E3 this year is June 10 - 12, though there are some conferences on the 9th as well. Nintendo's going to skip having a conference again this year, and instead are doing a Direct-like online presentation called the Nintendo Digital Event on the 10th at 9 A.M. EST, and probably the tournament right after that I think.

It's really a shame. Wii U has such a small library, and while SSB is great, Wii U needs more than just SSB, especially considering there's also a 3DS version. And this means we won't get info on any other games at E3 from Nintendo... who really needs to make more Wii U games.

Just because of the major Smash Bros focus at E3 doesn't necessarily mean that there won't be any announcements for new WiiU games. Zelda WiiU will probably show up given how it's been hinted at for awhile. Aside from that, they've been pretty secretive with their lack of major Directs and game announcements this year.

But then again, it'd be silly not to push Smash Bros so heavily when it's been a system-seller for them in the past.

Quality over quantity has been Nintendo's M.O. for many years; it takes a while for them to get the ball rolling, but it always builds up over time. In the last few months alone they released Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and a month from today they're releasing Mario Kart 8.

Besides, just because they're focusing on Smash 4 doesn't mean they don't have other games on the horizon. They're having a livestream of interviews and demos with people from their Treehouse development teams, so that's something to look forward to. And we do know of at least a handful of other games they're developing/publishing, like Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors.

EDIT: Don't want to double post so I'll add this here instead. Sakurai confirms we didn't see all the assist trophies in the direct, and he gave us a new one:

Image

It's Dillon from Dillon's Rolling Western. One of the main forms of attacking in his series is rolling, so Sakurai compares him to Sonic. As an AT, he does quick charge attacks.

YES!!! I'm so happy Nintendo hasn't forgotten their 3DS stars! I was hoping Dillon would be playable, but at least he's an Assist Trophy!

So it turns out the boxing ring stage has at least one hazard:

Image

See the row of lights on top? Turns out you can get up there and use it as a platform. Even characters with a lack of jumping skills can get up there by jumping off the ropes. Once up there, however...

Image

You can attack the lights to cause them to crash into the ring. Not only does this destroy the platform, it even darkens the stage.

I'm glad at least one person recognized Dillon. Seeing so many people on the internet go "who?" depressed me a bit. He definitely deserves some recognition.

I knew Dillion I just didn't think he was big enough to justify an Assist Trophy slot.

Still looks fun, I'm curious just how dark you can make the Arena get.

No. He's already in UMVC3 and isn't all that great, no need to have him in another game.
Wait, or are you referring to Prof. Wright from SimCity?

Naa I mean Phoenix Wright. Also even if he was in UMVC3 doesn't mean he still can't be in smash. I already had that argument with Blak

Honestly, I can see him as an assist trophy at best. As much as I love Phoenix Wright and have seen how much recognition he has gained, especially since I first got into the series, he's still nowhere near as big as Mario, Kirby, Pikachu, or even Little Mac or Mega Man. Also considering that they already have a third party character from Capcom, I really doubt they'd have two. Even then, I'm sure characters like Zero, Proto Man, or even Ryu and Chun Li would take priority over Phoenix. I'm not trying to crush hopes here, but Phoenix doesn't come close to having a big name like the other playable characters. That's why it made more sense to put him in a Capcom created game as opposed to a Nintendo created one.
On April 3, 2016, Court Records Forums experienced a miracle upon that day.

Sakurai has gone on record to say that third party characters are a "very special case", so the likelihood of getting many more isn't very high, according to him. Also, Sakurai has stated that he doesn't want to include characters that have been in other fighting games. Not only that, but evidence has shown that third parties have never gotten more than one character slot in the roster.

Given all that, it makes Phoenix's odds of being a playable character pretty slim. The most you should probably hope for would be a trophy, maybe an Assist Trophy at best. As nice as it would be, I just don't see it happening.

Stop being so ignorant, all of you! That's clearly the Green Lantern. DC x Smash Bros. confirmed.

Spoiler:
I was going to go for a Power Rangers/Super Sentai joke, but the game does that well enough all on its own...

All joking aside, I'm glad they're including such a recent series, even if it's just a trophy. It's a bit of a shame though, any of the Wonderful 101 characters would've made for a great fighter, or at least an AT. And their Final Smash would've been epic...

Not the good Captain I'm afraid, but rather Charizard's new side special, Flare Blitz. Which I'm sure is going to throw people off, since Rock Smash is now his down special in this game, as opposed to the side special in Brawl.

Today we have info about some characters being mirrored, with some alternate colored characters as a bonus:

Image

Image

Sakurai states that some characters are now mirrored; where in previous games they would face away from the camera when turned around, now they'll always face the camera to show off the best features of those characters.

Since Sakurai said that this only applies to some characters, I'm guessing this won't apply to asymmetrical characters, like Link and Marth.

Also, that red Greninja looks pretty awesome. Hopefully they include the shiny version from X and Y, too.

So Ike's back, this time in his Radiant Dawn attire:

Image

As strong and powerful as ever. His moveset seems to have remained the same.

Image

Image

Image

Ike was one of my mains in Brawl, so I'm glad he's back. I'm not really a fan of the Radiant Dawn design, but I can live with it.

On a different note, I didn't think this was a big deal at the time, but the reaction to the picture from yesterday sparked a lot of debate:

Image

Basically, you no longer have to wear the color that corresponds to your team in team battles, as the outlines will reflect that. Some people think this is a terrible idea because it'll make team battles confusing, others like the freedom of not having to be locked into an ugly color they may not like. Any thoughts on this?
