It was inevitable. One of your forum members was eventually going to start a topic on this subject, and...I guess I'm gonna be the one who's gonna start it.

Now, personally, I like Star Trek in general, but it's not to the point I'm obsessed with it. Sure, I do go to this certain Wikia, but it's not on a regular basis (more like when I'm bored, and I don't feel like doing something else).

Now, the question is, what do you think of Star Trek (It can be any Star Trek)? Like it? Hate it? Want it to die? Want another movie or series? Like any parodies of it? (INSERT RELEVANT QUESTION(S) HERE)

Talk about it, I wanna see what you guys think about it.

I like Star Trek, though mostly TNG and DS9. The original series is cool, but its age and cornyness kind of dulls it for me. I didn't care much for Voyager, and I haven't seen enough of Enterprise to judge it, though I suppose it's alright from what I've watched.

Oooh, I'm a trekkie, You should see my book collection. I've got shelves and shelves of them. I'm a larger fan of TNG and a bit of Voyager. But after the fact, I've dived into New Frontier. And I'm astounded how much better it is then anything I've seen in television or in other books. Peter David is a riot and he takes risks with his characters that you don't see happen almost ever in other novels, much less Star Trek

I'm considering reading some Star Trek novels when I get around to it (especially that Terran Empire triology that's being released). However, I do have a copy of Leanord Nimoy's "I Am Spock", and I read it from time to time. Man, he's got a lot of interesting stories about his acting career in that book.

Ahh, Star Trek... That takes me back...

I can remember sitting in my dad's office and watching the original series while he worked. (Balance of Terror sticks out in my mind the most, for some reason...)

I even have a few Star Trek games. (Like, 3... 4 if you count the Interactive Technical Manual, a must-have for nerds like myself who are interested in how a fictional starship works) I seem to be the only one who didn't mind the Starfleet Academy game, if not only because I used to watch my dad play it as a kid. Oh nostalgia...

Oh dad... How I miss you...

P.S. - The Borg give me nightmares. What? Am I the only one? Even at 16 they still creep me the fuck out.
The post has ended.

I also have a ton of Star Trek books. I'm a big fan of DS9 and the later seasons of Enterprise and TNG. I enjoyed Voyager and the original as well, but not as much as DS9 and TNG. Enterpirse probably falls near the bottom of my list.
Who? Wright? Yeah, I remember him, I hear he's busy lately. You know, not to ring my own bell, but I sort of taught him everything he knows. I'm sure he's grateful.

The ONLY Star Trek for me is the original series. I grew up watching this Star Trek-and fighting with my cousin over me wanting to watch it. I won-and I absolutely LOVE it! Edgy Thinks I like it's corniness and humour along with the fact I had a MASSIVE crush on William Shatner in my younger years.
Anyway, I liked it because it was both serious and funny, corny and straight-laced (I loved the Tribbles in particular and really liked the episode "The Trouble with Tribbles"), that I thought Captain Kirk was HOT HOT HOT and it could be scary at times. I also watched and loved the animated original Star Trek series and I'm also happy to know that it is now available on DVD. :)

It just so happened that my favorite TOS (The original series, or just Star Trek) episode is "The Trouble with Tribbles". I also liked how Deep Space Nine revisited this episode in DS9's episode "Trials & Tribbluations".

True, the Borg were scary, but they never really creeped me out. What creeped me out was in the Voyager episode, "Scorpion", where one single swipe from Species 8472's Claws would be enough to royally screw you over, health-wise (But, like many other Star Trek episodes, there is always a last minute cure devised by the chief medical officer of the series in question). Surprisingly, though, this was one of my favorite Voyager episodes.

You have to remember I was more then likely 8 or something when I saw best of both worlds.

As for my favorite episodes... I'd have to say, either anything that has to deal with Q in TNG, or "A Fist full of Datas" where Worf, Troi, and Alexander get traped in a Old West Holo program.

Creepy beings in the original that scared the heck out of me were the Horta in "The Devil in the Dark" and the "angel" in "The Children Shall Lead." *shudder*
The Horta was at least exonnorated later on when it was learned that it, by nature, was NOT a killer but was just protecting it's eggs. The "angel," on the other hand, was nasty and ugly when it was shown in it's true colours!

There is also that one tar-like creature that killed Tasha Yar in the TNG. Does anyone know what its called? (That thing is bizarre!)

I believe it was called "Aarmus", or something like that. It's been a while since I've seen that episode ("Skin of Evil", I think?), so I don't quite remember.

Thank for the both of you. But, I have another question regarding for Tasha Yar.

I know that in some alternate universe that she was still alive and later captured by the Romulians and had a kid...explain to this to me. What happened exactly? (Sorry if I didn't make any sense in this.)

Spoiler: That tar monster
Armus. He's a skin of Evil (as the episode title implies) shed by a race of Titans.

That was a very sad episode...

That's somewhat correct.
Spoiler:
The Enterprise C got thrusted into the 24th century which in effect changed history for the worst. Tasha Yar learned from Guinan (Whoopi) that she was supposed to be dead and requested a transfer to the Enterprise C. Tasha was one of the survivors of the Enterprise C. Later on, she was captured by Romulans, raped, and gave birth to Sela (also played by Denise Crosby). Tasha Yar was later executed for trying to escape with Sela in her arms.

Quote:
Sela: "Everything in me that was human died that day with my mother. All that's left now is Romulan."

((Sorry for the double post... someone beat me to the earlier issue regarding Armus.))

Picard and Janeway. I consider them the most heroic (and funny at times) as ship captains go.

My favorite Trek character of all time is Geordi La Forge. The reasoning behind this is that I have Asperger's syndrome, which is a form of autism. Geordi La Forge, to me, gave the impression that disabled persons could serve right alongside "normal" persons. He gave me hope that the future would be bright.

As for my favorite TOS episodes, the enhanced version of Balance of Terror (which was just the right amount of CGI and not too much...f**k you George Lucas) and the enhanced version of City on the Edge of Forever (edith keeler must die...best line EVAR).

As for my favorite TNG episodes, I kinda liked any episode where Geordi La Forge had more than just a supporting role.

Haven't seen any DS9 or Voyager or Enterprise.

I can't believe the lack of DS9 Wuv in this forum. I thought it was the best of the series'. I like the gritty, deep plots and the fact that the episodes actually affected the later ones (TNG did it with the Borg, but still not often enough). And then the characters were good like Major Kira, Dr. Bashir and Garak the Cardassian.

But what I really watched it for was Odo and Quark. Odo was sad, poor guy not knowing where he came from. And then he fell in love with Major Kira too, and had trouble expressing it. He was good at his security job tho, and he often ran into Quark. Quark was just hillarious, all his schemes and get rich quick ideas. Then his more morally concious brother Rom stole the scene, or Rom's nephew tried to get into Starfleet or his mother tried to campaign for equal rights. Yep, DS9 is my favourite, and I like Star Trek as a whole.

I'm a fan of all Star Trek up to Enterprise, because I don't like Enterprise.

My favorite episodes were:

TOS: The Trouble with Tribbles.
TNG: All Good Things... . Both parts.
VOY: Year of Hell. Both parts.

DS9 is missing because I have not seen enough to have a favorite episode.

\yay for Star Trek!
I haven't seen much of the Original Series (first season only) and four of the TNG seasons - and all the movies. I guess that's not much to some, but I still think it's great. I've seen a few of Voyager, looks nice, especially The Doctor - and urgh, Enterprise seemed horrible. I haven't seen anything of DS9, though. TNG is so far my favourite, although I heard the Original Series gets better near the end - I also liked the movies, which were made later. Is DS9 good if you liked TNG?
As for favourite episodes.. I liked "In Theory", where a girl falls in love with Data, "A Fistful of Datas" where Troi, Alexander and Worf are ina Wild West simulation where everyone turns into lethal Datas, 'All the Good Things...' because it has Q, has a great storyline, and rocks overall Will Powers

I saw that in waterstones, but I didn't pick it up. Perhaps I should've though...

And Mr. Tinker, DS9 has a different feel to TOS, TNG and Voyager. It's more political, and it's set on a space station, rather than a ship. It's hard to describe, but it's REALLY REALLY GOOD ^_^

My mother is huge Star Trek Fan, a bought he season 2 of the Original series and wen't out the next day to get season 1 and 3 so he collection would be complete! She's crazy for Star Trek....
Me personally, I love it too. I found a old Starfleet Academy book explaining all the technology of the OS and everything!! I'll scan the cover of the book when I get home. I love the music more than anything, DS9 intro was the best out of all the series. Even though from what I was watching from Enterprise, that Intro was not faithfull at all...period. TNG is my fav out of the whole series, Picard is too awesome!!

I thought Deep Space 9 sucked hard and was the weakest of the series.

It had nothing to do with Patrick Stewart and there was a lack of androids.

Not to mention "The" Sisko. Good god.
