I'm still a bit mystified by the trick locks in 3-5. How did Dahlia get the locks, and how did Iris know about them and all the combinations in the first place?

Yeah, the trick locks were sort of confusing. But Iris knew about them since she works/lives at Hazakura temple, and has probably assisted people who've taken the "Special Course" before. She'd have to know all the different combonations in order to use them for those previous times.

.......

don't make me post here!

The "Trick Lock: Physical or Mystical" topic was debated by me and Gerkuman for a looong while. I argue that it's created by those with spiritual power, mystically. He argues that they are physical, and possibly hidden somewhere... so for the love of god and all that is holy.... Do...... NOT........ MAKE....... ME...... POST!!!!!!!!!!

That completely fails as an argument, as Iris and Dahlia are repeatedly stated as having almost no spiritual energy. They couldn't have summoned the locks spiritually, it's impossible for them.

The trick locks are physical, solid objects. Just because it's at a channeling dojo doesn't mean everything has to be spiritual. :/

Personally, I thought they might have been hidden in the Sacred Cavern itself.

Iris never made any locks, Seraphie. Dahlia, however, is NEVER stated as having it.

She simply says she doesn't have MUCH spiritual powers, while Iris says she has NONE.

Errm... Then don't...? The locks seem to be physical, because everyone saw them when they went there. Even people without connections to spiritual power.

It doesn't matter who SAW them, it matters who CREATED them!

Mia writes a note telling Maya to lock the entrance of the temple, but we also don't know how Mia would've known there were locks IN the Cavern.

Lol. This is going to be a heated, off-topic/on-topic debate that will eventually get locked. If someone could create a magical lock out of thin air, why would there only be hundreds of ways to possibly open it? There should be an infinite amount of ways to possibly open a lock that one created simply by thinking of it.

And if it was a regular lock, there should only be ONE way!

And there's hundreds of COMBINATIONS, not ways to open it.

You said the locks were created by "those with spiritual power."

Maya couldn't have summoned these things or whatever you're going on about; she stated she had never heard of Hazakura Temple before, and (as far as we know) they're the only ones that offer the Special Course, and have the locks for it. Mia was the one who told her to lock herself in the SC, even though she had little idea of what was happening outside of what Maya wrote to her. Either Mia or Maya probably found the lock so that Maya could keep herself in the SC.

Admittedly, if your theory is correct, Maya could have made it; she has more spiritual power than Pearl. However, as I said, she had no idea of anything about Hazakura prior to reading that magazine, and couldn't have known about the locks. Hell, Bikini and Dahlia left her before she even entered the SC, and we know nothing of Bikini's spiritual energy.

Yeah, "combinations" is what I meant. "Ways to possibly open it" is what I said. Considering it's a TRICK lock, not a regular lock, there can be hundreds of combinations. But if it was incarnated into real life by magic, then it would be physically impossible to open it, unless you could read minds.

Iris says HERSELF that she has no spiritual power, in those EXACT words.

Maya was told by Mia to lock the cavern, so... yeah. She locked it. Also, none of us knows if Maya was taught about the locks as a child, or not. She doesn't know what Psyche-Locks LOOK like either.

Finally, Mia said she didn't have any time to do anything other than write instructions to Maya.

Also, it's to read minds... or if you have spiritual power as well. Franziska unlocks them, but Bikini has to help her. I assume it's because Bikini is really the one who unlocks them.

The trick locks are modeled after the Psyche-Locks. If Maya had never even heard of Psyche-Locks, how could she have known of the trick locks, which were never used in Kurain Village?

She forms them using her spiritual powers!!!

I had to delete this post 4 times, because each time was nothing but angry capitals and yelling.

Also, who are we to say that the Trick Locks are modeled after the Psyche ones..... or the other one around?

*reads the Iris post by Seraphie*

THANK..... YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I have not once argued Iris' abilities, because she has none, and she never even formed one lock in the game.

Their mother was the Master, Maya lived in Kurain for a loooong time before moving to the city, Mia also lived there for a long time, they could've easily learned about those locks from village elders, Kurain scrolls, etc.

Indeed. Dahlia also states that she has very little spiritual powers, so how could she create these locks willy-nilly?

Maya states that she doesn't know what a psyche-lock is in case 3-2.

Dahlia HAS powers still, she could make the locks, since we have no clue how much power it takes to make the locks.

Maya NEVER states that she doesn't know what a Trick lock is!

Also, if you want to speak of the locks, fine. But be warned: You must ALSO explain the chains!

Irrelevant.

Think: Why did they call Iris in to try to unlock it anyway? They thought she had set it. It's stated that it was Iris's job that night to lock the acolyte into the Sacred Cavern, however if they were spiritual that would have been impossible... because Iris has NO spiritual power (by your own admission, I might add). Why would she be asked to do something that she couldn't possibly do? The only conclusion is that they are physical.

Again, I must go back to my previous point. If these locks were created by the mind of a medium, don't you think that there would be more that simply hundreds of combinations? The human imagination is vast; I'm sure that someone could think of a combination that nobody else ever has thought of. Since the locks are magical, one could think of an extremely impossible mechanism to be used, thus rendering it impossible to open.

I am of the opinion that the trick locks are physical objects imbued with/open to spiritual power, rather like the magatama.

Obviously there is SOMETHING spiritual or mystical about them, consider the following: The chains are very heavy and WRAPPED AROUND gate. And our darling Dollie managed to put up 5 of them in... what... fifteen minutes? It doesn't even make sense how the chains got there in the first place, where they were hidden, how they were set so quickly, where Dahlia managed to learn how to set and use them, etc.

There's so much unexplained that Occams Razor demands that they be spiritual in nature.

Edit: LOL XD Oops...

Also, it's weird why they couldn't just cut the chains off with a saw or a blowtorch. Neither of those tools would have caused any agitation to the Sacred Cavern. It would have been perfectly safe. :yuusaku:

No offense, Gerk-err-Gyakuten (dammit, name is martially similar!), Bikini and Franziska had up unlock each and every single lock, and there was no saw or blowtorch there, not to mention that neither were found, or spoken of, in this case.

Next point is about your topic: We have no idea how they are made, or what they are made of. We only know that those with spiritual powers are able to break them. Also, Dahlia/Iris says that there are hundreds of ways to SET them, not to change the mechanics of the lock! For all we know (which we don't), the Kurain teachings specify the type of lock used, and the ways to set them. It's said that there are "hundreds of ways" to set the lock... , but I won't ignore this point: DAHLIA says that. For all we know, there could be 1000000 ways, or 27 ways, we'll never know.

>_> Bikini wasn't there to take the locks off, only "Iris" and Franziska. Bikini was in the main Temple. Don't you remember? You have to go all the way to the main temple to find about about Iris's past because Edgeworth says he can't give you that info.

Also, I know that there were no tools at Hazakura Temple, but you have to remember the invisible prescence who was also at the scene: The police. I'm sure a police force would have an ample supply of tools that can be used to cut a chain.

Spoiler: WHOLE CASE WALKTHROUGH BASICALLY
No, don't you remember? Dahlia and Iris switched places during the earthquake. Then Dahlia shoved Iris into the cavern, and added locks to the door. Then everyone came and thought it was Iris, then Franziska stays there, and you get to question "Iris" a little bit. Once you see she's got a psyche lock, you go talk to Edgey in the garden, then Bikini at the main temple. Then you go back to the inner temple and break "Iris's" psyche lock and then it's the trial the checkpoint

Edit: OH THAT'S WHAT YOU MEANT! I thought you meant Bikini was unlocking them when you weren't in the trial. :knock-knock:

I'll be honest, judging from where the locks go up to, they probably thought that they were connected to the foundation or something.

However, "why couldn't they..." isn't really an argument, as much as it's a "This would've been better". We need a "This happened because...".

I think Franny would have noticed if Dahlia said it would take a day to remove all the locks and there wasn't any progress half a day later. She probably removed at least a couple.

Not that that makes any sort of difference in anything at all, but you know.

On a side note, does Bikini herself actually have any spiritual power?
