It was on the 8-4 Play Podcast, they generally agreed "The Layton segments are nice...but you just keep wanting them to be over so you can get to the Phoenix bits" to paraphrase them.

Clearly they didn't see how popular the Layton series was. Wonder if Level 5 pressured them to release this game to the western market.

Clearly they didn't see how popular the Layton series was. Wonder if Level 5 pressured them to release this game to the western market.
I'm pretty sure Level5 is localizing the game. I don't think Capcom has much to do with that process at all.

Yeah. I'm a good chunk of the way into The Diabolical Box and I haven't noticed a single typo.
Before anyone asks why I started there, TDB and The Last Specter were the only ones at my local Gamestop... So I got them both!

I started playing The Last Specter and really loved it. Miracle Mask wasn't as good but it was still really fun and enjoyable.
I'd say if you aren't enjoying Curious Village and can borrow/find The Last Specter cheap, then try that first before giving up. Now that Azran Legacy is almost out, the need to start with the original trilogy is lessened, since you could go through Last Specter to Unwound Future and play the full chronology.
