When I Die
Apollo Justice had attempted to get Trucy Wright to talk to him about the murder of her father at least a dozen times now. Every time he tried, he would be shoved away and told that the conversation was unnecessary, because she was fine. Everything was just fine. And every time he tried, Apollo would become more desperate to get her to talk.
Apollo had never known his father. He didn't even know whether he was dead or alive; Trucy hadn't known either when Zak Gramarye had gone missing for seven years, only to return to get smashed over the head with a grapejuice bottle. The only difference was that Trucy had spent eight years with her father, and Apollo hadn't spent a single year with his, and even if he had, he couldn't remember a thing. And so Apollo worried about her constantly, afraid that it would all send her spiraling into depression. He thought her situation was a million times worse than his, and it had sent him down that road so many times in the past.
Two months after Trucy had been told the truth, Apollo woke up in the office to see her making breakfast, humming happily as she did so. He sat up and rubbed his eyes tiredly, noticing that Mr. Wright was out of the office again. Deciding that this was a good chance to get Trucy to talk because Mr. Wright wouldn't be there to interupt them, he said, "Trucy... I think we need to talk."
She stopped what she was doing, and peered over at Apollo, frowning. "For the last time, Apollo, I'm fine!"
"Yeah, and everytime I said that, I really wasn't," he replied quietly, aware of the fact she had called him by his real name. She only did that when she was angry with him, and it saddened him to think this was going to be another failure.
Leaving the stove, she headed over to Apollo's bed and crossed her arms. "Well, that's you! Why can't you leave me alone about it!?"
"It's just... How can you be so happy after what happened? You're acting like it never really happened at all..."
"Polly, of course I'm sad about it and I miss him, but... before Daddy left, he promised me he would see me again! And he hasn't broken that promise, Polly! I've accepted... that he's... gone, but when I die too, I'll see him again! I know I'll see him again... in Heaven. Someday. And I won't fear death. Because I'll know that. I'll be fine, like I am now. Until then..." She stopped, looking around the room. Grabbing her magician's outfit, she held it up for Apollo to see and said, "...I'll follow in his footsteps. So he knows he's never alone while he's waiting for me."
