I highly doubt we're actually flying around the world in one game. The Water Mirror is a key game mechanic and it's built into the floor of the courtroom. No way in heck is Nick going to leave after one or two cases.

That said, it doesn't mean he had come to this country alone. While that boy could possibly be an assistant with him for this one case, he's a part-time tour guide. Bokto may also be a monk in training, but I doubt he'll have the same kind of channeling power as that oracle girl. And that girl ain't gonna be the assistant either, especially with how she's been introduced.

That leaves the assistant role open for candidates, doesn't it?

My second thought was that they might use this whole magatama madness revival to steer the game towards a Ghost Trick crossover, but that's probably just as likely as my first thought, so never mind that.
It sure was mighty fun to think about all of this, though! :athena:

So, the story will be taking place in a different country... apparently, a place where society is organized according to a hierarchical system which is hugely influenced by spiritual beliefs. I have a feeling we've seen something like this before. Maybe because it was a recurring theme in the first three games, maybe because it was also present in case 5-2. I don't get it, why put a girl with an amulet and "spiritual powers" in it again? This series has had enough of this. A change of location should be followed by a change of themes imo. Just hope this game doesn't turn out to be some kind of introduction to a "Fey Clan 2.0".

I'm kind of pessimistic, but I'll wait for more information to form a definite opinion on it. The new court system could be interesting, at least.

The only one I will agree on there is maybe my words about the stepladder/ladder joke disappearing. Though I stand by it, that joke stopped being funny like the second or third time it appeared. Especially since the joke isn't very funny to begin with and the difference is very easy to tell. In fact, if they are going to bring that joke back, I hope it gets shunted once and for all.

Seriously, would you enjoy a game series that keeps going, but only because it's basically rehashing its already done plot and character ideas, but with a poor, chipping layer of paint on top of it? Bad enough that Ema was originally Maya ~*WITH SCIENCE*~, but at least she was somewhat expanded upon to be not just a Maya clone. We don't need another big family feud or spiritual emphasis. If they honestly cannot bring out a new AA game without copying their old games, they need to throw in the towel.

Thank god I'm not into deep and intricate plots or into good writing.
I just like the mysteries and cases. The characters are pretty interesting, too, but so long as they keep up the same style, I'll probably like it.

Here's the thing: As far as announced materials go, how can you possibly know what the plot is? Was family feuds mentioned anywhere? All that was mentioned was a flawed court system relying on "spirits" of questionable origin, effectively denying people the right to a credible defence, in the eyes of Phoenix, who then proceeds to step up and object. That had nothing to do with the Kurain trilogy in the slightest. In fact, that has all the markings of Phoenix denouncing their spirits as biased, or even fake. Colour me intrigued.

It's Maya and Nick. You know, the pair that stuck together for 3 years (at a confirmed minimum). Shouldn't need to remind you what Phoenix willingly went through trying to protect Maya. They were still even writing letters to each other and using Pearls as the relay in DD (well at least Maya was, as far as we've seen). I think "forced" is pretty much out of the question.

If your adoptive daughter tells you to go meet your closest friend that you haven't seen in 7 years because you haven't seen them in 7 years, you damn well take that excuse to do so.

Hey, no reason for the two of you to argue! It seemed to me like CatMuto was making a side remark about how she'd find it a bit odd, and making predictions about the plot, I don't really think she claims to know with certainty what the game will be about.

Anyway, this is reminding me a lot of DD's announcement in 2012. It was confirmed that it'd be released in the west as soon as the logo was published, if I remember correctly. Now, back then, a PLvsPW localization was only a glimmer in the community's eye, and it'd be another year and a half or so before it would be confirmed, than another half year before its release, after DD's localization. While I know the PLvsPW localization was picked up by Level 5 in the end, this is reminding me a bit of that scenario.

I'm still awaiting an Ace Attorney game where Phoenix finally gets off his lazy bum and gets himself a driver's license. Can't flash your lawyer badge forever when someone asks for your ID, bub.

That reminds me. Since he's in a new country, how will they recognize that he's a defense attorney and not some quack pretending to be the real person?

Given how Bolt Storm worded it in the first post I guess it can't be helped so many people misinterpret it, but "oracle of the spirits" specifically refers to a message (御霊の託宣). It is not the title of a person.

Good question. Especially since no one noticed during the days of Furio Tigre in his own native country in the first place. I'd guess if they went the lazy way, pull what Mario did in the BeanBean Kingdom, but instead of having a signature jump, he has a signature finger point that everyone will recognize.

There aren't defense attorneys in this country anyway, so I doubt it matters if he can prove that he's one or not. On the other hand, now he has an excuse to show everyone his badge, since they probably haven't seen something like that before.

Nah, the lazy way would be to just roll with it and not question his integrity. After all, "there's no way this foreigner will win against the Oracle" seems to be the common theme.

It was a minor mistranslation on Bolt's part regarding the "no defense attorneys", actually. I doubt this country has never seen defense attorneys before. They've simply disappeared out of use because having one seems so moot. So, Phoenix arrives to prove that wrong, and bam! We have a new game.

Honestly, the thing I'm most concerned about is the change of a setting and how this will affect characters. Franziska and Lang seem to be the only characters that'd make sense to return (and maybe Trucy because she went there with Phoenix), and that'd lead to the same problem I had with DD, being that there's next to no returning characters - aside from the staple Phoenix, Trucy, Apollo and Edgeworth, we only got Pearls and Klavier. Even though seeing Franziska and maybe Shi-Long Lang return would be fairly cool.

At least it didn't pull the AJ-Card of replacing Gumshoe with someone who was shoved into the game post-release and then added characters that are super forgettable. I may not LIKE certain characters in the previous AA games, but they were more memorable than "Ms Dahlia Rip Off", "Joey Wheeler YGO TAS" and "That blind kid that actually wasn't blind". At least DD HAD some returning characters. (And personally, I don't count Klavier)
