I looked and I didn't see a topic about this, which honestly shocked me.

Anyways, I figured there should be a place to talk about this series. Shamefully, I only recently got into this series myself several months back. Already beat the first game and I've started on the second. I'm a huge fan of sRPGs so I'm having a lot of fun.

Anyways, I figure since a sequel to Disgaea is just around the corner, it would be fun to talk about Disgaea D2 as well. So let's talk about the series here! What you like and what you hate. Characters, item world, tons of level grinding, the humor, etc.


Can I just say too, Midboss easily became one of my favorite characters in the first game. I loved how over the top he was.

hmm...alittle surprised we havent had a thread made for this myself...though i did create that thread when they announced disgaea 4 though...anyways >_>;;;

pretty much...hes still easily one of my favorite characters in the series...

I remember being quite sad when i found out disgaea 2 would be an all new cast...as many of the characters i came to really like were out...in mid-bosses case his replacement Axel just never lived up too (don't hate him hes a great character with a great theme song as well...but he just wasn't mid-boss). Hell my favorite character in the series though is still easily laharl...just goes to show how much i loved the original.

hmm the order of favorite disgaea games is as follows
1,4,2,3
(one was great. it had a unique sense of humor, fun game play, and the story is still my favorite of the 4 games)
(two while i missed the original cast, it still retained what i liked about the series and improved upon gameplay and though there were a bump here or there story wise it was still good.)
(three started out great...but i slowly lost interest throughout the game...while they did improve game play, i personally feel the maps were made too big and at times made it feel like stages got dragged on.)
(four brought back much of the feeling of what i loved about the first, game play didn't improve much from three but there were improvements, the change from the old sprites to the hand drawn sprites was something i was really happy to see especially with how good they ended up looking, probably the only thing i didn't like was a few of the characters almost constantly saying there goal...but that was really just a small gripe)

I agree that Laharl is pretty great. Easily has one of the best laughs. One thing I really loved about Disgaea though is at times it really felt like the game knew what I was thinking in terms of dialogue. For instance, Laharl could say something that could loosely become something that's a double entendre, and Etna would just go and speak my mind.

I'm currently in Chapter 4 in Disgaea 2 right now, though I've been spending a lot of time grinding in the item world as I'm transmigrating classes. I do miss the promotion exams from Disgaea 1, it made it a lot easier to do some level grinding to have my lower level characters who transmigrated catch up.

yea...definitely miss that myself 3 changed it up a bit with buying skills which to me has had both positive and negative side effects...my biggest dislike about it being skills no longer leveling through using them.

anyways when playing through any new disgaea I decided to always play through the story in a minimalist style
(basically limit myself as much as possible such examples are as follows...

1.only playing a map once as to prevent over leveling making you rely more on tactics rather that being stronger then the enemy also makes you try and decide who needs the kills to lvl

2.only upgrade the equipment in the stores once per chapter

3.no lvling characters or items in item world unless the story demands it in which case do as little as possible)

having done this made the game's quite the challenge but it made me really enjoy the story's that much more...after i beat the story's though...well lets just say i leveled like mad to beat the extra content...though i always did go into those fights under lvl... >_>;;;
