I think that is part of it, Alkia. He'd certainly feel in the shadow of Edgey, especially since he left abruptly after the events of DL6. Not to mention the fact that thats exactly how he feels at the beginning of 3-5, small and worthless.
Still, even in AA he wasn't this mad. This is a different sort of behavior from him, because throughout his other appearences and even in the earlier parts of 3-5, he's got a kind dispositon underneath. He may be scatterbrained and silly, but he stands by his friends. But at this moment he seems to have lost it. He really must miss Elise tremendously.

I don't think so, they always say that "I've known you since we were both 23/25 years old", even Phoenix himself.

Same with Edgeworth but he only knew them for one year in school before he was adopted by Von Karma after his father was killed. There's also three pictures in case 1-4 with them in grade school.

But yes, there's certainly an undercurrent of anger between the two. I mean, Edgey refuses to acknowlege their school days early on in the case. You can excuse Edgeys conduct slightly by saying that he's concentrating on the case, but that can't be the whole story. I guess he may be angry because Larry hasn't grown up.
But certainly Larry is shook up by Elise's death. We can see from his praise for her right at the start of the case that he liked her a lot. Not that many people ever had time for him. I guess theres lots of reasons why both Edgey and Larry are antagonistic to each other. (Gumshoe doesn't really help either, annoying Edgey and scaring Larry XD)
