I am going to America soon and I am wondering that if I buy a US nintendo Wii to play US Games. But first I have few questions

1.Can I transfer my saves on an SD card from a UK game to a us game?

2. Will I be able to use a wireless livebox to use the internet features?

3. Apart from a plug converter do I need anything else?

4. Will it limit me in anything that I haven't listed?

Thanks

Dunno if the files will be compatible or not, I know some UK games (DBZ:BT2) have content that is not in the US version, my guess would be no.

It should work just fine.

Not sure what you mean by this <_<

Same with this one.

I do know that with the new update that came out in the US that AR and devices that allow users to play import games no longer work. Not sure if thats what your looking for or now. :keiko:

by question 3 I mean that uk plugs sockets are different to us ones.
Apart from a plug converter so i can plug the wii into the power do i need anything else to get it on my tv?

Do you recommend that i get a us wii or just wait for the games to be released in the uk.
(buying a wii would reduce my savings to about £0)

1) Game saves are incompatible between games from different regions, so you can't use a save from a PAL version of game X with the US version.

2) Getting on the net is fine. I have a US Wii myself. Sometimes this will mean being US centric though when finding people to play online randomly.

3) You'll need a stepdown transformer of rating 100W or better for the US Wii, or get a UK power supply instead. You can't just plug the transformer into the power supply here with a plug adapter, you'd blow it. It is NOT multivoltage.

4) Can't think of anything else offhand. All hardware for the console is regionless and works fine on any machine. You're just limited to playing US games (unless you chip the machine) and downloading from the US shop, though most of the time this will be give you access to releases earlier and they will all be 60Hz originals, not the often poor 50Hz unoptimised stuff here.

There's good reason why I've been importing for over 15 years!

Plus most games will set you back £25-30 as opposed to the £40 here.

So I could just use a UK power lead as a power supply to the US console?
Also what kind of price would a wii be in america. (not online price as i am travelling to america at the end of august)

Thanks for the answers so far!

Yep, since the N64 days Nintendo have always put the transformer part on the outside of the console. Makes it easier to fix/replace instead of taking the whole machine in to look at. So if you can source the grey transformer part here then you can use that. But buying a stepdown transformer would probably be easier and quicker.

The RRP for the Wii in the US is $250 (though sales tax will make that about $270). Hardest part is FINDING one though, the US is going through more stock issues than here.

Well you'd make back some money selling the PAL one though surely? Then again, you'd have to lose the UK power supply. Still, stepdowns are quite cheap in general, if I had a spare one I'd pass it along to you :p

90% of all games will come out in the US before Europe, that's the bare facts of the matter. A few will be straddled about, I believe the US is getting Smash Bros before Xmas and Kart afterwards, whereas Europe is doing it the other way around. Galaxy will be out I think a month or so in the US before Europe.

Not sure when Metroid Prime 3 is out in Europe, but it is out end of this month in the US.

The games cost less buying them online even from abroad (especially with the strong rate) and the VC games are less too and are the original 60Hz incarnations instead.

Personally it's really down to you. I've been importing for 15 years or so because of all the reasons above: release schedules, having the "original" 60Hz experience and more recently (because importing did use to be more expensive) the cost is now much lower due to the internet.

1. The save game files from the UK game will not work with a US game.

2. Yes

3. Check that your TV can output 60hz

4. Um, no.

To be honest if your just going to buy a US console to play the US games its not really worth the money. There are not many (if at all any) US exclusive Wii games that we don't have over here in the UK. If you where going to Japan on the other hand it would be worth buying a NTSC Console.
