I finally got around to watching the rest of Persona 4 Golden: the Animation. And to sum it up in as little detail as possible:
Episodes 6 and 7 were great, at least compared to the rest of the anime.
Episode 1 was fun to watch.
Episodes 10 and 11 were meh.
The rest can get crushed under a power charged God's Hand.

Finally, I get to romance Kanji's mom!
They're right about Chie being best girl, though.

I'm surprised he didn't mention I can now date Yosuke... maybe he thinks the original game already "allowed" me enough of that.

Aw c'mon man, use LPs for games you don't have. You've got all the means to beat the game and considering you've already started it's not like the LPer can beat the game faster than you can anyway (unless they are speed running in which case it'd be pretty pointless to watch it for story considering they will probably speed through all that story stuff).

Also I restarted my memory card since I made a new account so I lost all my data from P4

I was actually watching SuperJeenius's LP of Persona 4 Golden before I decided to just get the game myself for the PS2. And I do not regret that decision.
But in your case, yeah just watch an LP.

Also, to those who have played the game... what is this?

Is the Protagonist wearing that mask and cape? Looks like that cosplayer from that Manga which I think had the name Uwasa in it? Or is he giving us a Lelouch impression? Or maybe is he turning into Tuxedo Mask?

Nice to see that Meguro is doing the music. And Igor is in this trailer, which I presume shows (part of) the opening? Hm, wonder if they'll allow him to talk, since his voice actor died and they simply reused Persona 4 game lines they had already recorded for his anime "dialogue"...

Ultimately, this looks like we're stealing shit... and maybe it's cause I still have Death Note on my mind, but the protagonist looks kinda Teru Mikami-ish to me now. Wonder if he'll go insane, too. (Doubt it, since I'm guessing he'll be silent, so they won't allow something awesome like that to happen to him) Also: skating across the floor with dance-ish moves? All I can say is "Change! Precure!"

C-A

PS: Since Meguro did the music for both, I have to say that the background music began to sound awfully familiar to Catherine's music after a while.

Gm... To buy immediately or to wait until the fancier version comes out...

To be honest, the trailer leaves me a bit confused. Maybe I just haven't been keeping up with the news, but I had been under the impression that the game would have more of a "freedom vs. tradition" theme. I'm having a little trouble connecting that to apparent phantom thieves (or whatever the presumed main characters are supposed to be).

That possibility occurred to me, but it strikes me as a stretch to treat tradition and law as one and the same. They have the potential to go hand-in-hand, but I've often seen them oppose each other, too.

Uh... we are the good thieves, stealing from rich snobs and... giving it to poor, free-to-view museums? But remember, this is a Persona game and not part of the Shin Megami Tensei games. The Persona games tend to not have the Law/Chaos/Neutral routes that SMT has. (I know people will likely say but Persona IS SMT, but that is a vital difference)

I think that it'd be interesting to have story/ending differences depending on your actions and make it, not alignment based, but something similar.

Of course it'd be interesting, but I unfortunately have read and/or played Atlus games that have the alignments (SMT games, Devil Survivor/2, C/Katherine...) and yet the alignment didn't matter at all until the final part. Like maybe the last hour or two. Which is terrible, because it leads you to not see any difference in the game until that last section. Which is boring.

Finally finished Persona 4 Golden. To my surprise, most everything seemed to be a cut above P3P, which I really enjoyed for what it was. The majority of the social links were also a lot better in general. I actually felt like I was making a difference in everyone's lives, whereas in P3P, I felt like I was just along for the ride most of the time (I'm looking at you, Magician).

I also liked the fact that the lovers routes were completely optional for all of the female social links (though from what I can tell, your teammates can only upgrade to their ultimate personas if you go that route with them, so it's kind of a moot point).

Anyway, my commentary on those dateable female social links from worst to best.

Spoiler: Rise
Ugh, I cannot stand this girl. The shameless flirting I have to put up with throughout the game whether I'm in a relationship with her or not really gets on my nerves. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind flirting as a general rule, but it just seems way over the top with her (it doesn't help that 90% of her facial expressions are basically bedroom face). Can't stand her texting style either. Way too many special characters in her texts, to the point where it reminded me of the Hermit social link in P3. Also, who the (bleep) puts durian and habenero in chocolate? I can see habenero in small amounts (since spicy chocolate is kind of a thing), but fruit that smells like a skunk has no place in it. It's telling that her Valentine's Day chocolate is the only one I don't even have the option to eat. This is made worse by her going on about what an "amazing cook" she is, and the crocodile tears she gets when you say you don't like her food make me think she only thinks she's an amazing cook because everyone keeps telling only what she wants to hear. She honestly the only girl I don't even feel the slightest bit of remorse for ditching on Valentine's Day. Her only redeeming quality was her saying that she was going to marry me after finishing high school and then run the tofu shop with me, which due to it being so early on in her link, I found kind of amusing.

Spoiler: Yumi
Nothing wrong with her in general, but her social link was just kind of depressing (which is really the only reason I'm ranking her this low). I also didn't like the fact that I joined the acting club because I prefer acting over playing music, but I only got to do anything acting related for the first few levels of the link (no, the "Your expression has increased" parts don't count). That said, her Valentine's Day event was kind of refreshing in that she admitted she probably could have bought better tasting chocolates, but she wanted to make it herself because it had more meaning that way. Surprisingly, she's evidently the best cook in the game other than me.

Spoiler: Ai
I'll admit, I didn't think I'd like her very much early on, since she was very much a snobby jerk at the time. But since I seem to have the ability to improve the lives of nearly everyone I come into contact with in the game, she came around eventually. Her Valentine's Day event was kind of nice, actually. She bought me chocolates because she didn't want to waste time making them herself on the off chance I might not like them (which I was disappointed in at first, but then she shared about how special that brand of chocolates was to her, and I was actually kind of touched by her wanting to share that part of herself with me). She also said towards the end of the event that she wanted to make an effort to be a nicer person, which to me was the whole point of leveling up her link in the first place. Mission accomplished.

Spoiler: Naoto
I liked her social link mostly because I was helping her come out of her shell and be comfortable with herself. She's ranked here on the list due to her overly formal way of speaking and her ALL-CAPS texting (that, and I kind of ship her and Kanji anyway). I didn't really think too much of her Valentine's Day event (although I like that she has the brains to use a cookbook for the chocolate), but I felt bad for ditching her simply because for the first time in years, she's finally somewhat happy about being female because of me, and I end up leaving her alone? Even after she evidently left her socks in my room? Way to make me feel like a heel, Atlus. Fortunately, everyone goes back to thinking you're the most amazing guy in the world the day after, so that helps.

Spoiler: Marie
I liked her mostly because she was kind of reminiscent of Elizabeth (one of my favorite dateable characters from P3P) and she was the only person capable of putting Rise in her place. Unfortunately, her poetry kind of sucks. I enjoyed her Valentine's Day event though, even with her giving me ticking chocolate that will melt if I don't eat it, then run away if it melts (I was kind of surprised it was even edible, let alone good tasting).

**Epilogue Spoilers**

I thought it was kind of funny with her confessing her love to me on public television, and that I evidently have a girlfriend capable of controlling the weather

Spoiler: Chie
This was a hard choice. I admit, when I first met her, I didn't like her at all, and I was kind of dreading having to spend more time with her in her social link at first. But then I got to know her, and I saw that underneath that rough exterior, she had this amazingly sweet side to her. Loved her New Year's Day event as well as her Valentine's Day event. She even admitted that she didn't do that great of a job on her chocolate, but she was going to work on it and make it better next year. I felt a little bad ditching her on Valentine's Day (when I abused save scumming in order to see everyone's event), but then I got to her event and it made me feel even worse for having ditched her before just because of how much it meant to her that I picked her over everyone else. She could easily be in my number one spot, but since two object can't occupy the same space at once, I'm only putting her here due to her using too many abbreviations when texting.

Spoiler: Yukiko
She gets the number one spot due to being likeable right off the bat, taking the time to spell, punctuate, and capitalize her texts properly (I just like it when people take the time to do that irl, so it applies here too), and being the best looking of all the girls in the game (except for maybe Margaret, but I can't technically date her). I also found the giggle fits she would get into incredibly adorable. She loses a few points due to her thinking that fish belongs anywhere in the same room with chocolate, let alone in chocolate itself. I did like her Valentine's Day event though, just because hearing about her daydream of the two of us running the inn together was pretty appealing.

Well, that's all of them. I'll have to post what I thought of all the non-dateable characters later.

Not necessarily habenero, but my mother, thank you very much. :ron: Putting chili into chocolate is not a new idea and it actually works quite well. It's just game developers trying to make someone appear like a catastrophe chef by putting things together that, actually, people who know cooking and how tastes work together, would put together because they actually taste pretty damn good.
I put wasabi into my tomato sauces! And it's delicious!

So you like yamato nadeshiko types, huh? I dunno, I'm the opposite. I enjoyed Rise's social link a ton where as I felt like Yukiko's was a complete waste of my time. I'm basically watching her go through her first rebellious phase, just for her to realize that, hey, I DON'T want to do anything else! And her problem is SO EASY TO SOLVE! Hey, Yukiko, ever thought of sitting down with YOUR MOTHER and TALK? :ron:

Quote:
Even after she evidently left her socks in my room?

Oh god, no, not the socks. And I think, for me, my dislike for her social link comes from the cultural difference. You know, the Japanese way of thinking that a man HAS to protect a woman and to treat every woman like a fragile flower. Although Naoto did things pretty well on her own without my help. Plus, I dunno, I hate how, in order to romance her, I have to practically tell her "Be more feminine. No more boyish clothes OR using Boku to refer to yourself." I mean, come on, if I'm supposed to love her, shouldn't I say, "If you feel comfortable this way, that is the most important thing. You don't need to change yourself to please me."

Quote:
Nothing wrong with her in general, but her social link was just kind of depressing (which is really the only reason I'm ranking her this low).

Glad to see she's so low. I mostly disliked her Social Link because she kept being angry at her father, but then, when he dies, she's all "Ooooh he loved me after all!!1!11!!" and is happy. And as Hii'mdaisy's Comic said it so well: And then going to drama got REALLY AWKWARD

Once again, opposite for me. I don't care if Ai's whole fucking reason for deciding to be a bitch was cause she used to be teased and mobbed cause she was fat and poor (not to mention she TRIED TO KILL HERSELF BECAUSE A BOY DIDN'T LIKE HER! What a Bella!) that's not a reason or an excuse to act like a bitch. I don't care if she does try to get better, she's a lost cause to me.
Also, I hate how I am forced into a relationship with her. Fuck you, Ai, I'd like an option to say "Good ridance!!" when you say you wanna break up. Next time, I'll let you jump off the roof.

You kept saying that to the point where during my Max Social Link playthrough, I had to ask on GameFAQs if this was true. It's not. I even checked myself. Maxed the Moon social link, never been in a relationship with Ai. So technically, you forced yourself into a relationship with Ai.

When I checked out her social link answers in a guide, you always end up in a (fake) relationship with her that will get broken up on Rank 9.

Also, who the (bleep) puts durian and habenero in chocolate?

Not necessarily habenero, but my mother, thank you very much. :ron: Putting chili into chocolate is not a new idea and it actually works quite well. It's just game developers trying to make someone appear like a catastrophe chef by putting things together that, actually, people who know cooking and how tastes work together, would put together because they actually taste pretty damn good.
I put wasabi into my tomato sauces! And it's delicious!

*Ahem* If you were paying any kind of attention at all, you would have noticed that I said I can understand habenero in small amounts, since putting chilies into chocolate is actually a thing. It's the durian and the habenero together that I question. Half the taste is in the smell after all.

:ron:

I'll admit her social link wasn't the greatest, but I like her as a character.

I hate how, in order to romance [Naoto], I have to practically tell her "Be more feminine. No more boyish clothes OR using Boku to refer to yourself." I mean, come on, if I'm supposed to love her, shouldn't I say, "If you feel comfortable this way, that is the most important thing. You don't need to change yourself to please me.

As I recall, the only time you can begin to tell her how to dress/speak is in the rank 10 event. At that point, you can get away with telling someone anything you want without fear of repercussions. You have the option to tell her you like her just the way she is. The only reason to tell her otherwise is to get the Girl's Yaso Uniform costume for her on Christmas (a moot point as the girls' Gekkou uniform is available to her regardless, assuming you ever want her to wear a skirt).

Well, I didn't. I remained friends with Ai at Rank 6, then turned her down at Rank 10. And funny you should mention that. Before I asked what I asked on GameFAQs, I looked around to see if anyone else asked that question. And I found this.

I'm saying it, the Answers I chose are the ones that lead to the Friends route, where she dumps me later on. And I don't care. I do not feel sorry for Ai at all. I don't feel anything at all.

So... which one is it?

Regarding Ai's backstory and Freudian Excuse for her actions, everyone has a reason why they do the things they do, whether they're aware of it or not. It does NOT mean that their reasons are good, however.

For example, the big bad of the game explained their reasoning for throwing people into the tv. However, their reasons would never be considered good reasons by any normal person.

So, Ai got bullied when she was younger, which was her reasoning for becoming so stuck up and rude later on in life. It's not a good reason, but it's a reason. The fact that she later admits she has a problem (by saying that she wants to start trying to be nicer to people) is the first step in her road to recovery. People can and do change, and she looks like she at least wants to try to change. Whether or not she will is a different story, seeing as how we don't get to see her in the epilogue. But I'd like to think we were able to actually do some good in her life.

It isn't. It's a poor excuse that is supposed to make me feel sorry for her.
Not to mention it's a huge cliché the Alpha Bitch always bullying and being nasty cause she used to be bullied herself, was betrayed by friends, her daddy doesn't love her enough and mommy expects to much from her, bla bla bla, those reasons are always used to make you feel sorry for the bully.

And no, it does not work on me. I don't feel pity for bullies.
They bully cause they like it. They don't "get" any other way of doing things, so being nice to them never works. It makes you look weaker and all the more likely to be a target. And I'm saying this as a former bully and victim of bullying myself.

There should still be an option to either laugh at her (like you could with Keisuke in his final Social Link event in Persona 3) or tell her that you don't care. Cause I honestly don't. She came across as a bitch to begin with. First impressions are important and changing that is pretty difficult. And simply admitting you have a problem and saying you're gonna try to be a better person isn't gonna cut it. If I'm supposed to believe that Ai gets better, I'd want to see her being nicer and not just be told that she's gonna (try to) be nicer.

It's like Konishi. I still have no idea why Yosuke is so hung up on the fact that she probably hated him. He had good memories of her, yet when he hears her disembodied voice, he's convinced she hated him and all that and lets that tarnish his memories of her. So she might've disliked him. Big deal.
People dislike other people for no reason all the time. Yosuke's social link should have the message "People hate others at times. It happens. You won't like everyone you meet in life." rather than semi-homosexual dialogue with Narukami when he's not moping about Konishi again.
