Um... in previous Smash, wasn't there a PC sign over your party member in the corresponding color? Or am I remembering wrongly?

No essentially they would lock you characters into a palette similar to their team colour.

I've of a mindset that the little outline might not be enough to distinguish the same characters in the heat of combat. However I don't play many team battles and so long as I still have the option to choose a costume close to a colour it's not much of a problem.

Also Woo yeah! Move over Chrom! Ike's muscles are back to cheaply send you flying offscreen at 20% once more!

Fuck yes! Ike!

Another of my mains returning. Makes me really happy, since Wolf prolly wont make it.
His attire appeals to me, as well.

Chrom will very likely be a character, he just hasn't been announced, yet.

Oooh looks painful.

Glitchy positioning and the like are a good bit of fun though in Smash Bros, in Melee and Brawl I remember frequently pausing to see how stupid/awesome everything looked between me and my friends.

I used to do that all the time in Melee, it was better in Brawl because of the snapshots you could take.

Also I just finished Xenoblade. Shulk would be a cool character, but if I'd really love it if (naked!) Dunban was an assist trophy. If Xenoblade does get representation, though, I imagine the assist trophy would be Reyn or Fiora, tho.

A new mechanic, in a sense:

Image

When characters are at high percentage levels, they'll begin to slowly emit steam from their bodies. This is a visual clue that you can more than likely K.O. them with a solid blow.

It's not bad, just... weird.

Well, they do have that "X" game in development, which is a spiritual successor to Xenoblade, so that could be a good reason to include Shulk.

Well, IIRC, the idea is that the fighters are actually little figurines fighting in sort of a 'world of imagination'. Or... something like that. :ron:
So maybe your idea isn't far off the mark.

Well, a few days/weeks ago they revealed that controller for the Wii U that'd basically be a gamecube controller. But yeah, I'd rather just buy the GC controller converter than 4 new controllers.

This really makes me wonder how many people actually enjoyed playing smash with the wii remote.

The Wiimote wasn't comfortable for me to use in battle. It's that B button, it's too awkward to hit if you want to shield and dodge frequently.

I'll be brawlin on my WiiU gamepad this time.

I might be a minority in this, but I still feel that the Gamecube controller handles the best, for me at least. Maybe it has to do with me having small hands, but it fits so comfortably for me and it's easy to get to the buttons I need to. Sony's Dualshock controller holds a close second for me.

As for the Wii U controller, it handles a lot better than I thought it would. For example, playing Mario 3D World and Wind Waker, I thought it'd just be this hulking pile of a controller that would just be too big for my hands to get used to, but I've actually found it quite easy to use and it's not really uncomfortable either. It's definitely one "controller" that's shocked me.

Still, with the Wii U GameCube controller converter, I wonder if it'd be compatible with other games aside from Smash. My first thought goes to MK8, seeing as the Wii version was GameCube accessible, I wonder if this one would be as well. Still, I think it's great for the Wii games that had GameCube controller compatibility.

Geez, I'm posting a lot today. What's wrong with me?

At least this means I don't have to lay down $50 for a pro controller now for something that lasts longer than the WiiU Gamepad (though I still might consider due to its amazing 80 hour battery life).

This is what the bottom screen on the 3DS looks like:

Image

This version of the game apparently contains the data on the bottom screen with only the action on top. Your player name appears in the shaded bar above the percentage values.

That's not all though. If you tap on one of the fighters, this happens:

Image

You highlight that fighter, which helps you focus on a particular opponent. You can also tap yourself to better keep track of where you are on the screen.

While I do like the GCN controller, I prefer to adjust my play style to the modern controller the game is made for, so I'll most likely play using either the Gamepad or the Pro Controller. It's great to have more options, however.

We have a new Wii U stage today based on New Super Mario Bros. U, called Mushroom Kingdom U:

Image

It's not a moving stage, but when Kamek shows up and casts spells, the stage changes drastically in theme and design:

Sakurai also points out that this is one of the stages that will be available at the E3 demo.

We began the week with a new Wii U stage, and we end it with another new one, The Coliseum from the Fire Emblem series:

It's not shown, but there's machinery in the ground that activates various platforms. Otherwise, it looks very open most of the time.

Hmm.... Something tells me that Ness might be a unlockable this time around. I mean, Ness was unlockable in Super Smash Bros 64. Think he was available from the start in Melee and Brawl. Same goes for Captain Falcon.

But then again, it's a while since I last played Melee and Brawl.

Don't worry, if Marth is as good as he was in Melee or Brawl then all will be settled properly on the battlefield. He'll just do it in a fabulous manner :pshhh:

A new 3DS stage was revealed today to tide us over until Nintendo's event, Golden Plains:

Image

Based on New Super Mario Bros. 2, the stage is full of coins. Collecting 100 of them does this:

Image

You transform into a golden fighter with increased attack power and it negates flinching from attacks as well.

Just a reminder, Nintendo's Digital Event is today at 12PM EST, and the Smash Bros. invitational tournament is later at 7PM EST, so between those two events we're bound to get plenty of new information. I'm expecting at least a specific release date for the 3DS version.
