I'm working on the overture/1-1, Gerkuman I believe has written down what he's taking care of a few pages back.. If anyone else is working on a specific case I don't know. :< I'm going to ask to collect everything by the end of the week, deadline postponed by a few days.

Dude, go for it. Right now the cases taken are...oh, God, all of them. I'll split 1-3 with you: do you wanna do the beginning, and I can do the end?

Give it your best shot anyhow. We'll try and sort out your pitch from what you give us. :godot:

This has been kind of a big concern of mine since we concluded that we were making the original a digital production...

We need to find some animators/artists for the flash.

I would advise against seeking animators until we have something to show them. It's a daunting task, and we need to prove we're serious about this before we ask people to undertake it.

With regards to the script, I think it might work for Phoenix to be slightly... meta, for lack of a better term. Not too much, but he could say something like "Where do all these people keep coming from?!" when the chorus appears on stage for the third or fourth time. It seems like it fits in with the spirit of his asides in the games.

And who's playing with the Lotta Hart song? That one's sparking my creativity. I think it would be funny to have a little intro full of country cliches (jail, break-ups, pickup trucks, deadbeat relatives) but jumbled around and silly. And it would be extremely melodramatic, with multiple asides by Phoenix and Maya, before launching into the main song.

ETA: Sorry I haven't sent a voice clip yet. My computer crashed hardcore not long ago, and I accidentally synced my iPod to it, basically wiping it clean. In the meantime, I'll try to record some samples of my speaking voice. I don't currently have a USB cable for my microphone, so I'll have to use the internal mic. I'll get a cable for the actual recording phase, though.

Yes, the Lotta number has a 'lotta' potential; and we need to use that as we don't have many chances to do that sort of song in a musical like this. I've had several ideas for the choreography, but we need to find a real choreographer pretty soon.

And the melodramatic opening of the song, would work well with the songs introduction stanza. Lotta singing 'not much to do at the age of twenty-three' with jails and police chases would be extremely ironic

Finally got an example of my singing voice sent! It was a casual recording from a while ago (and far from perfect), but I thought it'd be clearer than recording something with my Mac's internal microphone.

And I want to play around with some character voices before I send a speaking clip, but I'll send it soon.

I'm blown away by these samples, Miss Prince. You have depth, power and strong control over your voice. You could sing any role you really wanted in this, I believe. I'll write you all the ballads and uptempo rock songs you want. It would be a shame not to have you - and your brother, who is crazy good as well! - starring as some of the main characters.

I *had* to say a bit more. Check again. I'd write for your voice outside this project anytime, too.

Could everybody that's writing give me an update on their work? We'll gather by the end of the week, but I just want to know how it's coming along. :)

Overture and 1-1 will be done, from my side.

Well, thats two main character slots sorted. :) Congratulations! On an aside, I didn't know that acronym so I got it wrong ^-^;;

As for the progress report, since I chose 1-4 I can't do it all. But I've done Investigation 1 and I'll get Court 1 done as well. Along with my first draft of 'I Gotta Lotta Life' and other ideas.

that the song from Pippin? That's awesome, we just did that show in the community theatre nearby (albeit quite edited). That's a fun song to do!

Yep, the one from Pippin. It's a really pretty song; my father, brother and I sing it together, each taking a verse with harmony on the chorus.

Chihiro, I'm very honored to see more professionals in the thread, and you are very welcome to join for both singing and mastering, as long as this project does not collide with your schedule. I trust your experience, but I would greatly appreciate a clip of sample work and/or a voice clip, depending on what you prefer. Currently we're in the writing phase and it will take - as I said above - anything from weeks to a few months to arrive at the actual production. Nonetheless, I will add you to a new group for now: Mastering & Sound Design, if that's accurate enough.

Ah I only do Karaoke for fun:) It's so fun to surprise people with a very R&B voice when they least expect it from you. I sent you a sample. I don't really feel comfortable giving much information about it since it feels kinda rude giving a song away without asking permission from the artists. For a sample, it's okay I think. If you don't like I'm sorry. I thought it was a song that was cool though not broadway type...

If you guys ever get to the post production stage it's *very very* important to remember that sound is mostly only as good as it came out orginally. So the better stuff that comes to us, the better stuff possible. If you guys are gonna sing and send samples, be sure to sing in a good room for it and mouth close to the mic. We can eliminate most minor background noises and interuptions. So if you had a good run, but had to stop for whatever reason. Keep it around as it might be useable.

Lets see... all I need is a way to send one of the people in charge my voice sample... and a way to make a voice sample (otherwise I would've made 20 Phoenix Wrong's by now. lol).

I believe I have a program where I can formulate a sample, maybe I'll use that, or Messenger with one of the event directors (yes, that's their names now).

@Wrestlemania: I'm in charge of the auditions, so feel free to send it to me. If you need help, let me know as well. Contact info and more can be found in the OP. I would prefer a recording over VoIP so I can hear the quality of your microphone, too.

@Chihiro: The piece you sent is very professional. It's an honour to have you on the team.
Also, if I could, I'd frame your last paragraph in gold and diamonds. Thankfully the clips I have so far all are of good to very good quality. Wooooooooooo.

today i managed to have time to script/edit the scenes which Grossberg feature, in the first case. Made them a bit shorter and tried to keep them interesting/keep important details. Managed to get up to the part where he's about to talk of his connection with Redd (scripted the lovers option cose its the best). Not sure if the explanation should be a song or not, mainly becuase I'm not much of a lyrical master. any ideas?

ooh plus what are we going to for when Phoenix thinks inside his head? make them spoken lines on stage or taped monologue to play with echoness.

Unfortunately, there is still nothing from me. It's school and the end of NaNo together, it's keeping me extremely busy. >(

However, on Saturday, I'll basically be free for a good portion of the day, so I'll sit down and put down at least the first investigation scenes. I've always done story writing rather than script writing; it might be a little awkward.

I think taped would be the best way to go. However, Phoenix would be expressing the tone of the recordings through his face- disgust would show as his nose wrinkling, etc.

Er, can I make a suggestion for the title of an Uplifting Ending Ballad?
"You Can Do This, Wright."
With a play on words with Wright and Right... I was kinda making up lyrics while I was in the shower today.

"You can do this, Wright
We know that you can do it
Your victory's in sight
So reach out, grab it for your own!

The verdict is yours for the finding
And you've come so far on your own
But we'll just keep reminding
You that you are not alone"

Cue a solo for Maya:

"You can do this, Wright
You know I'm here beside you
I know it's hard to fight
But stand tall, I know that you can win!"

Etc, etc... Any good?

I dunno, that seems a little awkward to me, especially since most of them are short. The longer, expository pieces might work as recordings, but a recording kind of disrupts the flow, and it might be distracting for short thoughts. Plus, in a RL situation, that's an awful lot of little cues and such to remember, and there's no ability to ad lib if the situation calls for it.

It might work to have them as asides, either speaking to himself or to Maya depending on the situation. IIRC, many of his internal monologues occur at the end of a dialogue chain, so it would be possible to have the other character move away, busy him/herself with something, or anything else to indicate that the character isn't really listening anymore, and then let Phoenix speak his mind. Or in other cases he might say it out loud, and the other character would say "What was that?" and Phoenix would get flustered and pretend he hadn't said anything.

Just my opinion. Feel free to dispute.
