Hey,
After finishing the game I wonder if the game has a central theme to it running through the cases, i dont mean how the cases link together per se (4-4) but with the defendants. All the defendants in the game may not be guilty of the CRIME accused of, but it shows no one is what they seem and they may be guilty of something else.
Think about it:
Phoenix - not guilty of murder, but forged evidence (4-1)
Wocky - not actually guilty but intended to kill the doctor and had a motive too. Pat wasnt entirely innocent, neither was Alitia (obviously). (4-2)
Machi - not guilty of murder but guilty of smuggling (4-3)
Vera - Not guilty of poisoning but guilty of forgery (4-4)

Kristoph - a lawyer who turns out to be a villain. Clever.
Nick and Maya - Friends and Lovers....

If it were me, I'd say the theme of the game is showing that absolutely no one is entirely guilt-free.
If videogames make murderers, then guns kill people and spoons made Rosie O'Donnell fat.

The theme of AJ is that the whole "believing in your client and pursuing the truth no matter what" stuff you learned in the first three games is a load of shit and the judicial system is so screwed up that you pretty much need to forge evidence to get justice.

Haha, quite a good basis for the next game.

This.

And that the law isn't absolute. (Hence the Jurist System, where you don't need absolute proof.)

I think it was about the changing nature of the law a la the Judge's speech at the end of the final case.

I did spot that all of Apollo's clients were criminals in their own ways, which makes me pity the poor fellow. 'Why can't I ever get a normal client?' indeed.

The theme of AJ is that Zak Gramarye is a dick.

This.

And that even a well deserved happy end can be ruined, because the creators can do anything.

I think of the theme has something to do with "darkness," as Phoenix isn't the only one that mentions this. Klavier and Eldoon do too, I believe.

I guess it would go with the whole idea that none of Apollo's clients were completely innocent.

The theme of AA4 is that deus ex machinas don't *always* have to happen.

But Mr. Hat does.
