(I know it's late for me to respond to this post, but something came to my mind.)
I'm a bit nervous myself, but I feel mature enough to accept that Phoenix/Maya may not happen in the end, or maybe it will, but if it doesn't we must remain composure. I feel like I will love Phoenix/Maya till the bitter end, maybe even beyond that point.

Don't know if I'm alone here....I sort of understand...But the thought of Phoenix and Maya having a sibling-like realationship doesn't compute to me. It's been implied a few times that Phoenix considers Maya a best friend.

Don't know if I'm alone here....I guess it's the whole "I have to be a big sister to Pearly, and Nick too!" thing Maya says at the end of T&T, and I think I can sort of understand where they're coming from..........but personally, I don't think my siblings would ever cross a burning bridge for me, haha. I also consider them no less than being best friends, as Emiko Gale said

Yeah, but notice it's BIG Sister, like she has to look after him. If it were a REAL pseudo-sibling relationship, well Maya is clearly the younger sister....
I also think that was to convey a certain term that might not translate 100%
For example, in some cultures, a close friend of the family might be called 'Auntie' and that isn't the same as 'I'll be a good aunt to xyz...' And Phoenix never says anything like that.
Also, when people ARE 'siblings' we sure know about it, even if it's only by adoption (Edgeworth-Franziska, now that's a sibling relationship) and it's rubbed in our faces.

I actually often find sibling relationships in media more interesting than possible romantic relationships, because plain old unconditional devotion between people (of the burning bridge, going to hell for them sort...again, see Supernatural) is simply more interesting to me than the romance side, though that's fun too.

Yeah. I don't really get how people ship E/F, because it screams 'Sibling' to me, and not the incest kind, but that's different because they ARE very specifically raised as siblings since childhood. 'Cousin' might better describe platonic P-M if we have to use an existing relation word (not least because people used to marry their cousins all the time till the last 100 years or so) but I never see anyone in the fandom use that one.
By the way, I would say I support Apollo/Trucy, simply because it would make Apollo less boring (and they don't know, do they?) Same for Iris/Dahlia actually, since it's clear Iris loves Dahlia way more than Feenie.
So maybe the 'sibling' people just think 'romance' implied in a game all has to be unrealistic worship of the other person and their perfection and sparkling beauty. You know, kind of like the game itself refutes with the Dollie Saga? Why is the absence of this 'siblings'? You can see the actual siblings in the game either have a rivalry going on (F-E, K-K etc) or else one clearly has a elder caretaker type thing over the other (the big sister, as in the REAL big sister, Mia->Maya, Lana->Ema, who both make a big deal about their younger sister being a kid, and meanwhile Ema even says she 'kind of hates' her sister 'when she gets like this'. Do P-M ever say anything like that? And the only 'sibling' ref we get out of P-M Maya is the BIG 'sister'). There's a kind of equality to the P-M relationship we don't see in the actual siblings, even the ones that don't have rivalries. (Apollo-Trucy doesn't count in this equation, because they have no idea, and I haven't played that enough times to compare it in meticulous detail to P-M, although I don't see Apollo running across any burning bridges, and I don't see Trucy making any serious sacrifices for Apollo)
Still I guess every time people say that, I always get slightly worried that maybe everyone else in the world had sibling experiences I'd consider grounds for incest, though all my friends in my entire lifetime also seemed to have sibling relationships I'd never associate with P-M *sigh*

Hmm, no, sorry, I would dispute that, Phoenix doesn't seem to quite know how to handle kids. A 'father' wouldn't just let her disappear who knows where like she does in 3-2 without them freaking out about it (like it's normal for small kids to have such autonomy) or let her walk to and from Kurain, or all that. Phoenix's good intentions are not matched by any kind of 'fatherly' responsibility consistent with her age. For example, he helps her get the TRAIN home to Kurain because Maya asks him to, not on his own initiative (which just had her running off without him pursuing).
However, he could have conceivably later taken on a different role if they had written it.
'Uncle' maybe. 'Younger Cousin by Adoption'? There's definitely something familial. Pearl is Maya's (loving) family, so his by extension....
It probably doesn't fit conveniently into any 'traditional' classification.

Honestly, when I was first starting out with the Ace Attorney series, I never really saw any hints of this pairing being legit. I always sort of thought of Phoenix as an older brother type person to Maya. And after I had first finished T&T, I had always wanted to see Phoenix and Iris get back together.
Then, I discovered Court-Records and I found icer's Evidence List, and I realized all of the development of Phoenix and Maya's relationship I had missed on my first playthroughs of the original trilogy. I realized how much they grow with each other throughout the series and how much they are willing to sacrifice for each other (especially in 2-4).
I also found nevertalk's fantastic Phoenix X Maya essay over at the Ask Ace Attorney tumblr page. It pretty much added more fuel to how much I adore this couple (especially with this little gem at the end

I liked that part of the game too. The whole thing where they bug-sweep the room is so interesting because of the dialogue, though the actual game mechanic is so primitive

In my headcanon Trucy and Pearl are close friends, and who knows, Phoenix, Maya, Trucy, and Pearl may have been a family in the past, it probably just wasn't mentioned in AJ because it wasn't relevent information for any of the cases.
I also think Maya and Ema may have knew eachother since their older sisters knew eachother, Maya and Ema probably never mentioned eachother because once again, it wasn't relevent for any of the cases.

I wonder if Pearls would've ever mentioned to Trucy about his daddy's "special someone." Then it could be double the shipping power! Mr. Nick will never resist the power of true love!
So now let's just hope that Maya and Pearl will actually appear or even be mentioned in AA5. Now that the story is set back to Phoenix's point of view, there's no excuse not to have them reappear. They're too important to Phoenix's story just to forget all about them.

I hope so too, but it seems like the creaters rather want to reset Phoenix as a character which I guess is understandable. :( But we love the original story and characters and it would be nice to develop old characters instead of adding new characters. (One of the reasons T&T is my least favorite Ace Attorney game.) Franziska could definately use more character development and Apollo, Klavier, and Trucy. I really hope Apollo shows up again because I believe he has potential.
Still, I don't think we should bash Phoenix's new sidekick without having experience with her first.

Also, I forgot to mention Phoenix and Maya's cameo in Investigations. In Case 3, Kay and Edgeworth are talking about how couples who cross the Gatewater Bridge will find happiness. And who happens to be right across from them in a boat? Nick, Maya, and Pearls. The people who made Investigations also happen to be making AA5. So if Maya does appear, there's a good chance we'll see a little romance blooming between her and Nick!

I'm afraid that sounds like it's just as likely to be 'characters that fit in the crime cases' rather than 'old chars happen to cameo.'
I have a feeling he's establishing that it's going to be different to AAI/2 where everyone and their dog of minor chars had a largely meaningless cameo, rather than hinting at the return of any old chars in particular.
And the 'promise' is almost certainly about Trucy not Maya I'm afraid. So continuity to GS4 means nothing to Maya since she was already down the Memory Hole.

I am hoping they'll find a way to make characters from the original trilogy relevant to the cases rather than just make them pointless cameos (I'm looking at you Ema Skye AAI Case 3). But if there's one thing I want to be done away with, it's that they should STOP BRINGING BACK MIKE MEEKINS! I mean I don't hate him but I'm annoyed that he keeps returning in place of characters that people actually like. If they find a way to make him more relevant to the game than someone like Edgeworth, Maya, or Apollo, I'm going to scream.
As for the promise, you're probably right considering this is a sequel to GS4 and also that Trucy's picture is in Phoenix's locket, pretty much confirming she'll be back. But I'm not sure why he'd have to become a lawyer again just to protect his daughter unless she was accused of some murder. Although the 'promise' could also refer to Apollo. If it does, it could give the Prosecutor Justice theory some support. Phoenix could be trying to get Apollo to "snap out of it" as Neni said in her explanation.
And as for PL vs AA, I just have one major complaint. Capcom doesn't want to localize it for us! We're not even sure Level 5 will either. First, AAI2, and now this? Does Capcom just hate non-Japanese Ace Attorney fans or something?
