to see Edgeworth in the "present".

How so? If I recall correctly, Phoenix said that the DVD were sent to him by a friend or something. Assuming he's referring to Maya, this only proves that Phoenix is still in contact with her; it doesn't say anything about his other friends.
