I already posted this in my introduction thread but I just skimmed through this thread and I seem to be the only one with this story... So here goes, in more detail. It's a bit long, but it might be entertaining! :yogi:

When I'd just graduated (from high school that is), an exchange student came to our school, by the name of Mai. She and I met more or less coincidentally, but we became pretty good friends cause I was already into the whole Japanese thing and she was just a super friendly person who got along with everybody. She was also a bit of a geek, and we connected on that level. Initially our relationship was awkward cause of the language barrier, but she is really a super smart girl so she learned English and Dutch in like a few months.

Anyway! One day when I was at her place she was playing this GBA game, and it kept going: :igiari:

And she was laughing at it, really into the game. I asked her, "What's that game all about?" and she looked at me awkwardly, probably trying to think of the Dutch word for "lawyer". Next thing she did was push the GBA into my hands and say "I'll translate for you". Bam, I was thrown right in the middle of something with a "Tonosaman" and an old lady looking angry in a courtroom. I was confused, but intrigued. But of course, I couldn't make heads or tails of the game, even with Mai's insistence that I should "Matta!" when the lady said something or other. So I gave it back to her, and we went on to do something else.

But the game stuck in my head somehow... The funny animation of the old woman breathing heavy, the voices, the music... So the next time I saw her, I asked if it was okay for me to play the game with her from the beginning. And so we did, playing through the case, her Dutch and English at this point were awesome so she had hardly any trouble explaining what was going on. And I was absolutely absorbed by the whole thing! :edgy: We played it from start to finish and it was a great experience. (I recommend it!)

Anyway, she left in the summer ( :larry: ), and I forgot about the game, not knowing about the sequels or anything else. I just thought it was one of those obscure Japanese games, and it just happened to be really awesome, with 0 chance of being ported.

Of course, then the DS came out, and I had to buy one as I was composing for it. So I thought to myself: "As long as I'm getting one of these gimmicky devices, I might as well check out some games." And to my great surprise, my search resulted in a black box with the Gyakuten Saiban logo in silver letters on it, with the note by whatever website it was that the DS version would be translated completely to English.

I imported it, and it was even better then I remembered it since Mai probably missed a lot of the humour in the translation (although having a hot Asian girl translate it for you has its benefits too :sal: ).

Anyway... Yeah, that's how I got into the game. I've been importing the GS games ever since, and one day, one day, I will read Japanese well enough to play them in their original language. Or, maybe not... That is to say, I don't know if I wil :yuusaku:

I forgot how it started...

I think someone mentioned it to me, and then I got the game on my phone.. I liked it. Then we had a classroom trial of Martin Luther in History, which made me want the game even more.

And now, here I am. :yogi:

Err....oh, now I remember! So, I was interested in this game a little already (I mean, the DS version)...I hadn't watched any trailers or other stuff, I had only read an review of the game, that just made me more interested. But, because there were so many good games coming I didn't consider buying this...then, on my birthday, I got an "gift token" (?) to a local game/electronics store. As it was 40 € and AA cost 39,99 € , and it wasn't enough to the other games I wanted, i took Ace Attorney. And that was a good choice.

...since then I have been addicted to the series. I waited for JFA:s EU-version and I imported T&T, I couldn't wait. :will:

My father actually bought himself JFA when it came out. I started playing it after he gave up on the second case. So yeah... he's still stuck on 2-2 and I've finished AA, JFA and I'm waiting for T&T.

(He likes Trauma center much better than Phoenix Wright. My father, I mean)

I have a friend on Livejournal (I'm unsure if she would mind if I said her name) who loooved Phoenix Wright. She was a Viewtiful Joe fan like me, so I thought, "Well, if I like Viewtiful Joe, I might like this." So the next time I went to Best Buy, I saw PW: AA and told Dad, "Let's buy this game. My friend likes it." He replied, "Are you going to like this?" I said yes, so he shrugged and said "mmkay" and got it for me.

When I got home, I played and got addicted! Heck, I even played it on the way to school and at school. I also ended up staying up late just to finish the cases! I just loved it sooo much.

So here I am now, addicted to PW and constantly fangirling over it. :D

Let's see. A friend of mine has a DS and bought the first game. He started playing it and I watched...then stared and drooled at the hotness that is Edgeworth...then started yelling out OBJECTION! even though I wasn't even playing the game. I got addicted and he let me borrow it and I literally couldn't stop playing. The game, characters, story and music are outstanding and well orchestrated. I was hooked. Now that I have my own DS I no longer need to borrow his. And it's funny, he hasn't gotten to JFA yet and I've already beaten it. :edgy:

I was a latecomer... I didn't get my DS until March 2007 and by that point in time Phoenix and his objections had been all over the internet. Based on what I had seen and heard from friends, I had to have it. I played through PW: AA in about two days and an obsessive love was born.

Well at school, my friends were talking about lawyers and prosecutors and judges. I was like WTF Law and Order? Then they mentioned a whip...And Franziska. I asked about it, they told me it was the second Phoenix Wright.

Eventually my sister got the second game because we couldn't find the first, then my friend let me borrow his.

>.> I still have it.

I played the first one on supercard. I didn't have any idea what kind of game it would be or anything about it. I played the first case and thought that this was freaking awesome. I played the whole game through on supercard. After a long time I tried to get to get all the PW:s genuine. I didn't find the first one until I noticed them all in Play-asia. Well now I have all three GS and soon I will get Apollo Justice.

Well, few years back I had seen this ad for this weird lawyer-game. I was like 'meh, that's nice, but I can't get everything that seems interesting to me'.

Eventually I forgot all about it... until one day I went to my daily blam/save trip to Newgrounds.com and saw something called Phoenix Wrong on the front page. I watched it and thought it was awesome. Later came out another one... and another... and another... I liked them all very much. Eventually I wanted to learn more about the game itself - so, when my dad asked what I wanted for Christmas I said: "Nintendo DS and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney".

The rest is history :garyuu:

The objection generator made me think, "Huh, this game looks cool."
Fast forward to November 2007. (late as hell, I know.) I'm just browsing GameStop, selling some games, doot doo doot doo doo... I look in the bargain bin, and what do I see?
...
...
La Pucelle: Tactics.

So I grabbed that. But then out of the corner of my eye, I see on the shelf! A USED COPY OF PHOENIX WRIGHT: ACE ATTORNEY FOR 20 BUCKS! I'm like "Fucking sweet, dude!" and my friend was like "I heard that game's awesome!" and then once I grabbed that too my other friend said "...you make blind angels cry." but he hates everything so FUCK HIM :D
Even the clerk was like, "Ooh, that's a good game."

I forgot all about La Pucelle, got home, popped this sucker into my DS, and I was hooked.
I'd then buy a brand new copy of T&T about two weeks later. (my friend had already bought JFA while I was visiting my grandmother in Oregon later that week) I even reserved Apollo Justice later. And I NEVER reserve games!

Well, I first heard about the series around Christmas a few years ago, back when Trauma Center first came out. My parents gave me a choice: I could get TC or PW. I chose TC, which I don't regret. But I still intended to get PW and never did. D:

I only got interested in fandom and stuff when I read so much about it on Fandom!Secrets and decided to do some independent research. I plan to buy the games when I get home from vacation~

July(?) 2005: I find out about a series called "Gyakuten Saiban" heading its way to America through a Nintendo Power magazine. Can't exactly remember which issue though (I think it was when it had a design change)

Late February/Early March 2007: My friend shows me his R4 collection and plays PW:AA. Looks interesting, and around my current budget, but nothing.

November 2007: I get my new R4, and I ask my friend if I could have some of his games (I'm too lazy to trudge through all those rom sites). Among the games I find, I see PW:AA. I remember the game from the months above, so I bring the game to my R4.

And we all know where I ended up! Image

So, in about July? last year, one of my IM friends mentioned he was playing his new game, JFA, which had finally been released here.

I remembered about Phoenix Wright, of course. There was a spate of people with it in sigs on forums and things, but I assumed it was some kind of meme because it was fun to shout 'OBJECTION!' or whatever. I asked a few questions about the game, and it sounded vaguely interesting, so I filed it in my mental list of games to consider trying one day.

Fast forward to November? I'm very fussy when it comes to games. I get bored after 5min by way too many of them. Purchase is risky. So of course I had to get one of those Supercard thingies.. and I really do delete the ROMs within 24 hours, bored sick by them. If it's still interesting the next day, I tend to buy it. I don't buy many games.

Needing a new distraction, I downloaded 4 or so games I'd heard of.
Boring. Delete. Boring. Delete. Boring. Delete. Ah. The lawyer game.

Once I had this book called ''You be the Jury - Courtroom IV' It had these cases where you had to find contradictions and stuff. I thought this game would be a slightly more interactive version of that.

I was not prepared for Phoenix.

It took about 2 minutes for Phoenix to display all his characteristic traits which completely endeared him to me. He was 'so nervous' but so eager to help his friends and so eager to help people. He knew Larry was an idiot, but he was loyal to his friend and knew he wasn't a bad guy, really. He was already talking about the idealistic reasons why he'd become a lawyer - to help another friend and people in trouble in general who were falsely accused, because he knew what it was like. Then he revealed himself as an intelligent legal genius. I was hopelessly attached already.

Also, the game was so hilarious, I couldn't stop laughing. And if the tutorial case was fun, well, each following case just increased exponentially in epicness and awesomeness. The stories and characters were compelling. [Oh, and I had obviously purchased an actual copy of the game by this point.]

1-4 is what made the series, though. That case is so inexpressibly amazing. I knew I would love Phoenix, Edgeworth and Maya forever. At this point, I considered myself a fan of the series, and made emergency import of game 2 and 3.

How did I get into the series?

It was like January of this year. I was talking with one of my friends via MSN, and he wrote me "Hey, look at this page", and he sent me and Objection! (Can´t remember what was written in the Objection! :yuusaku: ), and yeah, I laughed at it.

Forward onto March, and a new University year :sadshoe: . Anyway, my friend was in the same year as me, so when we met in the U, he told me "Do you remember the Objeticon! thing?", and well... I didn´t remember it very well, but anyway I said yes. Then he told me "Well, here´s the game of that lawyer", and he showed me the game. And I was in a shock, I mean, the graphic was awesome, the music was awesome, and the story priceless, so I inmediatly wanted it, and he sold it to me cause he didn´t like it :gant: .

So when I arrived to my home, I started to play the game, I was like 7 hours into it, and then the next days, and pretty much all that week.

Finally, After I finished the game I started to find the others, and I enjoyed it all. :will:

And that was my history :phoenix:

I was recommened (read: had the game shoved in face after several hours of ranting) by a freind. Anyway, after playing case 1-1 I thought, wow, this is fun! And original. So I bought the second game. And the third. And now it's come to the fourth, and along I've picked up a new fetish, several obsessions, a few odd character traits and an awesome forum I can always count on to entertain me. So thank you, Topaz Fey.

When my dog randomly threw up a DS game in the house. The little title thing was gone so I tried it in my DS.
It was PW:AA and it worked fine.
So I played it through then liked the series...

For some reason or another, my little brother bought the first one off of Ebay. I thought it was a weird decision of him, because he is a very impulsive buyer, but it was the best thing he has bought in years. Now we own all of them.

It started in April of this year. My roomate and I were talking about DS games and he happened to mention PW. I had heard about it and Apollo Justice, but didn't think I would like them (also thought it was kind of weird that they just suddenly change protagonists). He said PW was cool and talked about some of the cases. He only had that one and JFA (he had not finished it yet).

After he talked about the games I said I was intersted, so he let me borrow the first one. I was hooked after that. I breezed through its and JFA. My roomate ended buying TT, so we could play it (he was gracious enough to let me play it first). I made my husband buy me Apollo Justice, and I now I'm going back to collect the other games so I'll have them all.

And I ended up never seeing that fanart that made me want to get it again! XD

I'm actually really new to PW. I got hooked in April ^^'

I've known about the series in a while, from the internet, and nintendo power, and such. I knew I should get it and I would like it, but I just kept putting getting it off and stuff. However, I went on vacation this April, and I needed a video game where I could turn it off and on whenever I wanted and that I could play a little bit at a time. (So that means no long adventure games that have 3.5 save points in the entire game.) So I just decided to get this already since I knew it was a good game like that.

I ordered JFA, T&T, and AJ as soon as I got back home :will:

Me? I fell in the fandom by chance, really. I was merely browsing several places at once a few years ago (god bless having tabbed browsing when IE didn't even dream of doing it) and found a couple friends talking about this strange little DS game about a lawyer, speaking of culprits, murderers, attorneys, prosecutors, spirit channeling and a porcupine-head lawyer. Needless to say, I was thoroughly intrigued at such a strange conversation, and found the little jewel called Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. I dismissed it almost immediately, but the thought of the game ("come the hell on, how can a game about a freaking LAWYER can be fun? o_O") kept haunting me for a while. So after a few months, I gave in and asked my cousin to let me borrow her DS and Ace Attorney 1... And got hooked on the series ever since. XD

I had known about the Phoenix Wright games for years before I bought them through Nintendo Power, but I didn't have a DS until this past Christmas and wasn't planning on getting one considering how little use my GBA had gotten. It was my five year old brother who actually wanted the DS for his present, and when I found that out, I bought JFA (the only one I could find at the discount store to give it a shot). I liked it so much that I bought AA and T&T as soon as I finished it. My brother even tried playing PW! :D He got through to Wellington on the first case of JFA which I thought was quite an achievement considering he hasn't even started first grade yet! He got a bit bored with it though because of all the text, but I'll try to convince him to give it another shot once he's older.

i, by nature, lack a certain attention to details, however, i am a very visual person, so while occasional pictures of PW was not enough, one of my good friends showed me the cover of the 4th Gyakuten Saiban official book thing, and as soon as I laid eyes on Klavier and Kristoph on the cover and the general art style i was hooked, pulled in, and was in love =w=

I actually don't remember all that much. I went to Toys r Us, saw it, (No, not :sawit: ) and decided to buy the game. This was awhile ago. I opened it up, played it for a little while, and didn't really like it. But then a few months later, I was looking for something to play, I found my PW game and actually liked it. So I bought the next three games that came out after.

Granted i bought and sold PW1 and JFA about 2 or 3 times but now have them all and very happy to play throught them again apart from redoing case 2-1 on JFa it worst case ever sorry to go off topic and sorry for very long story lol

A friend recommended the first game to me, explained the premise and told me it's worth checking out. I saw it at Circuit City for 25 bucks, popped it in when I got in the car and I've loved it since.

I also have to say, the art style attracted me to the games in the first place. Capcom hires amazing artists.

I kept on seeing the series mentioned various places on the internet and people posting sprites from the games various places on the internet. However, because I didn't have a DS, I never really paid that much attention to them (though I did find myself to be impressed with the character designs).

About been year or so later, I finally got a DS and when I was asked if I wanted any particular game for Christmas, I decided to ask for the the first one to see what the fuss was about.

I got JFA and loved loved that. And then, after much searching , giving up and getting it off the internet, I played AA and after that I was hooked.

I randomly picked up JFA at an EB Games store about two years ago and was like "this game is AWESOME."

Then I bought T&T when it came out, and luckily my local game store had a few copies of AA as well at that time, so I caught up on all the stuff I missed by jumping in late. :yuusaku:

I have many yaoi OTPs which overlap... And most of which involve the Gavins.
I do write/support yuri and het from time to time though.

Ohhh, man. xD I have an interesting story; it also explains why I love Narumitsu so much.

I had NO interest in jumping on with PW. My friend and I (who I love very very very much) like to play video games together. I think I was playing Harvest Moon and she was playing AA.

So, we'd been quiet for a few minutes, and suddenly she screams, "Oh, my GOD! He is SO gay! Just look at that RUFFLE."

She knows how much I love slash and yaoi and GAY.

I go over and see, yes :edgy: on the screen.

I asked her about it, and she told me about the series and all the, yanno, "unnecessary feelings" moments. Later on, I bought my own copy of the game.

Speaking of which, I JUST LOST THE GAME.

This is really emberassing since I got my first PW game less than a month ago, but... I have absolutely no idea why :D

The PS2 I had then was acting stupid and I was getting irritated on games not working, and for some strange reason that I will never figure out, I went to the game store and turned it in and bought a DS instead. Yes, I didn't buy a new PS2 even if I have 50+ games for it but a DS together with PW:AA and Elite Beat Agents...

I have no idea what flew into my mind to make that descision but I don't regret it at all. I think my idea for picking up PW was something along "Oh, it's that game were you point and yell objection, I feel like something story-heavy".

I'd heard good things about it online, but never really thought to pick it up until around Christmas of '07. See, my parents got me a game (Planet Puzzle League) that, unbeknownst to them, I already owned. Upon me telling them that I already had it, they took me to Gamestop to exchange it for another game. I saw T&T and decided that I wanted it, so I exchanged PPL for it and played it. I loved the crap out of it, and when I saw Apollo Justice I immediately snatched it up. I later ordered AA and JFA. The rest, as they say, is history.

Also, that story about a dog throwing up AA is probably the greatest story ever told.

I saw PW:AA game on Gamefly when it first came out, but none were ever in stock so I never played it. About 2 years later a friend of mine got it and I stayed the night at his house and beat Cases 1-4 in a single night, played Rise from the Ashes the next day and bought JFA the day it came out. I got an R4 sometime later and played T&T Jp and played AJ when it came out. I feel especially guilty for downloading these ROMs, since they really deserve to be compensated for, I'll buy them when I have the money.

First, I'll start with about a month before I got the game.

I was at Gamestop, getting ready to buy Super Smash Brothers Brawl and to sell my brother's game he left over at my house, Mortal Combat. I'm not sure which one it was, but I didn't have a PS2, so I just sold it for about three bucks.

I don't normally buy DS games, but my sister wanted to look around some, and we looked at the shelf with DS games. While browsing, we always make fun of games that look stupid(even though they're probably good, heh heh). We made fun of Cooking Mama, Elite Beat Agents, and a few games based of Disney movies.

Then I scanned a game. It was called Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. I asked my sister what you would do in a game about attorneys. We just made fun of it, bought Brawl, and left.
----
About a month after that, my friend and I were looking at funny videos on youtube, and we came across a lot of videos called Phoenix Wrong. I had forgotten all about seeing Phoenix Wright at the time, so I didn't know what they were about. Needless to say, the videos were funny, and I especially loved all the OBJECTIONS! flying back and forth.

I asked my friend about the game, and he said it was a cool series. He had played a bit of it before. So, after he left, I began to think about it. And then, a few fuses connected in my head.

Isn't this that game that sounded stupid at Gamestop? I asked myself. I immediately went onto my computer and went to Gamefaqs. I read some reviews, and they had nice things to say about the game. I also went onto Youtube and looked at a trailer for the game.

The next day, I got twenty bucks out of my hidden stash and went back to Gamestop(which is a real pain, as it's two towns away from me) and purchased the first game in the series.
----
When I arrived back home, I read the manual(I always do that with every game, cover to cover), took my sister's Pokémon Pearl out of the DS and put in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. I enjoyed the game from the very first case, and finished it after about a week.

Just recently, I beat Justice for All. I'll probably be getting Trials and Tribulations this weekend.
----
This just goes to show you can't judge a book, or a game, by it's cover.
