In the 4th Case, Farewell My Turnabout, when Franziska got the 3 important evidence...
There's a missing button in De Killer's Gatewater Hotel uniform... and Franziska said an interesting clue will appear when they found the missing button...

So where is this missing button???

You find the button during the case. It doesn't seem to serve any purpose besides linking de Killer to the Bellboy, though that doesn't really matter, anyway.

...Huh? I never found that button, and I've replayed Case 4 quite a few times. o.o; Maybe you're mixing it up with the button from the Jammin' Ninja's costume?

Anyways, I'm pretty sure that uniform's button's just a red herring, and doesn't actually exist as a piece of evidence you can find, to make the last puzzle in that case less obvious, just like the pistol.

It does exist. I don't remember if it goes into the Court Record or not, but you do find a button from the Gatewater hotel during the case. There's a picture of it in the evidence for the case here.

...I thought that was the picture that showed up when Franziska was talking about the missing button, not something you found while investigating. o.o; In fact, I'm pretty sure about that.

Sorry for the rather... low quality, had to use a fairly bad camera because the other one broke >_>;

That's the button you meant, isn't it? Because I never saw that one outside of Franziska's explaination...

Wait, now I think we're on two different subjects. I think I may have confused that button for the bloody button belonging to Corrida's costume.

Regardless, I'm still fairly sure there was no need for the button, anyway. It's probably still in de Killer's possession, or Gumshoe merely forgot it at the crime scene while rushing over in his car. Sorry for the confusion.

I think that was just to make you think it was important to confuse you when you choose what to present and who to. It just kinda made it seem more significant than a tape of which the content is unknown.

I don't think it was a bluff.

BUT...

As the Judge said, the evidence was pointless. At that point, they didn't need to establish who KILLED Juan. De Killer admitted it, and the proof only established that further. The quesiton at that point was who HIRED De Killer, and the missing button wouldn't have helped.

It was a red herring, yes, but by the game and the writers, not Franziska. There are more than enough reasons to hate on Friska anyways. Sal

Probably thrown in there so that the stupid players who couldn't figure it out already would know that

Here's my theory.
Spoiler: Crackpot Theory
de Killer, after commiting the crime and getting the money, went off to trash the bellboy suit. He rushed out, and one of the buttons fell on the ground. For a while, it was lost. When Gumshoe/Fransizka found it, the button was gone.
OR
The button is actually Juan Corrida's button. de Killer must have purposely changed one of the buttons to mimic Jammin' Ninja's button No. 2. He swapped them around as another sign that the deed is done. The actual button must be with de Killer.

So do the players need to find this button or is it just a pointless task? If so would you mind explaining how?

Unless someone were to search the ROM for a court record reference, it's useless.

Of course, we don't know that for sure. I still say we search the ROM for any traces of it on the CR.

Seriously, man, you can't find the button in the game. Otherwise someone would've found out how by now, in the five-or-so years this game has been out.

There are two button, one of Juan Corrida, which has some blood on it, and the one of the bellboy suit worn by de Killer. That's it. You get neitehr of them in investigation as far as I know :/

My theory is that Shoe stole it.... simple as that Edgeworth

No, I guess the button was just a trick. When squeezing info from the evidences Franzi brought, we've maybe thought that the costume was only suspicious because one button was missing.
So without thinking hard enough, someone would choose the bellboy costume instead of the tape, falling direct into a trap.

ah... that's it..

maybe the interesting clue Franziska was talking about was...
Spoiler: bellboy
that de killer is the bellboy.

coz if we don't choose "ask for more details" when franziska was showing the evidences, nick would think that they were irrelevant... i think...

I think Franziska says it's important because she's not on the same wavelength as the rest.

What I mean by that is, I bet Franziska still thinks everyone is trying to figure out who de Killer is, when they're trying to figure out
Spoiler:
how they can prove the client is Matt.

That's probably why she thought the Bellboy's uniform is so important.

I think that this whole button this is just a dead end. However, something that I have wanted to know since playing the fourth case is what is this other to win that Mia was talking about? She mentions two ways: one, make Engarde want a guilty verdict, or two, make de Killer give up Engarde as his client. I've only ever worked out how to do the latter. Is there really only one way, or am I missing some PW scripting? *sob*

The second one can't be true, the blood-smeared button's thread matched up with the thread on Juan Corrida's costume.
It's probably the first one and just a red herring, since the gun very obviously had nothing to do with the case so they tried to put in another clue that might sound a bit more relevant.

Spoiler: Buttons
Corrida's button was planted in Matt's Hakama after Adrian stabbed Corrida's body with the dinner knife.
Franziska merely highlighted that a button was missing, chances are it's still with De Killer or somewhere in the Gatewater Hotel.

Spoiler: Gun
I believe the gun is the one that Franziska was shot with, however, I believe it has very little to do with Matt's guilt.

Brandon Strong
Spoiler: Good Ending
You do both in one fell swoop, if you present the video Franziska brings in to De Killer, Phoenix will bluff and say that the video is a recording of the murder, quoting Matt when he told Phoenix he trusted no one, least of all hitmen. De Killer goes in a rage and says he has a new target. Matt, fearing for his life, admits his guilt in order to remain in police custody whether you plea guilty or not.

It has nothing to do with anything. A red herring.

Franny was not at the trial, so she could not have already known that de Killer = Bellboy, and the uniform would prove it. I don't see what she saw in the button though.
