Daniel literally slams his fist on the vote button for Benjamin. "GET ME OUT OF HERE."

Brandy was absolutely blown away by such a revelation. "So y'mean... the culprit is jus' out there, hangin' around the caves?! There oughta be a God damn rule 'bout that..."

She pounded her fist on her podium. "Well, screw this! I already know who done did it in my heart, n' my heart's only been wrong... well, quite a number o' times, really... but! I know who I'm votin' for!"

"Stop." A voice came out of nowhere, just outside the trial room. It was one familiar to everyone.

Benjamin limped inside. It was hard to describe with words he looked. "Fucking terrible" would be a good start. He was extremely pale, his missing left foot seeming to be responsible for that. His mouth was grimaced in great pain, and he looked like he was about to fall over at any moment from a terrible illness. He seemed to be holding something about the size of a doll, but it was wrapped in a blanket. Still, he slowly made his way over to his podium and leaned on it for support.

"You guys can't vote. Not until you hear what I have to say."

Brandy winced at the sight. "Jesus Christ... well, out with it, buddy. It's not like there's a lot ridin' on this trial or nothin'. Pitter-patter, let's get at 'er."

Daniel picks up the chair and starts throwing it at the person that suddenly walks in. He stops himself mid-throw, awkwardly faltering in his step and putting the chair down.

He breathes in sharply. "Talk. I ain't got time for this shit maggot. I want my nap and I will have my nap."

Oliver was just about to punch in his vote when Benjamin's voice interrupted him. He slowly turned his head towards Benjamin and scowled, though he was a bit caught off guard by how terrible he looked. "... Make it quick," he coldly said.

"We need to vote for Matt." Benjamin coughed, holding his side in pain. "That recording of mine--I made it before any of us started the challenges. Matt was the one in the torture room, and he killed Klifford. He tried to kill me too, I assume that's why he cut off my foot and then made a clone. But I guess he got a guilty conscience and threw himself in the furnace. I didn't think anyone would believe me, so I've been hiding."

He looked at everyone, almost pleading. "That's a completely believable version of events. I know I'm asking a lot, but you guys need to trust me. Vote for Matt."

"But why would you..." Seb muttered, narrowing his eyes a little in thought as he stared at Benjamin, trying to figure him out.

"How did anyone complete the torture challenge?" he asked, possibly just stalling for time as he tried to figure out the flaw in Benjamin's ludicrous claims.

Benjamin looked at Brandy, "I wanted to spare the sight, but alright." He unwrapped the blanket and displayed the insides. It was a severed foot.

He then turned to Seb. "I assume he put the pads on me while he cut my foot off. That makes the most sense."

Benjamin looked at everyone's dubious expressions and sighed with resignation. He turned to... Belphegor? "Listen... I ask that you extend this trial. At least until we're done talking."

He turned back to everyone else and took a deep breath. "Alright, I suppose I should start from the beginning then.

"I knew I was going to have to kill someone to escape. As soon as the challenge presented itself, I knew that would be my opportunity. As soon as the doors closed, I knew I would have to kill both Klifford and Matt. If I left either of them alive, then my chances of escaping would decrease dramatically. Additionally, I needed to use one of them to trigger the Body Discovery Announcement for my 'corpse'.

"I drew the two magic circles on the bottom floor. I had to cut a hole in the lift for one of them, but I knew I would need it for the cloning trick as well. I then went to the middle floor where Klifford was unconscious. I put the wire around his neck and drew the third circle around the grate. Then I returned to my floor and attached the other end of the wire to the lift. This was so I could have an alibi when the photos were taken at 12:20. I also made sure to flip the camera around so it looked like Klifford's killer came from the lift. I activated the lift right before the camera was set to go off, and it yanked Klifford off of his chair.

"Klifford was pulled to the grate, but instead of me having to kill him from the bottom floor it seems he was knocked out by gas. I teleported him to the bottom of the shaft, and called the elevator down. It crushed him.

"I went up to Matt, bringing my recorder with me and recorded part of our conversation. We then went to the middle floor. He was highly suspicious of Klifford's disappearance and the magic circle in the lift, so I gave him my knife to dissuade his concerns. I was still confident I could get the best of him if I caught him by surprise.

"We went to the lower floor and Klifford was crushed again. Matt broke down, I'm assuming due to a traumatic memory of his friend who was crushed. I saw this as my chance so I killed him here too and threw his body in the furnace.

"I then cut off my own foot and cauterized it, putting the pain pads on myself to complete my challenge and complete the illusion that a torture on a living being had occurred. I removed my brace and completed a clone of myself with the brace attached. Then I tortured my clone, and rested him on the side of the furnace to cover up the smell of burning flesh.

"Finally, I went upstairs and retrieved the mirror, using it to hide in the liquor tank. Thankfully the level of liquor was sufficiently low."

He looked at everyone with his usual dead eyes. "I believe I covered everything. Any questions?"

"Did you... really expect your earlier telling of events to convince us otherwise?" Seb asked in bemusement. "Everything you said just now pretty much covers what we'd uncovered already, nothing new there."

"... Doctor Pratt was a good man," Oliver said wearily. "And despite his alcoholism and aggressiveness, Matt truly seemed to have a good heart deep down. So why murder them? Just to escape, or was there an ulterior motive?"

"Have you ever heard of the trolley problem? It's like that. All I did was pull the lever." His words weren't as matter of fact as usual. He seemed somewhat shaken by his own actions.

"I'm sorry I lied to you all, but I didn't think you'd accept the punishment. I promise everything I say going forward will be the truth." He looked over at Belphegor. "Lives are on the line, and we still have to vote for Matt. That's just the way it is. I think Belphegor was very generous with the punishment this time--it should make the decision much easier.

"Oh, the decision is very easy to me," Oliver growled, coldly glaring at Benjamin. "And even IF we decide to spare you, we'll still need to stay here and kill one another while you get to go, not to mention the fact that the punishment does not affect you. None of that is fair. So you can take your words and shove them up your arse."

Oliver punched in his vote and scornfully turned away from Benjamin. "I have nothing else to say to you. Let's just get this over with."

"Something like that." Benjamin nodded at Seb. "Two years ago, I stopped a terrorist attack organized by the cult. They had been planning to release a virus, but I thought it stopped there. I was wrong.

"I lied about what the cult's message said--the one that played on that device. They're planning a big attack soon. It'll take place in London or New York City. Either way, millions of people will die."

He looked over at Oliver. "This isn't a wanton decision. We're talking about our home. If you decide to vote for me in the end, fine. But this is worth considering. However you might feel about me now, I'm the one best suited to stop the attack. I have a network in MI6. I have informants. And I'm the only one who knows their language."

Hearing Benjamin's explanation made Oliver's expression soften a bit, and he turned to him with a sigh, his arms crossed. "... How can we trust you? How can we know that you aren't lying to save your own skin? If what you're saying is really true, then, well..."

His voice trailed off as he let out another sigh. "I don't want to die young... but..." He shook his head, blinking a few times. "If... If what you say is really true, then I will vote for Matt. I won't put my life above millions of others. But you need to prove that you aren't lying to save yourself. For all we know, like Daniel so eloquently put it, you could easily be 'bullshitting' us."

"Speaking logically, it would make sense to preserve as many lives as possible... But then you might be lying, or there might be another way to stop the attack," Seb said. "As ever I find myself caught between these viewpoints, forced to settle for one.

"But then, this recording, it was left here by Belphegor. What if it's merely a trap? A motive, of sorts, for you to want to kill? If we think Belphegor actually has ties to the cult why would he tell us this sensitive information?"

"If you're looking for another way to stop the attack, you could just ask me," Haley pointedly said. "Knowin' that language isn't exactly a feat our prisoner friend here can attribute solely to himself. After all, I know it myself. Though I didn't want to tell any of you because we can't do much while we're stuck in here. So there wasn't much point in warning all of you that there was an attack incoming."

"How could you possibly know it, unless you're affiliated with them yourself?" Seb asked with some indredulousness. "Benjamin took years to learn it, and had data that an entire secret service had collected with which to learn from."

Benjamin closed his eyes as he listened to Daniel. “You’re a solider, aren’t you? You protect the innocent. You understand that sometimes terrible sacrifices are necessary.”

At the accusations of lying, Benjamin paused for a moment. “You should all know by now that I’m not self-interested. But if you want a better reason... the bell of forgiveness. If there was any person here who would ring that bell, it’d be a prisoner who is interested in making his crimes disappear and gaining freedom. But I’m not interested in freedom. I knew that there might be a day where I’d need my network to save lives, so I abstained from ringing it.”

But really, dude educates himself on all sorts of things that pass through his hands. And he's been doing his advice shtick for years, for all sorts of people from all sorts of walks of life. I'd say he has significantly more connections than Benny does, even if they are simply superficial ones."

"If it were that simple to learn the language I'm surprised MI6 had so much trouble," Seb commented doubtfully. "Even within MI6 no-one was able to manage it except Benjamin, who had the advantage of years of being locked up in jail with nothing else to do."

"That was before I knew the cult was planning another attack. I... knew was my life was over the moment I got arrested. I wanted to die for something, and I was willing to lay my life on the line for innocents as I had done before." His eyes seemed to fill with a soft sadness. "As I'm doing now."

He then looked over at Haley and Brandy. "We can talk all day about things I could've done differently. Yes Haley, it would've been useful to know you knew the language. You should've shared that. Perhaps I should've let you all known from the beginning--maybe in that case Belphegor would've made the punishment much, much worse and gotten your families involved. But the fact of the matter is, what I should've done doesn't matter. It's done. Put your emotions aside and think about what's best to do now."

Benjamin then looked at Haley specifically. "Knowing the language is only part of it. I have a connection with a top secret agency and most importantly I've stopped this cult's attack before. And frankly, I don't believe you to be competent or decisive. I doubt the others would trust you more than me with a mission of this importance." He shook his head. "But their opinion on which of us is more suited doesn't matter. The attack is imminent. Even if you all killed me and decided to have Haley commit a murder and get away with it, it'd waste time. And who knows what Belphegor's punishment will be in that trial? The situation now is far from ideal, but it's the best we can hope for."

"..." Haley gave Ben a serious look. "Well, I'll give you one thing right. I don't tend to be competent or decisive. But what I am good at is being an enemy for somebody else. And if that enemy is some damned cult that nobody likes, then Hell'll freeze over before they win. But you're also right in that right now, it's more a question of what everyone else's opinions are." She then closed her eyes, humming softly for a moment. "And I believed I mentioned that Nail has connections everywhere. But for now, that's neither here nor there. I suppose ultimately it doesn't matter what the rest of us do... I doubt you'd have enough time on that leg of yours to get back anyway. Though if the rest believe you worth saving, then may God Himself speed you on your way."

"But as you said, they're superficial. I doubt he can get just anybody who's given advice to talk... or get those who are unwilling to talk to do so anyway." He added grimly.

Haley tilted her head to the side, as if listening. "Sorry, no can do. He's grumbling angrily about something. Probably about how hard to follow the case was or something. I dunno. But..."

She frowned, tapping her fingers against the podium. "He says... that he agrees with me? That never happens... but it's because of your leg wound and the current situation. As it stands..."

She coughed, and all of a sudden Nail was there, straightening his tie.

"As it stands," he continued smoothly, "you won't get out of the caverns in time for the attack to happen. Unless Belphegor himself transports you out, and provided anyone believes you, then it would be a different story. I would have no issue throwing my vote to the wayside for a cause as grand as yours. However... I cannot agree to wasting so many lives solely on 'maybe'. Thus, until the situation changes in some way to facilitate your escape, J cannot and will not agree to your proposal as it stands."

He coughed, and Haley stumbled a bit. "Damn, dude," she muttered. "You're just as bad as he is."

"I've had the odds stacked even more against me and succeeded." Benjamin smirked despite the situation. "But yes, I will concede that I can't promise a guarantee of stopping the attack. I will be able to get where I need to, but gathering the information is another ordeal entirely. All I can promise is that if I'm not released, the attack will happen."

Then he added, "You said before that you'd be giving your vote to Ivan. Do you still intend to do so, or have you changed your mind?"
