Since Sonic's been announced pretty early rather than later, hopefully his moveset isn't shitty like it was in Brawl.

Nintendo didn't purchase Sega. They have a three-game exclusivity deal, which so far includes Sonic Lost World and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. I doubt SSB4 would be included with that, though.

Nah, bro, Sakurai won't do another thing like Subspace Emissary, no matter how awesome it was. *Sakurai laughs*

Youtube 'Diminished' Brawl?

How come? Did he clarify on that cause I've got no clue what he's on about.

Something about how the videos of the cutscenes made it to youtube, and that it didn't properly give the cinematic ~true special snowflake art~ feeling he had about it.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/ ... ason-ever/

That was a major reason, though for most that would likely be a welcome change, as the Subspace Emissary wasn't very well received unfortunately. Personally I enjoyed it, but I seem to be in the minority there.

It's always nice to have at least a basic plot in a fighting game, barebones or fully fleshed out alike. SSB has always had a light story to it, of a child's toys/collectables being played with (as in, Master/Crazy Hands being the kid's hands). That's a Nintendo-level of absurdity for sure, but if it brings justification to the characters beating each other senseless, that's fine by me.

I disagree, I found Sonic's moveset to be awesome. It's so easy to confuse other players with what you're going to do next since half his moves look fairly similar. That's probably how he ended up being my main.

What about Street Fighter? Granted, I don't know about Street Fighter IV, but the Street Fighter games I have played had not a single story element in it. At least, none in it that really had any impact on the player. Everything, I guess, was in the manual. But no story was actually put into the Street Fighter games, ie. while playing the game.

I think the similarities were the reason why I found it to be a crappy moveset. He looks a lot better in the trailer today.

Street Figher has a plot. There's an evil organization of which M. Bison was the leader that does evil things and is behind a lot starting from the second game. The first game was about Ryu on a quest to be the ultimate warrior and seeks Akuma, his master's nemesis. Chun Li is part of INTERPOL I think, and is after M. Bison. Then there's more organizations, and I didn't keep track.

Dead or Alive, surprisingly, has a somewhat intricate storyline (not deep, but intricate). DOATec is behind all tournaments, all to further Something Douglas' evil scheme to make super soldiers, usually also involving Kasumi's ninja clan. The first tournament's big bad was Raidou, the man who raped Kasumi's mother (birthing her half-sister Ayane). Then it was a Tengu for DoA2 that escaped for the last boss, and Kasumi Alpha created by DOATec as the first successful Kasumi clone. The Kasumi clone is re-captured and made into different forms. Genre, Ayane's foster dad, was the final boss of 3, being a willing experiment.

Lei Fang (originally, before the infuriating retcon) was out to take revenge against Jan Lee for assuming she couldn't handle a bunch of thugs. Christie and Bayman are contract killers. Tina is out for fame, Bass is out to reign in his daughter.

Skullgirls is about a tournament for a dubious wish-granting Skull Heart. Supernatural hi-tec fantasy-cyber-punk, most things played for laughs or played over-the-top on purpose.

Clay Fighters is about a bunch of people mutated by radioactive clay and they fight. Something about a circus in the first game, then more games add a mad scientist. I forget what, it's been a long time.

So yeah, they mostly all have stories.

Actually Cat I think for those interested Street Fighter does actually have a plot that ties into various things...I know there's consistent plot elements between the games, the death of Charlie, Bison using a Street Fighter to power his doom machines in a game over as his ultimate goal, Seth defecting from Bison's organisation amidst others. Then you take into account each of the characters has their own unique story by SF4 and yeah it does have a plot.

Also I kinda liked Sonic then, even if his moves looked similar I sort of liked the way they worked anyway. Plus his speed and mobility options pretty much give you item priority.

ALSO WITH BUNNY EARS YOU CAN RUN ON BIG BLUE AND GO FASTER THAN THE F-ZERO CARS.
^ Best reason to choose Sonic.

Also I will be disappoint if Jaleel White isn't voicing Sonic. I grew up on Sonic SAT AM, and I really can't hear any other type of Sonic besides Jaleel White- or at least a soundalike.

What about that other Sonic show? Same voice.
But terrible "plot".

Okay and exactly where was that mentioned in-game? Nowhere that I know of. And I don't even remember if my brother's Street Fighter cartridges even came in a case or with a manual. Sure, the endings showed, like, Chun-Li working with what looked like police to me. But it never told me much before of what she does outside of fighting.

True, in the earlier streetfighter games the story wasn't fleshed out very well and with so many alterations of the game + the cartoons / animes the story goes all over the place, but streetfighter 4 refocuses the plot pretty well in my opinion. There is too much to cover since every character makes his way into the overall story-line somehow, but I like the lore behind streetfighter. It adds a little spice to certain matches and I love it when commentators include the lore and/or jokes about it during matches.

I agree that StreetFighter is all about the gameplay and the story is just there to piece things together, but you can't say the story-line is non-existent .

Even so Storylines and plotlines are becoming more evident, there's movies and manga made on the Street Fighter series to flesh out the plot.

Also Street Fighter isn't alone in this, a lot of fighting games back then like Guilty Gear or Tekken hid their plot well or added it in as the games developed later on. Point is plot in fighting games is now a common, possibly even expected thing.

Hence my original post on Street Fighter mentioned that I am only referring to the Street Fighter games I have played, Turbo, Turbo Hyper whatever they were called, Alpha 2 and such. I never played Street Fighter IV.

At this point, all I really care about (in terms of characters) is Mewtwo and his glorious faster-than-light teleportation, Zelda and a much-improved Ganondorf (seriously, his arsenal of tricks and spells in the Zelda series is HUGE, why is this man only fighting with his fists?!).

And since I just finished Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Nintendo has expressed a desire to include more female fighters, I wouldn't say no to adding Lucina to the roster, although I realize Chrom is the more likely candidate.

I'd also love to see another Subspace Emissary-esque story.

As long as he eradicates the Gorons, the dumbest race I have met in a videogame to date, I'm fine with that.

They want to release these games as being equal guys, imagine all the space it takes to render those vids, PLUS all the unlockables PLUS all the stages and blah blah blah.

But they are just such morons in Ocarina.
"We cannot eat the rocks in the Dodongo Cavern because a large rock is covering the entrance! What? Eat the rock blocking the entrance? Well, sadly we can't, we're so used to the delicious, delicious rocks in the Dodongo Cavern, we can't eat other rocks anymore..."
Fucking Class A-Idiots.
Come on, you guys, if it's between eating a not-as-delicious rock and starving to death with your race going extinct, eat the motherfucking rock! Why did Nintendo think that would be a good enough reason to shove Link into helping them?

Although attempting to put the Smash onto 3DS and WiiU to make them equal.
Let's see what'll sell for more.
The WiiU where the advantage is a bigger screen, I guess.
Or the 3DS version, where the advantage is the portability of it.

Key word here.
It's fair enough for there to be expectations of abilities based on depictions of races in alternate universes/timelines/whatever Zelda uses but there's no guarantee it'll be true.

On-topic: What do folks think Megaman's Final Smash will be...I mean one thing comes to mind could just be a super mega buster beam but that might be too similar to Samus'. Granted Pikachu and Sonic had very similar FM's in the last game along with Ness and Lucas and ALL THE STARFOX but there were minor differences also given Sakurai's new angle going for more unique characters I'd hope he'd try and work it differently.

I'm thinking these are distinct possibilities:
- Rush Armor. Mega Man and Rush combine and Mega Man has his homing rocket punch and flies around the stage. Similar to Super Sonic.
- Astro Crush, from Mega Man 8's Astro Man. Giant meteors fly over the stage diagonally.
- Flash Stopper, from Mega Man 4's Bright Man. Time stops, Mega Man inflicts higher damage on frozen enemies.
- Call Allies. Proto Man Rush, Tango, Beat, Auto, Roll, and Duo come on the stage. Proto Man mirrors every action Mega Man does in front of him, holding the Proto Shield, protecting Mega Man. Roll, attacking with her broom, rides Rush uses his Rush Jet to attack horizontally from left to right, up to down. Tango rolls over the ground of the stage, Beat circling it. The previous allies leave, and Auto comes to the foreground, and does a pose with his fan. The Big Eddie arrives in orbit over the stage, and Duo barrels through the stage, hitting anything in his path. Then actual Eddie comes off and drops off a random food item.

Maybe not all rocks are the same as far as Goron digestive systems are concerned. Maybe saying "oh, you can eat any old rock" is like saying "oh, you can eat some deadly nightshade, it's pretty much the same thing as potatoes, right?"

Franzise is right. Maybe they can only eat Metamorphic rocks. They live near a volcano, and most of the rock around there looks like sedimentary.

But there I go applying real world logic to a fictional fantasy land.

Regardless of how cool the cutscenes of Subspace Emissary were, the gameplay was bland. Plus, if it meant taking away from the other parts of the game I'd rather not have it in there at all...

That said, my main, Jigglypuff, better be buffed up this time around! :grey:

You mean the one that was OP in melee, nerfed and overshadowed by Meta Knight in Brawl? Yeah, Jigglypuff has always been somewhat of a fan favorite, and I do like her. Truth be told, every character should be a viable option in battle, and the extra care in balance should help with that.

Jaleel White hasn't officially voiced sonic for almost 14 years now, so that's highly unlikely. I don't think he even wants to do it, either. I mean, he was offered the role of the younger version of Sonic in Sonic Generations; he turned it down and they instead decided to make the character mute. He did voice Sonic very briefly in a fan film earlier this year, but that was probably more for the fans than a desire of actively seeking the role.

Besides all that, Roger Craig Smith isn't a bad voice for Sonic. I prefer Ryan Drummand personally, but at least it isn't Jason Griffith... bleh.

If I'm not mistaken, the vast majority of the powers Mega Man has in the game seem to come from the first 3 games on the NES, so I would assume they'll keep the final smash to something from those games. I'm not the biggest Mega Man expert though, so I could be wrong. Maybe they'll just defy all logic and just make him temporarily become Mega Man X or something for all we know.

I read somewhere that Jigglypuff's inclusion in the series as a whole is because it's Sakurai's favorite Pokémon; so if it doesn't come back with some fine tuning, I'll be quite surprised.

On a side note, it also happens to be my friend ButzPuff's main (not to mention his favorite Pokémon in general, as if his name wasn't proof enough of that), and we had something of a ritual whenever we played Brawl - we'd always have at least one Sonic vs. Jigglypuff fight, on Smashville. Not sure how that started, or even why we continued it, but it was always quite satisfying.

Well, it's the voice I grew up with. ^_^;;

As for the powers, I'm fairly confident that Slash Man is from MM7, as that was my first game in that part of the series (I grew up on the first three X games). But you said "majority", so... *shrug* Anyone's guess.

They could make him Megaman X for a bit....call it "Upgrade" or something similar to Warioman (AWESOME).

Either way I hope they deviate from a simplistic "energy wave" from the buster.

But X is an entirely different Mega Man. ^_^;; I dunno, my favorites of my guesses were "Call Allies" and the Flash Stopper.

Megaman's final smash is most likely going to be the Rush Super Adapter from MM7. I mean, Rush is already in the game, so why not make something of it? It'll probably be something along the lines of Super Sonic (flies around the stage but shoots fists around).

I honestly don't know how Jigglypuff came to be my main; it's like I have mains when I'm playing seriously (Lucas, Ike, and Pit) and others when messing around (Jigglypuff and Game&Watch). Now, I just prefer my joke characters over the others when playing Brawl.

On another note, I guess we're going to have at least another character reveal this month and then another 2 next month. If they're also going to commemorate certain game releases (Olimar, Luigi, Toon Link, and Sonic) with character reveals then I guess Zelda/Sheik and Ganondorf (as per Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds) for next month maybe during a Nintendo Direct?

While I know it best from MM7, Rush Adapter comes from MM6 originally.

Those guesses are entirely likely, but also remember that Pokemon X/Y is later this month. Which probably means one of the one or two characters to be revealed this month will probably be Jigglypuff, Pokemon Trainer, and/or Mewtwo/Lucario.

It came from VI but wasn't "super" until VII. In VI you could use either the short-range fist armor or the jet armor with a Mega Buster that didn't charge up.

VII combined both powers into one suit and was awesome.

I was hesitant to post this because we weren't given any details about the male version of the trainer aside from some banter from Sakurai. A playable gender swap for the Wii Fit Trainer? A separate playable character or an assist trophy? Some kind of special move the WFT can do? I was hoping for some clarification on that.

A real gender swap costume option would be major, though. It would be welcome for both the Villager and the Pokémon Trainer too, should the latter return.

Would be a nice due upgrade to Pokemon Trainer, though seeing how X and Y have came and went they missed the expected confirmation of that character so perhaps he got the cut and the pokemon are back to the pokeballs.

I'm gonna assume costume swap and nothing more. We know it's not a NEW character since he lacks the Reveal format, and we know it's not her Final Smash. Though it would've been cool had her Final Smash been a Wonder Twins Power-type special :P
