There are a handful of classic gaming titles out there with a seemingly endless cast of characters, but how many of them continue to influence their respective universes....
....after they're dead.
No, I don't mean dead as in "hasn't been released since 1985" dead.
I'm talking about characters that have been killed off in the story....and never came back.
We know Aerith/Aeris (FF7) and, probably Dahlia (PW3) have played major roles in their stories long after their deaths.
Personally, I feel that Dr. Wily (Megaman) and Geese Howard (SNK VS) also fall into this catagory.
For the former, just look back at original MM-MMZero. Not only does his own creation survive longer than Dr. Light's (original X's body was destroyed in Z2; Zero's original body was destroyed in Z3), but his work continues to influence much of the current universe (ZX). Some people are begining to believe he's pulling the strings....after over 500 years?!
As for the latter, consider this: almost every SNK fighting game points back to Geese. He's been the central figure in THREE separate titles (AoF, FF, and KoF, naturally) as well as the founder of the KoF tournament. Even after his death, he shadow continues to linger over Southtown, both figuratively and literally.
The incident concerning the Jin scrolls only adds to the mystery surrounding his final leap from Geese Tower in FF3.
I could go on about this, but I'm sure you know where I'm coming from on this.
Can anyone else think of any dead characters that still play a crucial role in their respective series?
