Jeeze, Actorman. Your Edgeworth voice was awsome. o___o Not to say I have much bearing, but you have my vote for being Miles.

Actorman - For some reason None of your Sound Clips loaded for me, Except for Phoenix 1, which loaded up until RIGHT BEFORE you started Acting, but I'm sure you're Great! =D

Shankin' - Wow, your voice is high even for a Tenor, Considering those songs were Supposedly the lowest you can go, After hearing you I think my Voice is low =3, I'd say you're some kind of Male Alto, but you did do very well =D, Also for some reason Whenever you sang in those songs, Your Voice ONLY Came out my Left Speaker, it made you sound kinda, Off.

Also It turns out you DO Need a Putfile Account to download files from Putfile =D

So my file finding troubles is over, so now I just need to be Patient, if it wasn't winter this would probably Go faster =P.

XD I was replaying case 1-1 and I just noticed that Frank Sahwit Is Pronounced "Frank Saw it", I was always pronouncing it "Frank Saw Hwit", Now I get the Pun.

XD I imagine he would have like, a Very high Pompus Woman like voice when he's Testifying, and then when he breaks down he would have a very gruffly Frustrated Voice.

=P We seem to be writing things in Reverse Order, since most of the stuff so far has been 1-4, and now we're doing a lot of 1-3, So I thought I'd mention 1-1 a bit.
Kay had two daddies. Trucy had THREE daddies. Clearly Trucy is the winner.

Dang, I'm away for one weekend, and the topic explodes.

Anyways, I'll get my audition things up, once I can get audacity to work correctly for longer then 3 and a half minutes, and my voice doesn't sound like crap on helium.

Also, I have an idea for people wanting to record speaking parts in sections with other characters. How bout using text-to-speech for the extra lines.

Me: Objection! This evidence shows the contradiction in that testimony.
Text to speak: And what would that be?
Me: It's the... um.... it doesn't does it?
Text to speak: Unfortunatly I will have to penalize you

Of course, it's bound to have some funny results every so often (specially if you get Sal Manella in the mix), but I think it could work.

:unlock: Huzzah! Here is "Make it Right" with piano parts. Pennfalath: I ended up changing it a lot from the original one. >_< I really hope you're OK with that?
Lyrics:
Spoiler:
Make it Right (The only chords are E, B, A… .. very repetitive, I know)

(Phoenix tells Maya Grossberg refused to represent her)

(music)

Maya
I never thought it would ever come to this
In times of trouble, I could always count on my sis
She’d always be there for me, coming to my aid
But now she’s gone, and I…am afraid
I am feeling so alone
My future doesn’t look so bright
And I need someone to help me, someone to make it right

Maya (Spoken)
I've been abandoned, then.
Just a little longer now before the state-appointed lawyer comes, I guess...

Phoenix (Spoken)
I've made up my mind!
I'm going to defend you whether you want me to or not!

Maya (Spoken)
Why?

-Phoenix (Spoken)
Why? Well...

(What can I say? The facts all point to you
You feel it closing in, you don’t know what to do
The people that you loved, they cannot help you now
You need a helping hand, and I believe I know how
I know that feeling all alone
Can make you want to cry
I want to represent you, I want to make it right

Maya (spoken)
That's so kind of you...
*sniff*...
You know, my sis mentioned you once, before she…

Mia
Today was his first day in court
What an awesome trial, although it was kinda short
He’s a real genius, it was real intense
The only thing he’s lacking, is experience
He’ll strike fear into the hearts of evil
Cause he is just that type
Give him three more years, then he will make it right

Phoenix (spoken)
Three years, huh?

Maya (spoken)
I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to trouble you...

Phoenix (spoken)
No, it's okay. It's true, I guess.
But... at the same time, I can't just sit and watch!

Maya (Spoken)
Thanks, Nick. I can call you Nick, right? Mia said that’s what your friend Larry calls you.

Phoenix (Spoken)
(Nick?)

Maya (Spoken)
What are you gonna do now?

Phoenix
So I’ll make sure to keep you safe in there
Everything will be OK, so don’t you despair
Maya
I’ve got a new friend, coming to my aid
I trust you, Nick, I’m no longer afraid
Mia
Phoenix can do it, He’ll bring the truth to light

(Mia, Maya, Phoenix simultaneously)
Trust him, he’ll make it right
So nick, please make it right
I promise, I’ll make it right

Yes, I know that I don't sound like Phoenix and that I don't hit the high notes very well... Again, if any 'real' piano players would like to take a shot or make it more interesting (I make it pretty repetetive) please feel free to change whatever. ^_^;;

Any comments?

Edit: Somehow I screwed up so that all the parts are on every link.. I need to fix that really quick ^_^;;

ff3girl: Wohoo! Awesome, just awesome.

No, I certainly don't mind you changing things (I said that multiple times, I believe); especially when you definitely make it better. I really like hearing the 3 voices together and ending on different notes, Just what I had in mind. Small point of criticism: maybe a littl e instrumental intro? Like the melody of the last lines or something, but instrumental. Or something completely different.
If I write more songs (and/or revise the ones I have already written), I'll try to get a bit more variation in there. I realalise that now it's mostly 4 times the same melody.

Oh, and about the Objection debate, no I don't think we should have Phoenix re-examine every line, but we should make a reference to it. For example:

Phoenix can not find the contradiction (in a testimony where you have to press everything or just have to get to the end - some of them are like that)

Judge: Well, mr Wright? You haven't raised a single objection
Prosecutor: That's because there is nothing to object to, now, let's move on, shall we?

(quietly)
Maya: Nick, you can't let this happen, there must be something...

Phoenix: Objection! eh...I'd like to re-examine every single sentence the witness said separately, your Honour
Prosecutor: *Shakes head, smirking*
Judge: Denied, mr Wright, this is a court of Law and you are a Lawyer, please act like one.

Well... ff3girl asked for them, and as weird as I felt rerecording them, I did it for "The Samurai Always Wins"

I read some of the notes TriforceBun gave and tried to incorporate them the best I could.

I apologize in advance, sometimes I'm off the accompaniment a bit (I sang too loud.) so, sorry in advance to TriforceBun for being a bad follower. I was also pretty poor rhythmically, but I wanted to share it because I was asked.

EDIT: Sorry! Rerecording, I wasn't pleased with how I did previously, and this time I don't want to rush the finished product. Later tonight? :edgy:

Btw, I just realised, for writing more songs, I'm going to need some indication which kind of songs (eg, what part of the story or what genre). So order or request away!

See, for the "song" for my lyrics, it's actually supposed to cut into a second song DURING the lines. And I'm pretty sure everyone can guess where the next song starts.

You're right... it is kind of strange that I dont have an intro in there, now that I think about it..! But I'm glad that you approve! Thanks! I really like writing songs together with you, Pennfalath. If another 'real' pianist doesn't start putting up these parts soon, I'll try to re-record it.:keiko:

You know, I think that it has so far been up to the discretion of the song-writers for what song will be written. I would love to hear one for April May..! :will:

Actorman: I ABSOLUTELY love your Phoenix voice. It sounds like you sang the song before you completely learned it, though! I can hear you following the piano so much! XD You should try to learn the part more and record it again--I want to hear you sounding completely confident.

One small criticism--(sorry!) At the end, when you sing Phoenix's part up an octave... ... ^_^;;; Maybe it's best if you don't go up. That sounds like it hurts you! And besides, Cody is already singing a high part. I think you're OK being the one in the middle range there.

Okay, Actorman, I've finally gotten to listen to your clips!

Your singing voice is very nice! As you sang a cappella and I'm not familiar with the songs, there's not much critique I can give... You did sound a little tired/lacking for breath on some of the higher notes, but I'm sure that's just because of the impromptu recordings. :P

I really enjoyed your character clips, as well. Your Phoenix was great, as was your Edgeworth, though I personally imagine the prosecutor with a deeper voice (of course that won't have any bearing on who actually gets cast for the part :P ). Your Larry was FANTASTIC. Definitely laughed listening to it.

FF3girl and Pennfalath--great job! Very warm ballad and a great use of the characters. And the singing is nice as well.

As promised, the Mia song is done and uploaded.

For the musical, I thought it'd be a good idea to strengthen Mia and Phoenix's relationship a bit before she dies in the second case--that way, the feeling of hopelessness will be amplified a bit. And seeing as how she dies pretty early on, I thought it fitting for her to have an anthem-type song involving her mentoring Phoenix.

I picture Phoenix getting mid-court jitters after Larry's 1-1 testimony, and a small recess is held (I know that wasn't exactly in the game, but work with me here). During the recess, he's feeling helpless and afraid, and it's up to Mia to really tell him what being a lawyer is all about. This way, Phoenix can take his late mentor's advice in the later, much tougher trials (in fact, this song could probably work in reprise form near the end when Maya channels Mia in court).

This song is JUST Mia, no Phoenix or any other schmoes. And it was very tough to come up with the lyrics, since it's the first song I wrote for this project centering on a character who has both dignity and self-control (heh).

The recording is higher quality this time since I used Adobe Audition (and it took much, much longer). I'd like to especially thank my sister, Melissa, for learning and singing this, although she is NOT auditioning for the play, heh. There are still a few weird notes and stuff I wish I could've played better, but you know how it goes.

Enough of that blabbering, here's the song, tentatively titled "Justice for All" (if you can think of a better title, let me know, because I couldn't come up with much).

:takethat:

http://www.last.fm/music/TriforceBun/_/Justice+For+All

I recommend headphones.

Spoiler: Lyrics
-MIA FEY-
There are times when you'll feel lonely and defeated,
and throughout some trials you'll only be mistreated.
Yes, we both share that rapport, but in the midst of courtroom war,
I remember the ideals I'm fighting for.

I fight for truth. I fight for justice.
I fight for everyone to have a fair chance,
and when faced with tribulation, I think of my own inspiration.
He taught me to always hold my stance.
I fight for men. I fight for women.
I fight for anyone who aims to do what's right--
so I picked this occupation, a dedication to salvation.
For society, I fight.

There are people in this world who'll try to break you.
They frame others for their vices just to shake you.
Planting evidence and lies so their crime will be disguised,
they all mask the truth and that's when we arise.

Some attorneys are dishonest and just want a perfect win,
and that's when the true challenges begin.
Just believe in your client and the truth will be explored,
and don't forget just what you're fighting for!

We fight for peace. We fight for order.
We fight with evidence, intelligence, and trust.
And we entered this vocation to prevent misinformation,
to aim for a verdict, fair and just.
We fight for all. We fight with honor.
So stand wholeheartedly, and keep your goals in sight--
and in times of desperation, defend with raw determination.
For you and I...we fight.

I haven't posted a reply in a long while, don't want you guys to think I dropped off the face of the earth or something. :-P

Actorman: When I listened to your sound clips, I couldn't decide which was best because they were all very very awesome. I especially liked your Edgeworth and your Larry. And the Max Payne voice you used....I could hear his screechy "OBJECTION!" echoing in my head perfectly. :paynehair: Awesome job, and it's nice to hear someone else with classical voice training like me. As for your "Samurai" rendition, I really like the sound of your voice for Phoenix, but it sounded a bit like you only heard the song a couple of times before you recorded it. ^^; It did have some very weird rhythms, and I think it'd be easier to express the meaning of the verses (which is the most important part) if you weren't playing so much with the rhythms--just keep it simple. You should try Edgeworth's part on it, too. Everyone seems to like your Edgeworth a lot. :D

To Actorman and Skankin' Garbage: Maybe it's just me, but I really really really don't like the last part of "Samurai" being sung up the octave, by anyone. It just loses its musical quality and takes away from the awesomeness in that part of the song. :sadshoe: You guys have awesome voices, but it just sounds like you're yelling it because it's at the top of your range (it's my mid-range, and I'm a soprano, lol). And it's probably possible for TriforceBun to simply transpose the key up a bit, rather than you having to belt at the top of your range or struggle at the bottom.

What all vocalists should probably do is tell Ethed and the composers we have what their ranges are. This will be more useful when parts are actually cast, but still useful now when we're writing a few songs already. This said, my range is consistently between G -1, to A 2 (lol, I have NO IDEA if I stated that correctly. It means G below middle C, to A right above the treble staff).

When I get some time (and privacy) I'll be finally recording my script auditions. And I'm waiting for TriforceBun's Mia song, too. :3

Everyone's doing such an awesome job; the talent and commitment on this thread continues to amaze me. :will:

EDIT: ZOMG, TriforceBun's Mia song was posted when I was posting this reply!!!! Must....learn....and....audition...!
EDIT #2: Omg.... TriforceBun = <3. I swear, if I wasn't married.... Lol. Awesome. Song. Dude. PERIOD.

I am so glad we have Triforcebun... :larry: The first thing I thought when listening to your recording was "Oh, yeah, that's what a REAL pianist sounds like." LOL

Maybe if you have some free time, you could look over the songs I've put piano parts up for and maybe arrange a GOOD piano part! LOL

Actorman--I hope I didn't hurt your pride too much... I only feel comfortable giving criticism to people who I think are strong enough at what they do to take it, and I can tell you are. ^_~

FF3girl and Triforcebun the songs are awesome :redd:

But I did notice that in both songs some of the lyrics sounded awkward in context. I'm taking the ones I noticed most and just giving examples of how the lines could be changed so that they can be sung more naturally.

Make it Right:
"I trust you, Nick, and I’m no longer afraid" could become "I trust you Nick, I am no longer afraid", using the same rhythm as the line before it (or similar).

Justice for All:
"Yes, we both share that rapport, but in the midst of courtroom war" could become "Yes, we both share the same rapport, but in the midst of this courtroom war". Adding a couple of syllables here and there helps it match the rhythm of the song better.

Great work everyone! :b33r:

Wow, excelent job on "Justice For All".

Spoiler:
Kudos on the reference to Godot.

And I agree that we should have some recurring themes (eg, as background music or between songs in - of course not the whole time), and this melody (especially where she sings "I fight for...". it's perfect to return a couple of times) should be one of them.

For people who still don't know what I mean, in "Avenue Q", you sometimes get the "purpose" melody as background music, and in "South Park: bigger longer and uncut", the melody of "Mountain Town" is used quite often. Another fine example would be Alan Menken's job on the music of Disney's "renaissance" movies (end 80's, begin 90's), though he does tend to exagerate and only use the melody from the songs for instrumental parts.

Done. (I think)

Anyway, I could seriously see this song reprised at the end, sung by all the good guys, or just as the grand finale (instrumentally or vocally)

It's been a while since I played case 4, but

Spoiler:
Case 4
-When convincing edgeworth to let them represent him

-After Von Karma is declared guilty and all that, isn't there some conversation like this between Phoenix and Edgeworth? The problem is, Edgeworth himself says things like this at the end of the second game.

Oh, and FF3girl (and others): another small point on Make It Right: I think the part where they sing together (eg, the end) should last a little longer (twice as long, actually), so the effect of "oh, look, they are singing together in different voices...awesome" gets preserved, ti's the end of the song anyways, so we can stretch it a bit.

Oh, no, please, it's fine--I really love feedback! That's all part of learning--if I ever want to make it big someday, then notes are a totally prevalent source of improvement! If anything, I should thank you greatly, I totally appreciate it.

Good suggestion about the intro and ending--I should really come up with a different harmony part for each of them to sing, too... ... hmmm.. now I'm getting all excited again! Look what you did!!

I also agree that we need to come up with some central themes to play throughout... Do we want to try to compose completely new music for these themes, or should we try to re-use the video game music?

In my opinion, creating new music is the best way to go, but I really like how in "The Samurai Always Wins" for example, Triforcebun replays the courtroom music during the speaking parts. I guess what i mean to say is I would like it if we created new music, but created "cameo" appearances to the original music... if that makes sense.. ^_^;;

TriforceBun: thanks for saying you'll try to work on the piano parts for those songs. I hope I'm not stressing you out by giving you too much to worry about... :beef:

I agree, ff3girl - I like how the tunes from the games pop in periodically throughout Triforcebun's songs. :) It really helps to unify the whole thing.

Is there anything I can do to contribute to this production? I can start practicing from a script or sing to a song or something like that. :gymshoe:

Heh, on that note, I had initially inserted a small nod to the Fey theme in the newest song, but it ended up not making the cut. If I figure out Make it Right, I think I can squeeze it in there for kicks and giggles.

Oooh! that would be neat-o. Did I say yet that I'm glad we have you?? ^_^

edit: YES! I'm a Desk Jockey Now!!!!! woot!

Edit: Raikujo--We love having everybody audition if they can. I think most script-writing parts have been assigned already (I think there may have been somebody who had to quit, if I remember right.. you should PM Gerkuman if you're interested in writing...)

If you're interested in auditioning, just post a couple songs and read from the script of the game (you can find it on google) or from JennaDarknight's scripts as some characters you're interested in.

Don't tell anyone... but I'm going to edit this post in just a moment with the updated songs!

EDIT: HERE WE GOOOO! :gant:

I did a revision to my previous recording of "The Samurai Always Wins" (I also decided to stay up the octave. :will: )

"The Samurai Always Wins"

Then I decided to put my voice into the other fantastic song, "The Kind of Guy You Can Trust"

"The Kind of Guy You Can Trust"

As always, I love feedback, and can't wait to hear everyones' output!

I know this is kinda' off subject from the actual conversation right now but it just came to mind...

There's so much awesomeness in this project already and it's only been going for about a month. I'd be really heart broken if we had to cut too much out. So, I was thinking that perhaps instead of just making the musical one long chunk we could release parts of it at a time, like episodes. I'm not sure how many people will take to this idea but I thought I'd give it a shot. :pearl:

Actorman--I'm totally going to tell everyone.

Phantomotaku--I like your idea too. I think we can include more dialogue and songs that way.

I've actually wondered about how we're going to perform this, myself. ^_^" Episodes might make sense if it was animation.

Err, actually I'm already in the production as Manfred von Karma ^^;; I was actually asking if there was a script/song for him so I can get to work, but I guess I should've been more specific in what I said >_<;;

I was thinking of making a Von Karma song called "Perfection Incarnate", to be sung before he tasered Maya and Phoenix and stole the evidence, but then I realized I suck at writing songs. :sadshoe:

There was a snippet someone did earlier on the thread for a song called "I am perfection"...there wasn't a lot but it was pretty cool.

Ff3girl, Pennfalath, and TriforceBun: You guys are AMAZING! And there should definitely be a reprise of Justice for All at the end. It just sounds like a good reprise song. :jazzedgy: (Haha, I love that smiley.)

Raikujo: Oops... ... sorry boot that. It's been a while since I've looked at the first post... XD My bad. I don't remember seeing any songs posted for you yet ... I remember a song that was posted earlier for Grossberg.

Thanks, Comfortably Numb! I'm glad you like. ^_^

Actorman: I think the second recording is much better! Muy bien! Your voice doesn't sound strained at all going up the octave... Still, I feel like Phoenix's part should be in the middle there!! d'oh.. I also think there's still some parts where your phrasing is kind of awkward, and it might be because we don't have sheet music for it yet, so that can be hard.

I like your recording on "The Kind of Guy You Can Trust" better than "Samurai Always Wins." I think you do and excellent job at transitioning between the speech/singing lines. Your acting is soo sweet, and I don't think there's any kind of problem with phrasing in this one--sound wonderful!

I think you make an excellent Phoenix. But I still vote for you for the role of Edgeworth. I've noticed in particular that your pronunciation is practically perfect (and wouldn't Edgeworth say everything perfectly?), and I really love your "slightly" British accent in your earlier audition.

Edit: Yay 1000th post!!
