That'd clearly break her character, since nobody in Japanifornia knows what the internet is yet, and they're all stuck with video tapes and cellphones from the 90's. She'd ACTUALLY start a revolution if she shows the dirty, primitive non-Athenas the wonders of the internet!

I hope people realize I'm not being serious.

Technically it was called the World Wide Web back then, so you can't fault them for not knowing what "Internet" is.

How on Earth did I miss adding a "'d" to my "that"? Oh well. im very best england

Or maybe Edgeworth managed to finally bring down all the porn sites in the future. That'd explain why nobody mentions the internet; no one is using it anymore.

But what was he doing on his computer in that scene after the credits? ...*gasp* The a-hole's keeping it all to himself!

Poor Phoenix was starved of internet. I feel sorry for the guy.
:phoenix: Hm... I'll need to think about it. By the way, Athena, does that little thing on your neck have wi-fi?

So now Athena's just the most special and sought-after person on the planet because she is the only one who holds the power of the internet?

Seems legit.

Either her or Edgeworth. The last time Phoenix tried "convincing" him didn't turn out too well, so he had to resort to other options.

Yikes, I honestly had no idea the dislike toward Athena was so widespread. I didn't find her to be the most original character, but she certainly wasn't offensive enough to spoil the entire game for me. I dunno, I guess I just feel strongly about her because I really didn't think I would warm up to her at first, and yet I grew to really enjoy playing as her and learning her story. Maybe the difference is that I saw her as an underdog throughout the game whereas some people felt the opposite?

I dunno. I can't really put my finger on it, but I really appreciated Athena's place in the game, especially because I felt like adding her really rounded out the Wright Anything Agency. The relationship between Apollo and Athena is one of my favorite things, and actually endeared the character of Apollo to me.

Athena has a lot of room to grow, IMO. Which absolutely make sense considering how young her character is. She still has to work through her self doubt and thin skin. She can be over eager, she is clumsy, she conceals her insecurities. She still has to hold up a courtroom case on her own, for pete's sake. (remember that case 1 was chronologically after case 3!) So much about her character points toward future growth that I have a difficult time believing that her performance in DD is supposed to be a paradigm of anything.

At the end of the day, different characters strike us for different reasons. That's part of the beauty of the game. A lot of Athena's characteristics hit so close to home for me that I couldn't help but root for her. I could relate to her in a lot of ways - the overwhelming desire to do good and do well, the self defeat, the inability to speak up. Maybe that's why her character meant a lot to me. But of course, not everyone is going to have that reaction to her! :)

I don't have a problem with Athena, but I found one of her quirks to be more than a little random. That scene where she threw a full grown man into Apollo...uh...what? Was that supposed to highlight how dedicated she was to her exercise regime or something?

See, Athena would have a much better design if they kept her awesome shades.

I don't like Athena, but I don't dislike her either.
I have to agree about the shades though, some of her earlier character designs I liked a lot more than the one currently in use.

What implants? That's just an optical illusion created by Widget's holographic capabilities.

True. I just can't see how "she has more room to grow". It's as if people blindly love her just because she's silly-happy most of the time. It's good to have some main characters who have high spirits but I just felt like she was all over the place and everywhere... I mean, she even follows along when you go to irrelevant investigation areas! It creeped me out :-P

As I mentioned before it's as if Athena got all the character development Edgey got throughout the entire first trilogy, but in one game. How the heck would capcom make development for her in the next game where it wouldn't feel underwhelming or forced? It's bound to end up being melodramatic, but maybe I'm too pessimistic :-P

I agree, and the quick development felt really rushed and forced in my opinion. And her relationship with Simon was confusing, all of a sudden it's revealed that they are really close, just because they say so. Show, don't tell, please? It makes it hard for me to feel them, so to speak. Their relationship could have been really touching, but for now I just feel confused.

Let it be said that after replaying Dual Destinies, my opinion on Athena has changed significantly. Within this very thread I previously mentioned that I liked her well enough, but she felt too same-y compared to other female AA sidekicks. Replaying the game however has given me a new appreciation for her and... darn it all... she has now become my new favorite character of Dual Destinies. She's energetic, gung-ho and cheerful, but also somewhat naive, careless, and impulsive. She definitely has talent both as a lawyer and as a psychologist, but she's burdened by a lack of experience and a scarred past. In other words, she feels really well-rounded as a character, so she feels a lot more relatable and likable for it. `Perhaps not everyone will agree with me on my stance on Athena and that's fine, but like how in a good story you find you appreciate things or notice things you didn't the first time around, I found myself in a similar situation with Dual Destinies, and I'm sure many of you will as well when you get around to playing it again. That is all :phoenix:
"No one can change the past. The only thing we can do is strive to make up for our mistakes. Why must we make up for our mistakes, you ask? Because in so doing... we can find the way back to our path. And once we've found our path, we can move on from our past mistakes toward a brighter future."- Phoenix Wright

Spoiler:
If there's one thing about Athena I loved, it's how the script writers handled her panic attack in the court in 5-3 and in some extent, 5-5. I've had severe bursts of anxiety like Athena does when Professor Means attacks her credibility, and I can tell you they feel just like how Athena goes through it. Feeling like everyone is out to get you, seeing the negatives in everything people say (even the positive things) and feeling like you're about to collapse or even die. Athena was handled so well, because we wonder why she suffers like this, without considering her a weak character as a whole.

She's fine. I actually liked her quite a bit. I usually have a problem playing as a female in a game (nothing sexist. Just as a male, I can relate to a male more), but I didn't mind playing as her at all. I think she added a nice dynamic to the group.

What I did have a problem with was her being in every single case of the game. I want to mix things up a bit and have a Phoenix/Apollo case, Phoenix/Trucy case, Athena/Trucy case, or Apollo/Maya case (and I don't even like Maya that much). I think the reason they did this with her was so we could use the Mood Matrix every single case.
