After Sonic 3 it has gone downhill.

Yeah, the GBA and DS episodes weren't bad but not even the best of them (Sonic Advance 1) could get anywhere close to Sonic 2 & 3.

Sonic and Knuckles wasn't a bad game either, but it was too hard.

Wow, no love for the Blue Demon?! Damn. . .Sonic is the shit, right up there with Mario and Mega-Man.
The games were great until after Adventure 1. . .then this crap started to come out. Now Mario and Sonic Olympics is coming out and I don't see how Mario can even dream to keep up with Sonic.

I'm kind of sad at how people are treating to poor rodent, but I guess I understand.

However, I will alway remain a diehard Sonic Fan since it was one of the first games I've ever played during childhood, though they've been murdering the true blue ver since SA2. *Bows in respect for the blue blur* They distroyed his greatness at that moment.

How is that relevant to anything?

Yeah, I thought the old 2-D Sonic games were the best. I liked both Adventure games but after playing Sonic Heroes I instantly quit. The only Sonic game I've given serious consideration to since then is Sonic Rush but the sixth area got me and I couldn't keep going at that point. I sold it StameGop (typo'd on purpose) and haven't picked up a Sonic game since. I was thinking about the new Sonic the Hedgehog for the 360 but every review I've and everything I've heard about it make me not want to buy it.

But, they're just reviews after all. Anyone can criticize a fairly decent game but I suppose that's only in the eyes of the beholder and I'm still skeptical so no go. Until I play a demo version I'll steer clear of every Sonic game put out.

The game isn't that bad, Sonic gets annoying sometimes and the load times in the city is bull. I still liked it, the music is great and the gameplay is like Adventure. Tails and Rouge are lame, throwing bombs and fake rings, seriously it's annoying.

Well, sir, you've just struck down my fears. That and watching an MV of the game have tempted me to shell out the money for it. I commend you, good sir!

*digs this topic from it's grave*

I'm not such a big fan of Sonic anymore...But last year I learned to not care about the fanbase and just have fun with the Sonic series. (Whatever fun I can have since sometimes the storylines are stupid and over the top and have some cheesy morals.)

But I wish they would stop adding annoying characters or just try to flesh out older characters instead of constantly adding new ones.

My favorite character is Knuckles because of his backstory, and I don't like it how he just became a mere sidekick with no character development and all the character development he did have revolved around his relationship with Rouge.

I also like Blaze...I just wish they would make her storyline more clear. She does have a lovely character design and she wasn't annoying like Amy or Rouge.

Now for ships...I don't ship any characters anymore...As a kid I loved Shadow/Rouge and Tails/Cream but now that I'm older I kind of lean towards Sonic/Amy (sometimes!) and Shadow/Amy.

I am a former Shadow fan.

I still like the Sonic games, despite the weird stories and Big the Cat

The only thing I HATE about the series are the racing games. There's nothing particularly wrong with them, but my problem is how Sonic can run at supersonic speeds, yet he still drives a car when he's racing

This just disturbs me to no end.

Then look at it this way, it's a balance issue to ensure a fairer chance on the other contestants.

This was actually played straight in the Mario Kart universe where Wario's car is intentionally inhibited so it can race at GP regulated speeds.

I got a feeling that now that I have brought this topic back from the dead, most of the posts will be negative. But I guess it's kind of hard to be positive since Sonic hasn't had it very good the past 10 years.

I should probably pick up that Sonic Chronicles game...But again, there are gimmicks (It's a Sonic RPG) and a weird forgettable story. It sort of fleshes out Knuckles I think...But it also introduces a new character. -_-

Well if you're looking for a great Sonic game, check out Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations.

Even if you don't like 3D Sonic, Generations had awesome 2D Sonic goodness

I DO like 3D Sonic...I just wish 3D Sonic had better games like Sonic DX.

I would've gotten Sonic Colors but I heard it was too easy...And I don't think Sonic Generations is for the Wii...And I was too iffy about getting a 3DS version.

Pfft don't listen to folks Sonic has done fine in 3D and recently, generations was good, Colours was good, the non-werehog bits of Unleashed were great.

Sonic Chronicles fleshes out Knuckles a bit thanks in part to the new characters. However I heard the plans for more 'Chronicles' games were dropped due to poor sales or reception so go ahead and don't worry about the folks showing up in other continuity.

I guess I wouldn't blame anyone for the poor sales of chronicles...The controls hurt my hands.

Oh, Sonic, Sonic, Sonic...those games were such a huge part of my early childhood. I remember my family going to some yard sale and picking up a Sega Genesis and a few games really cheaply, including the first Sonic game. I got hooked on it immediately and sought out the sequels. For a while there, I was the number one Sonic fan...heck, I was so obsessed I bought a few of those Sonic comic books even though I had no idea what the hell the plot was about. Simpler times...

Of course, that phase ended...pretty abruptly around the time Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic '06 came out. I had completely lost interest in the series for a while, until just a few weeks ago. I had some credit on Amazon to burn and heard good things about the most recent 3D Sonics, so I picked up Generations on a whim.

My feelings about it so far are...kind of mixed. :yuusaku: It's not by any means BAD, but I was underwhelmed by a few things. There's very little in the way of plot and character development, though I think that might be intentional on the developer's part considering how bad[ly received] the more story driven, serious Sonic games have been. I found the game's soundtrack and remixes to be somewhat hit-and-miss, which is odd considering how consistently great Sonic music usually is. The main gimmick of the game is playing as two different styles of Sonic at once, and they couldn't build some kind of co-op multiplayer? Now, I'm not one of those people that thinks absolutely EVERY game should be multiplayer, but I find the wasted potential there very hard to ignore.

Lastly: the main game is just too short. Come on, a game that's supposed to cover Sonic's entire two decade history only has nine stages and five or six bosses? The huge amount of collectibles and challenge acts remedy this somewhat, but I prefer games with a lot of replay value and it's disappointing that I've already seen most of what the game has to offer in just a couple of sittings. I think they should have at least made extra levels as DLC or something. (didn't Unleashed do that?) I'm also pretty bummed out that there are 3DS-exclusive levels I want to play but won't be able to. Even if I did own a 3DS, I'm too poor to justify buying the same game twice, different content or not. :hobohodo:

Shortcomings aside, I do enjoy the game. The levels are very well designed and fun to play through several times, and there's a great nostalgia factor for long time fans. Seeing those classic levels completely redone in HD really brought out the eight year old in me. :will: I just don't think it's anything I would have spent $50-60 on.

I think they're weren't intending on Sonic Generations having a big storyline because Sega/Sonic Team/whatever was never that good at story/plot...I mean, I said it before but the story of Sonic 06 was so over the top and stupid.

Spoiler: Sonic 06
Seriously, why didn't Mephiles kill Sonic himself instead of stalking Shadow? He obviously had enough power.

Exactly my point. I remember enjoying the stories of the Adventure games enough as a lad, but looking back at them the plots and dialogue are so cheesy and awkward I wonder how I was ever able to take them seriously.

It's better than that cheesy quote at the end of Sonic Heroes. *shivers* And yes, lots of awkward English dub moments.

X-play review. (What? I watched them a lot when I was in high school. And I don't just go around a say, "This game is bad because x-play said so.")
