Are you freakin' kidding me? Are they seriously turning Phoenix into Superman by making him fly around the world to defend the weak and defeat all evil? Not that I'm complaining, but the image is too hilarious to forget.

Yeah, it seems too... odd. At this rate, they'll turn Phoenix into a superhero :-P

Very fitting logo, but they should've applied it to DD as well :P Phoenix appeared a bit too wrighteous at least in those darn cutscenes IMO, like he's suposed to be "cool" or something.

Um. Well.

Usually I consider myself one of the biggest Ace Attorney fans out there, but when I saw this announcement and the screenshots, my first reaction was hesitation and concern. The series has been heading steadily down a path of gimmicky-ness and I'm worried GS6 will only lead us further down that road. I'm not going to draw any conclusions until I play it, but the fact that Phoenix is still front-and-centre when really, his story is being stretched thin, is a red flag to me.

But I don't want to be a debby-downer. Does anyone know who is writing this game?

I had a bit of that fear too, but remembering DD's announcement where no Apollo was in sight and everyone was worrying, only to have Apollo appear makes me think something similar's gonna happen with this. Yamazaki's writing this one (He did Dual Destinies and the Investigations games, and I think co-wrote Apollo Justice with Takumi?)

I have mixed feelings over AA6 too, especially if they choose to bring back *~*spirits*~* . We've had 3 games revolved around spirits already, I worry it'd feel too much like the old games.

However, I find Dual Destinies enjoyable story-wise (especially 5-2 and 5-3). So even though I'm not too keen with the recurring theme, they have shown that they could make cases that I like, so I'll be hoping for the best. :basil:

What do you mean they wanted to make him look cool? He's totally a normal lawyer doing normal lawyer stuff.

The whole situation is a little upsetting to me, mostly from the reaction of the fanbase in general

I mean, I hear a lot of "Fuck Capcom" left and right due to them not localizing DGS (even though I think it was reasonable decision, though I obviously disagree with it as a fan). A lot of people don't seem to even care about AA6 and are writing it off as inferior, even though they don't even know anything about the game at this point

I understand the pain of DGS. I was more excited for it than any other Ace Attorney game (well, besides JFA after I finished the first one) and the pain is fresh, but a lot of people don't seem to care that we're still getting an AA game. On it's own, it'll still provide new mysteries, new characters, new twists and turns, etc.

I don't really wanna get into the whole Takumi vs. Yamazaki thing or a debate about Athena, but I do wanna say one last, cheesy thing. I by no means think these games are literary masterpieces but each one, even my least favorite, holds a place in my heart and I love the joy these games have brought to me. I'm just generally upset by how negative the fanbase is lately

@JesusMonroe

I think despite of the YamaTakumi thing, AA5 had such a positive reaction upon reveal because it was a transition from 2D to 3D and it literally couldn't have look more perfect than it did, plus it was Phoenix coming back after a bit of a depressive outlook on the series after AJ (don't get me wrong, great game, but Phoenix' character in it was so depressing to watch after T&T), so it looked really really good.

With this, I think the problem is partly that Capcom has been milking Ace Attorney a lot in recent years, a lot of even hardcore fans can't get as excited as they used to about it, (just guessing), but mostly it's the setting change, for various reasons. 1, I think is that many whether they want to admit it or not probably really want the series to stay in the Japanifornia setting with the good-ol courtroom. This drastic change of setting for the latest Phoenix Wright canon is a bit alienating.

What I hope is that this becomes the AAI2 of the DD-sequels. Granted, I don't personally like AAI2 so much overall, but I do recognize that it has a lot of fans, and I did recognize that it had a pretty good plot myself (it's just the dialogue and characterization I found to be groan-inducing).

You are right in the sense that nobody should judge a book by its cover. Personally I've seen enough of Yamazaki's work to know that I'll probably never just truly love it like I love almost every Takumi game, but I do still concede your point! On one hand a game is only as good as the people that make them, but if Takumi had his ups and downs with the various games in the series, so could Yamazaki. (AAI and DD being the downs)

What is the current general reception to DD among AA fans? I remember when it came out it was kind of divided, but did it go one way or the other? If it's kind of negatively received maybe that's why people are more focused on DGS. Or it might simply be because lots of people probably followed development of DGS only to find out it's not coming over (I actually made myself not get too involved or get too hyped as soon as I saw Capcom didn't spring to action and let us know it was coming. Considering they announced the localization like on the same day that the game was announced/shown off both for DD and GS6, that will probably be a sign I look out for.

Personally, I'll always prefer a main series game over a spin-off. I'm not actually sure why, either. AA has always been more about the mysteries rather than the characters or backstories for me, so maybe that's why. Pretty much after 4, Phoenix doesn't really need to go through any deep character development, and Apollo and Athena got a lot of theirs solved in GS5, so from now on it would probably be mostly about the stories of the crimes themselves rather than having to make every game revolve around the main characters' tragic past or anything. Or it might just be I like how the games have built on each other throughout the series, or it could be nostalgia since AJ was my first game so that's the time period I'm most interested in.

I'm still extremely disappointed about not getting DGS (and don't really understand the reasoning behind not localizing - unlike AAI2, it's pretty much a main series game with main series gameplay, just in a different (AND ENGLISH-CENTRIC, for the record) setting) but I think in the long run I'd rather miss that than miss any of the main games.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

I think people are more concerned about completely missing out on another game in the series, especially since DGS was made by Takumi.

Also, we hardly know anything about AA6, both gameplay and story wise, while we know a lot more about DGS. And we know DGS has unique gameplay elements already. So really, DGS is more interesting just based on what is known, while AA6 is more like, cool, but there isn't enough out there to make it stand out yet.

I suppose another issue is that DGS is an entirely different setting with entirely new characters, while what we know so far of AA6 looks similar to Kurain stuff already in past games. Again, no huge hook yet.
