"Sun... Sun! SUN!" Dr. Uwem shouts. Unfortunately for the doctor, it seems like his words won't get to Sun. "I'm sure Mei would know what to do..." Then he remembered which team Mei was on.

"Fuck... Seems like it's up to me to handle this..." Dr. Uwem mumbles to himself, considering his options on how to treat Sun. "If I were Mei, what would I do to help Sun...?"

Deciding that the best course of action was to get Sun's attention, the doctor nudges Sun in the side with his cane.

With a yell, Sun Taikong recoiled from the nudge like he'd just been shot there. He stared at Dr Uwem hollowly; for a moment the figure of the doctor holding up a cane looked like a man standing over him with a gun. Thankfully he managed to refocus, and saw that he wasn't in any danger. "D-doc... Is he... is he okay?" he asked, before coughing and adding, "Uh, that is, everyone's okay? No-one was hurt by the, uh, the bomb?"

"That's good to know." Dr. Uwem said as he carefully examines Sun for any visible injuries. "We don't know what happened to Suyin's group. We think that they might be trapped in the Dragon room... At least, according to what Monk told us what the anteroom looked like after the bomb blew up."

"As for the rest of us, that's exactly what I'm doing. I need to make sure nobody sustained any injuries as a result of the blast from the bomb." The doctor explains before he looks toward the other players, then looks back at Sun.

"Sun, are you hurt anywhere?" He asked.

"Right... right." Sun Taikong still looked dazed, but he appeared to have gotten the gist of what Dr Uwem had said. Realising he'd just been asked something, he said, "Oh, uh, I'm... fine, yes. No injuries, I wasn't near the, the blast. Just have a bad experience with, um, bombs, is all. Just gimme a few minutes."

Amandi walked through the hall, giving all of the players a cursory check. It seems that everyone is mostly fine, aside from mild bruises from falling to the floor. Even X, who was in the room when the bomb went off, is unharmed.

“Why don’t we go back to the server room?” Monk suggests, “Maybe we’ll be able to talk to the others through the vent. You know, at least check up on them.”

“Sounds good to me,” Amethyst replies, “While we’re there, we can work out who should get to escape.”

Everyone decides this is a good course of action. The group returns to the server room, though several of them choose to linger outside the doorway to avoid losing additional CDP.

Those who are able to enter notice that one of the monitors features a faint red light that’s slowly blinking. Amethyst walks over and turns it on, revealing a brief message and a prompt.

Code:

Emergency protocols activated.
Press any key to force shutdown.

She decides not to interact with it at the moment.

Meanwhile, Monk crouches down by the vent and calls out to Suyin and Sunny. Unfortunately, he gets no response. Perhaps the vent closed in some way to prevent his voice from traveling.

“Well, no point in delaying,” Amethyst says, returning to the door. “Let’s get down to it. Who has the Wood Key now?”

Fujisaki jabs his finger toward Juanli.

“Alright, good. Let’s consider our options then,” Amethyst says, “Who do we trust enough to let out of here?”

[Please discuss who you think should escape the facility. You do not have to come to any formal decisions yet. The plot will continue unabated.]

“NO!” Juanli stomped her foot, the Wood key clenched tightly in her trembling hand. “No one...is going...anywhere.” She uttered with cold fury. “Not until we get MY SON out of that room!”

She sneered at Fujisaki “I don’t know why you gave me this key? Maybe expecting I’d forgive you for what you’ve done? You BETRAYED MY SON AND SISTER! My WHOLE LIFE!” She spat stepping further back to be closest to the exit.

She staggered slightly in place “No. If you try and rush me, I’ll disappear and throw the key beyond an afterlife gate or something! You’ll never escape. Unless you start thinking up some plans right now, to free the group in the Dragon room!”

Sun Taikong seemed to be doing better now, though his eyes were still a little unfocused. He barely reacted to Juanli's outburst. "Here's a plan: we send 4 people we trust, maybe including you, outside. You go get help. Get the police, the army, whatever. We can't get through into a sealed, steel-walled room, but they can," he suggested, lacking any of his usual energy.

"As much as I wanted to leave the place, I can't leave X behind..." Dr. Uwem said as he glances over to X, before he mulls over this difficult decision. "How can I be sure X will be fine without me keeping an eye on her? How can I be sure you can take care of X? We only known each other a bit and... I'm not sure if I can entrust you with looking after X to make sure she doesn't do anything reckless..."

It seems like someone will needs to convinces the doctor about this.

"I can stay if it means someone else escapes," he then added. "We might need to... think about who can hold out inside here the best. The good doctor should probably get out of here, so if he won't leave without X, she should go too. It's probably not best to leave her trapped here for too long anyway."

A little colour returned to Sun Taikong's cheeks. "See, this worked out well! Far better than we could have hoped, given the circumstances. If Amethyst, Fujisaki, Snake and I stay behind, that leaves Juanli, Monk, Dr Uwem and X to escape. I imagine you're all quite happy to? If so we'll have come to an agreement without any squabbling!"

"The Monkey has some internal logic for staying. The Rooster seems ambivalent. I wonder what awaits them outside of this place."

"I feel no desire to escape at this moment." He glanced at Taikong. "Perhaps you would be the better alternative. You are a trained soldier, after all. I'm merely a vagrant. Would it not be better for you to go get some help instead?"

Now you should go back to that computer and try and get access to the Dragon door!" she pointed at X "In the meantime, I want you to accompany me out of here, Madam X, whether the Doctor comes or not is up to you." she tucked the Key away in her dress. "The fourth spot is reserved for my son. So I'm not giving up on him just yet."

"In the meantime, I suggest we at least LOOK at the damned vent. Madam Yang said she would collapse it but maybe we can shift that somehow! I certainly don't think she expected us to break through problems using that sledgehammer! Who's to say there's not more that we can still do!" she said, her voice taking on a more pleading tone.

He was definitely surprised by Monk's decision, though was still feeling a bit out of it, so it didn't much show. "Ever the wanderer, going where you please, huh? I can see the logic behind me leaving instead, but I can't in good conscience leave someone else trapped in my place."

"OF COURSE IT WOULD BE WORTH A TRY!" Juanli screeched dialing her fury back up to 80% again. "THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING!" She adjusted her hair and took a deep breath. "Without the bomb...I don't think we're on a timer...so long as we avoid the gates everyone should be alright unless we starve. Let's just...take the time, see if we can at least find a way to talk to the people in there. See if we can't clear the vent from this side, THEN we'll see about who goes to get help." she said doing her best to remain calm.

The Battle of Wood was designed so that being trapped in your room was a very real consequence. I doubt it'll be a simple matter to get anyone out: Cat didn't set all of this up just to slip up and let us cheat the system. I know I like to look on the bright side, but we need to be realistic about this, given the circumstances."

"Heh, nothing specific", Monk chuckled. "Just, the more heads we have stay here, the more progress we'll be able to make, right? No point in me leaving, X has a point there too."

Hearing Juanli shout, he grimaced. Raising his eyebrow, he gave a sigh, "Yeah, I suppose we should check it out, huh? Might as well eliminate all the options here first." He nodded. "Doubt we'll be going anywhere till Sunny gets freed... or at least, we attempt to."

“Alright, let’s start by trying that monitor over there,” Juanli says in a vaguely threatening tone. “Miss Amethyst?”

Amethyst wordlessly approaches the computer, and Taikong steps toward the vent, planning to try to open it.

And then, a shrill voice rolls across the room.

“Oh my god! What the hell?”

“Huh? Am I the only one who hears that?” Monk mumbles.

“Th-That’s my sister!” Juanli shouts.

“Where’s her voice coming from?” Sun Taikong asks, crouching near the vent. “Miss? Can you hear me?”

“Sun, is that you?” Suyin shouts frantically. “Please help! Someone please—”

Suyin’s voice catches in her throat, and a desperate scream pours from her lips. Then the group hears a distant thump, and all grows quiet.

The group stands in uncomfortable silence for a while, trying to process what they’d just heard. Soon, Juanli breaks it:

“Miss Amethyst! Turn that protocol off!”

Amethyst turns around and slams her fist on the keyboard, causing the computer to display a short message: “Ending emergency protocols...”

The group hears a faint whirring noise somewhere in the facility.

“Now quick! Let’s go back to the—”

X dashes off, shoving Juanli aside violently.

“Not again…” Amethyst mumbles.

“Still, she has the right idea,” Monk says, “Let’s move!”

The group pours out of the server room and sprints to the throne room, following X’s lead.

When the group arrives, they find X crouching in the middle of the antechamber.

“How’s it look up there, X?” Amandi shouts.

She turns and stares at the group, as if running calculations in her head.

“There is nothing I can say that will make this any easier,” she concludes. Then she steps out of the way.

On the floor outside the Afterlife Gate, Sunny lies, resting on his right side. He’s not moving.

The metal shutter over the front of the Dragon room is open, revealing a black Afterlife Gate behind it. Its surface shines in dark light, inviting the players to take a peek inside. But does the room contain their wildest hopes or their wildest nightmares?

If Sunny is outside the Dragon Room, then Dr. Uwem feared the worst has happened.

Dr. Uwem rushes over to the boy's side to check for a pulse. It's best to confirm the worst scenario.

A horrified shriek sounded through the room. It came from Monk, who stared at the boy's body in horror. He fell to his knees, a look of hopelessness in his eyes. His cool had completely gone. He looked truly empty at this moment, unable to even form a word.

He fell over to the floor. He didn't seem unconscious due to his body shaking heavily but he was not looking sound either. Seeing the corpse in front of him like that had clearly affected him.

As Amandi crouches next to Sunny, Taikong peers through the Afterlife Gate.

The first thing he notices is Suyin lying face-down by the entrance. He legs are bent at a disturbing angle, fresh blood pooling around them. Her arms are crossed over her head, nearly crossing the threshold.

Farther in, Mao is crumpled on the floor, his head resting in a halo of blood. The bloody sledgehammer rests nearby.

Mei sits with her back against the wall, her hair falling in front of her face. Red strangulation marks are visible on her neck. Her medical bag lies on the floor nearby, empty syringes scattered around it, as if it had been thoroughly searched.

Suyin, Mao, Mei...They were all dead.

But the room had been locked down. There was no way someone could have gotten in and killed them. It was impossible...right?

Juanli stands at the back, completely uninterested in the contents of the Dragon room, her eyes locked on the body of her son. She stands in shock, her eyes flicking rapidly from Sunny and Dr Uwem. Her eyes wet with tears, she covered a sob with her hands but she shook with palpable terror.

"Mei! Meeeei!" Sun Taikong screamed fruitlessly, fighting his own instinct to run in and check on her, Afterlife Gate be damned. "Why? What the fuck happened here?" Unable to look for any longer, he turned and pressed against the wall, arm coming precariously close to the Gate as he buried his head in it. Anything else he had to say was lost in his roars of grief.

After finding no pulse on Sunny, Dr. Uwem stands up before he glances to see what was beyond the Afterlife Gate, taking notes of the corpses.

Then he turns to Juanli, a look of grimace on his face.

"It's as I feared... Your son may have gone past the Afterlife Gate, causing his bracelet to injects the oxycodone into his body..." He glances over to the door to the Dragon room.

"Just what happened in there...?" The doctor mumbles to himself.

“He’s dead…” Amandi confirms, “I’m noticing symptoms consistent with an overdose of oxycodone, which…considering the circumstances…”

There's an otherworldly wail from behind the group as Juanli spots the unmoving corpse of her son. Throwing her handbag aside, Juanli lunges at Fujisaki from behind, still staring dumbstruck at the scene.

There's a flash of steel followed by a guttural, gurgling noise as Juanli's scissors plunge into Fujisaki's neck.

"YOOOOoooooOOOOOoOOOOOOOUU DID THIIIIS!" she screams in his ear as she tears the scissors across his throat with unprecedented strength. Feeling Fujisaki go limp in her arms she lets the body fall onto the floor.

With another incoherent wail, the sobbing form of Juanli pounces on Fujisaki and brings the scissors down again, piercing his sunglasses and the soft contents beneath with a wet pulping sound. She thrusts violently into Fujisaki a while, a mix of fury and sorrow, her hair cast unceremoniously over her face with the ornaments and decorations that held it in place scattered around her and Fujisaki on the floor. Suddenly, Juanli looks up, her eyes locking on the still form of Sunny.

She dashes towards Sunny shoving anyone relevant out of the way as she scoops her baby up into her arms before dashing towards the exit and crossing the threshold with the Wood Key to freedom.

And the truth is lost to eternity…

Fujisaki lies dead on the floor. Juanli crouches over him, stabbing the scissors into his body over and over again in a fit of rage. She turns her attention once more to Sunny, when…

“M-Mama?”

Sunny’s eyes open. He slowly pushes himself off of the floor, as if awakening from a deep slumber. He stares wide-eyed at his mother, whom he just watched violently kill a man.

Uh-oh!
