I'm at a real tie between Chimani and Enguard

Matt I liked this guy not just because he was a sociopath, but he made a sick twisted game out of his whole court-trial. Had he gotten a Guilty verdict before the "actual" conclusion of the trial, he could've ordered shelly to submit the video tape to the authorities. (He would still be a deadman for blackmailing Shelly, but Maya would've still gotten iced)

Chimani She's just plain sick, manipulative, and calculating. I haven't played GS3 yet, but according to this site's character description, "if the GS series has a final boss, its her". That, and she's the most attractive villain...

I thought about Gant, but I felt he was more of a walking contradiction, rather than a true evil-bastard.

in my mind, he sort of lost points for being the guy who "did something bad for a good cause"

A good cause? Maybe from his own perspective, since he was only looking out for himself. I'd say he murdered twice only out of pure selfishness and ego.

I'd have to go with Gant too just because he can be so cold and calculating while at the same time having an honestly cheerful demeanor. That's kind of the difference with him and Engarde. Engarde is an actor after all, so his "witless movie star" persona is easier to see through.

Haven't gotten into GS3 yet, so I can't comment there.

Redd White I mean it. No, seriously, I mean it. This guy literally had the entire legal system in the palm of his hand. No one would dare speak out against him... not even the Judge. He could literally and easily get away with anything he wanted and covered up his tracks so flawlessly that no one had anyway of following his lead.

Then, along comes some rookie no-name attorney and his entire world comes crashing down right on top of him. He was... how could I say this... "shot down in flames".

Though, I'm still having a difficult time grasping the fact that Matt could very well be one of the best villains I've ever known.

Von Karma - Because stun gunning your foes out of the way is awesome.

Damon - Because eccentric old guys with hidden agendas are awesome.

GS2

Enguard - Because dudes with double personalities, scars, and the ability to pull gravy out of their asses at random are awesome.

GS3

Chimani - Because she's the Gyakuten Saiban Makron.

GS4

I am not going to risk it. No.

Worst villains, however, include: Redd White Wellington Ini Mimi Morgan Godot

Okay, that was just a joke.... or not.

Ini Mimi Don't take me wrong, I like her. The reason I list her because I feel sorry for her past, and the twist when it was revealed that she's actually not the real Ini was simply genius.

Von Karma 100 % EVIL. Me like.

Devasque She's calm and beautiful, yet manipulating. Again, feel sorry for what happened in the past.

Redd White Haha, full of himself... Impossachievable.

Um... I can't choose between VK or Gant, they're great in different ways. JFA has Enguarde and I haven't played GS3 or 4. And we're not allowed to mention anything GS4 related here Mikker- even if it IS a joke .

Ini Mimi I wouldn't call her my favorite, but as I'm sure you've noticed I think Mimi is an utter genius. When I got to the point in case 2 when Phoenix implied that who we thought was Ini was really Mimi, my jaw utterly would've hit the floor if it was possible.

Morgan She's so in need of having the branch family be looked at as something more that she's willing to get her own niece wrongfully accused of murder.

Devasque Cold, straight to the point and doesn't mess around. I think Dee is utterly wonderful.

Damon A true manipulator and a genius. To see how many people he controlled, for so long is just amazing.

Mind you I've only played up to case 3 in GS2. I'm really looking forward to seeing what makes Enguard so wonderful.

Redd White Lyksrsly. This guy is a douche.

Von Karma BADBADBAD. I hate everyone that's mean to Edgey. xD

Yanni Yogi Share the air, bitch.

Morgan I love this character. She's so desperate, but she's not a bad person IMO because she's doing it for the sake of Pearl. And anyone that wants to kill Maya is OK in my book.

Acro Because he's really a good person. And anyone that wants to kill Regina deserves a hug.

GS1: Damon & Von Karma I'm having a tough time trying to decide who's the most evil between the two of them since they are both bad in different ways. Aw, heck, I'll just stake them both. *STAKES Gant & von Karma* I LOATHE these two which, as far as villians go, is good. Edgy Thinks

GS2: Enguard This guy makes my skin crawl. I hate him, too.
Spoiler:
Crazy and a sociopath..lovely combination, isn't it? And he does hide it well, does he not? Creepy.

Shelly
Spoiler:
He's an assassin and all but, for some weird reason, I do like him (which isn't the norm for me). Meekins (And I sure hope he gets Matt at some point...) He does have a code and he sticks to it, no matter what.

GS3: Chimani From what I've heard and read about her on CR, she sounds like one manipulative witch.

I do agree with Orcaizer Al about who the worst villians are, especially Morgan Fey. I find her to be absolutely pathetic.

Hey guys, no GS4 talk WHATSOEVER outside the prosecution lobby, okay? I don't even want to see it under tags anywhere near here.

As for villains...I say Engarde because Phoenix never actually *proves* he did it. The only way to beat Engarde is to make him confess. If not for Fran showing up when she did Phoenix would have lost, one way or the other.

I guess a few others you have to trick into confessing rather than actually nail them, but I love the psychos. Takes balls to lie to a mind reader!

Herr...I guess that depends on what you mean by "best villian"...
The ones I like the most personally:

Devasque
Yanni Yogi
Ini Mimi (once she'd been unmasked)

The ones I hate the most personally (which I guess is the sign of a good villian:

Taser
Enguard
Gant

Although I do admit Gant is a tie between liking his jolly demeanor and disliking his evilness. The ones on the "hate list" are certainly the most fascinating.

Geez Mikker...I've been spoiling myself on just about everything related to GS4 and that still nearly made my heart stop.

Anyway,

Spoiler: GS3
Zenitora has got to be up there. Total raging badass who just happens to be completely whipped. He may be a jerk, but when you find out about his debts and relationship with Urami...man, I just can't help but feel sympathetic. Plus his cute face is about my favorite GS animation ever. Yuusaku is on the opposite end of the spectrum, being the only "villain" in the series that you wind up proving not guilty. He's just freaking adorable, though, and one of the few people who would think to resort to high-society robbery after losing a job as a security guard. I guess Mareka's just that crazy. Also, Gant is great, just like so many others have said.

Bling Bling -
Spoiler:
Like stated above, he had the whole legal system under his thumb, not to mention quite a bit of muscle politically as well. He was a right bastard that destroyed countless lives, directly or indirectly, through his blackmail, or influencing certain decisions that could have ruined more than just the families of the blackmailed. Out of everyone, he's probably had the most blood on his hands, even if he only personally committed one murder.

Matt -
Spoiler:
Psychotic, manipulative, uncaring, selfish, and capable of playing with lives like toys. And god...the courtroom taunting...he was a true bastard out and out.

Chimani -
Spoiler: Serious GS3 spoilerage, DO NOT READ unless you know already
Remorseless, manipulative, and all behind a 'sweet' facade. She sent an innocent man to jail for her 'murder', murdered her foster sister and tried to frame the same poor bastard of THAT murder...manipulated that same poor bastard into committing public suicide in order to save herself, THEN poisoned the counsel after his persistant questioning on that case. THEN, trying to kill Phoenix, framing him of the resulting murder when that plan failed, and then...after all that, after all that...SHE COMES BACK FROM THE DEAD TO KILL AGAIN!! All to settle a 5 year grudge. Serious *****, and very interesting as one of the very few female perpetrators. She takes the cake, the after-dessert coffee, AND the leftovers the next day.

*yawn* I haven't heard so many adjectives since my last english lesson.

Spoiler: 2:4 - If you haven't played through Justice for All, don't read this!
But yes, and also Enguard was smart enough to get an assassin that would think of kidnapping Maya Fey in order to swing the court's decision. This would make phoenix work extra hard to prove his innocence. Shame he left the cameras as evidence though, he really should have burnt that giant bear...

Spoiler: my opinion on Morgan
Actually, I got the feeling that the only reason she treasured Pearl so much was because she was her way back to getting honor in her name. She never truly loved her daughters. Pearl was simply a figurehead for her to use so that the people of Kurain village would stop looking down on her. She didn't do anything for Pearl's sake, she did it for her own. It's just that the end result would be Pearl being head of Kurain village.

Now when I think about it, Matt really is a gnarly villain. Only someone with a lot of balls and mental disorder could pull off a stunt like that. He plays around with people like toys and tosses them away like dead batteries when their usefulness wears out. He manipulates people for personal gain, and has recklessly and irresponsibly destroyed countless lives just to get his way and to further support and protect his "refreshing like a spring breeze" image. Hell, he doesn't even care if he gets sent to prison as long as he doesn't get killed. Besides, he could just have Shelly bail him out due to Shelly's honorable standings.

What's more he defeated the legal system in such a discreet and underhanded manner that if Phoenix made one slip-up everything would be all over for him. Like Croik stated, there was no way to pin him down, except forcing him confess his guilt. And, the way Phoenix and Edgeworth pulled it off was awesome (although everyone helped, it was really Phoenix who put the final nail in the coffin).

Plus, those scars are FREAKY! Beef Just how did he get them!?

Eh, maybe. But if you saw the end where she's talking to herself in the jail cell saying that she "Did it all for PEarl's sake" i think she meant it. True, she hates the main family and would do anything to restore the honor of the branch family like she did in GS3 I think she also cares about Pearl.

...And did that whole branch/main family conflict remind anyone of the Hyuuga clan from Naruto or was it just me? Like Neji is Pearl-ish because no matter how much he pwns Hinata he can never be the heir to the Hyuuga clan and even though Hinata kind of sucks compares to Neji (Maya-ish) she's the heiress...?

In GS1, I liked Redd a whole lot, but he came into the story at the wrong time. Rather than being a climactic final case in which you could hardly do anything due to White's blackmail of almost everyone, it was the second case in the entire series. Naturally, they had to make it easy...and in a way, it was too easy. It didn't even end properly: even if Phoenix had taken that list and "released it to the press", what would that prove? Nothing. It's just a list of people, with no proof that they were connected with Redd. If the press printed anything suggesting that he WAS blackmailing them, he could just sue for libel. Redd White

There must have been more to the list than just the names. Mia's smart enough to know that you can't just write down what you want and leak it to the press. She probably had some incriminating evidence on that paper that said "White did it!".

I'd definitely have to say Von Karma. His obsession with perfection was (ironically) a perfect villainous trait. In court, you really felt the sense of helplessness against his perfect case, and finally breaking through with the decisive evidence was so very satisfying. I think that the headbang scene is the most satisfying villain breakdowns in the series (though I haven't played GS3 yet).

Also, he pulled a tazer on Phoenix! It's pretty hard to compete with that.

Matt was certainly a shit of the highest order, but his plot wasn't really anything special. Tons of movie villains have done it before. Plus, his cocky nature meant he seriously overestimated his control over Phoenix and de Killer, thus he gave himself enough rope to hang himself with.

Now Ini Mimi's plot was masterful. Doing all that sleight-of-hand stuff at the murder, getting a willing accomplice who can easily cover everything up, and then adopting a persona so vapid and annoying that everyone thinks you've got little tono connection to the case... brilliant.

Well, technically, he didn't plan any of his murders, but the coverup of Neil's murder and "framing" of Ema were pretty damn clever.
