"No! Stop!" Althea shrieked. She went up to and started hitting the arm, but considering it was made of metal and she was made of wimpy, wimpy flesh, it didn't accomplish much.
Her knuckles are starting to look pretty red though.

Marshall's face turns red as his he flexes his muscles, trying hard to bend the restraints out of the way.

"Yeah, no worries," Marshall coughs in response to Evelyn. "This is the usual type of thing me and her usually get up to."

He snickers scornfully, but he already looks a little haggard.

"Too bad it's gonna be the last time for her! Sometimes you gotta learn to let go, Eve! You gotta realize when your feelings aren't reciprocated! I never even liked you, so give up already! It's over!"

"What the hell is even the point?! You think this proves anything to anybody?! You think anybody is going to care what happens to me?! What's the point of an execution if nobody even cares?! Nobody back home cares! I'm not even really an Ultimate Quarterback! I've more than proved that at this point. People here don't even like me!"

He hears Althea and Nicos, and he bites his tongue, "I mean, most people don't, anyway!"

"I'm sorry, Althea. I'm going to try my best not to, but my best hasn't exactly been good enough," he mumbles.

Taylor continued to pull and pry at the metallic arm, in the (likely futile) hope that they would somehow come loose. "Marshall, I don't give a fuck if I'm caught up in anything! I don't... I don't want anyone else to die!"

At this point, his usual cool-headed, stoic demeanor was completely gone -- it was replaced with pure rage, likely due to Eve. Tears of anger singed his eyes as he gritted his teeth and continued to try and pry the metal arms off of Marshall.

"Jeez guys, I leave the rules right there for all to see and no-one says anything, but as soon as someone actually breaks one you get all up in arms about it. And you call me unfair!" Eve complained. "Time's up, losers."

The metal arm suddenly lurched up into the air, pulling itself free of any Ultimates around it. "Let's do this!"

Spoiler: Hot Potato

The metal arm gripping Marshall dragged him towards the dodgems and dropped him into one of the cars, where restraints immediately sprang up to bind his legs. The accelerator and steering wheel were missing entirely, the car operated remotely. Marshall had no control.

Each other car was manned by a mannequin dressed up to look like an American-football player. Kicking things off, Eve blew a whistle and threw a football into the ride, which one of the mannequins caught. The cars immediately burst into life, driving around the arena with reckless abandon, all safety limiters removed, and began playing a bizarre facsimile of a real game.

For a brief period it didn’t seem so bad. Marshall was getting knocked about quite a bit as the cars smacked into one another, but he was certainly coping. The ball was thrown from car to car, Marshall sometimes retrieving it as well and quickly throwing it elsewhere, not sure what the rules of the ‘game’ were if there even were any.

Then the football exploded, scattering chunks of mannequin across the arena and sending the car it had exploded in hurtling into the wall ahead of it.

Before anyone could fully comprehend what had happened, Eve blew her whistle again and this time threw two footballs into the mix. Now understanding the danger he was in, Marshall grimaced and braced himself, doing his utmost to keep the footballs out of his hands even as the mannequins started to pass to him with greater frequency and force, outright bombarding him.

Before long the arena was a maze of debris, and 5 footballs were being thrown about. No-one could even follow the chaos at this point, and it became clear that it was only going to end one way. Marshall had completely lost his composure and his well-practiced form was getting sloppy. Just then an explosion off to one side sent a car hurtling into the air, and the Ultimates could all see what was coming even before it happened.

Yet, just before it crushed him, Marshall took one last act of rebellion.

With the last of his strength, he threw one of the explosive footballs out of the arena, right at Eve. She was caught off-guard but reacted quickly, throwing a hand up to catch it. A hand which was no longer there, after Marshall had destroyed it with his prank a while back. As the airborne bumper car smashed into the top of Marshall’s, the football he’d thrown crashed into Eve’s face and then exploded as she recoiled.

After the dust settled, the students stared into the arena, confirming their fears. Marshall was dead, crushed under the wreckage of another dodgem. Yet, so it seemed was Eve. All that remained of her robot body was a pile of scrap and two feet left standing where she’d just been. Marshall was dead, but he’d gone out kicking and screaming right until his last.

"I...I..." Evelyn didn't know what to say, running to where Marshall's corpse was and checking for a pulse. Once she discovered the lack of one, she simply burst into tears over his corpse, not saying anything more. It didn't seem that she needed to either.

Taylor watched in horror as the execution happened before everyone's eyes, and as the car landed on Marshall's, he clenched his teeth. "Goddammit..." he mumbled.

He stomped over to Eve's body -- or lack thereof -- and spitefully spit on it, wiping his mouth afterwards. "Good fucking riddance to you, Eve."

There was no visible reaction from the RC car but Kyoya was shaking behind it. He was speechless for a long while, unable to summon the energy to speak.

“S-S-So this is it, huh? We’re still trapped. Any of us can be killed at any moment. Our lives... hanging in the balance one day to the next.”

The camera focused briefly at Marshall’s corpse, a sight it had been avoiding deliberately. “... goodbye.”

Althea fell to her knees. She didn't cry, she probably didn't have any more tears to squeeze out at this point. She just threw up.
With bile and half digested food now all over her clothes and the floor immediately in front of her, she got up on shaky legs and stumbled away from the scene.

A sudden scream of immense frustration caused heads to turn to Gawain's mobile screen thing. On it, looking very cramped and butting heads with the other AI, was Eve.

"Goddammit goddammit goddammit! This was not meant to happen!" she yelled, taking out her anger by smacking Gawain to try and get him off the screen.

"Oh, you're... still alive," Annabella noted, sounding unsurprised despite her prior comment.

"Well of course! I'm an AI, I just sent myself into the network," Eve said grumpily. "This is no trouble at all, the game isn't over."

"That's what she'd like you to believe, at least," Gawain said calmly, pushing Eve away to take centre stage. "But this manoeuvre was not without consequence. Putting herself in here with me has allowed me to take back a portion of control over the network. Not... enough to stop the killing game, unfortunately, but enough to hinder her."

"It's all your fault, you weirdo human-AI hybrid!" Eve shot back, struggling to maintain space on the screen. "Your dumb brain is too weird for me to fight properly!"

"An organic mind is difficult for a synthetic AI to grasp. That was the very reason I was uploaded, as a normal AI would not be able to comprehend the mind of the Ultimates Alabaster wanted to control, and now it's my advantage I can wield over you," Gawain replied, sounding a little smug.

"Look, whatever, this doesn't matter!" Eve said angrily, turning her attention to the students. "I've gotta make up for all that lost time I wasn't here. New location, new motive!

"Whoever kills someone this time, even if you're caught in the trial, you won't die! I'll guarantee your survival, and even let you leave the game! How do you like that?

"Anyway, I'm done for the day. See ya, losers," Eve concluded abruptly, vanishing from Gawain's monitor.

Evelyn had finally finished her sobbing and turned around to view Eve's announcement. Her eyes appeared furious. "That's...just breaking the rules at this point. How desparate can they be at this point?" She walked over to where Althea was and tried to pat her back and make sure she was alright. "Marshall...your sacrifice was not in vain. Thank you for everything you did for us." She whispered solemnly.
