Talking about PWLib Unleashed, I'm thinking on start to design it and prepare a final version of the index.

Just in case, I want everyone who want to help to post their interest here. This will speed up the creation of the book once 1.2 development cycle completes.

OK.

I'll wait a bit to finish certain things on PWLib and AIGE to begin coding, but the thing I need now is to define a nice, good layout for the pages.

The KSA Technology server is back online.

There was a power outage earlier and the router swapped my internal network ips between my server pc and my notebook. It's fixed now.

I think i'll post the credits screens i did for the Mio Demonstration Game.

I have been using PWLib in a nutshell to try to learn how to use PWLib for a few weeks now, and have made what I think to be good progress. I have learnt how to do everything relating to the courtroom, with the exception of amending testimony. I am yet to try my hand at investigations, but I will start on that soom.

Anyway, my reason for making this post is, I have made a small test-game which I have been working on for the past few weeks. I would appreciate it if someone could take a look at it and offer some advice in regard to the code and the general "flow" of it; the way text, sound, and expressions are used, etc. Oh, and please don't bother commenting on the story/writing. I know how bad it is.

Anyway, here it is: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LD6X5Y2A

- (AIGE) Added the setsoundvolume command that allows defining the volume of all 4 sound lines on AIGE (bgm, amb, sfx and mtb).
Also implemented a way to get this value from the system. The sound is defined from 0.0 to 1.0, so a 50% volume is 0.5.

Okay, uh, that was pretty crazy, but I won't dwell on the writing. A lot of your text is going off the edge after the opening, and uh... you might want to put the music in a "music" folder, rather than with the SFX the "sounds" folder. You seem to have made this pretty well otherwise. And here's a tip: instead of editing startup.aigehls, you can just put your game file in the auto folder, and it will load automatically.

Just played it.

Some advices:

- Put the pwlib initialization in a way that it is run only once, such as:

[game]
runscript("pw_initpwlib");
...
jumptoscript("run");

[run]
<code here>
...

- Try to avoid the black lower screen by hiding the previous screen type and showing the new one soon after.

- Also using the startup file is the more professional way to make a script with AHLSL. The auto is an alternative for those who are begining to develop with PWLib.

-----------------------------------------------------
Finally ran 1.1 on my pc after a long time. Will update the game to 1.2 and test it with the latest version.

--------------
Updated to 1.2 and a function wasn't found: pw_useblackbg
I don't reclal if I added it, but just to be sure: you added it to the pwlib core or it was present already? If it was, I will add it immediately.

Whoops! I forgot that I modified the core. I guess this is one of those "It seemed like a good idea at the time" moments, huh?

Code:
[pw_useblackbg]
loadtexture(-621,"PW\bg\black.png");
setbg(-621);
setvar([pw_currentbackground],-621);
setbgsizefromtexture();

I actually put this in before I figured out how to use the fade effects for getting a black background.

But on 1.2, the -621 is already taken, so I'm using -622.

You could just use a blank png, that's what I did for a black bg, and I didn't add it to the core.

You could even use a pixel gfx that the resulting object would be fully black.

I'll use this power of AIGE's render to minimize texture memory usage.

If I recall, Case 1-1 was based upon 1.1 (as DDRKhat said).

But anyway, to run case 1-1 on PWLib 1.1:

-get a fresh "install' of pwlib 1.1 setup-ed.
-depack the case 1-1 files over it.
-put the case1-1.hlsl (the 140k hlsl file) on the auto folder.
-run AIGE.exe.

DDRKhat, let me know if it's the right todo list.

@KSA:
Out of curiosity, I've been wondering, how does saving work in PWLIB? is it only in limited "checkpoints"? (basically is the save anytime feature not there) and if the save anytime feature is there, how does the save compensate for what music is playing (if any)/etc.?

Also, is there a way to define which seconds of a .mp3 file is the "loop" part, or do the sound files have to be split for each on in audacity to remove the fade in/out?

PS: Is Camtasia significantly better than Camstudio (older version w/sound record)+WMM/WME? I also couldn't play your demonstration video with CCCP installed, only audio, and CCCP has FFDShow (unless it's messed up, might have mucked it up while trying to fix a video driver issue).......I don't think that it will be a problem if you just used standard codecs file size wise...or if all else fails, use SUPER. (I'm a newbie/noob in video encoding/computers in general though according to the resident fansubber at my anime club, so I'm probably spouting rubbish)...I've had no problems using Camstudio in making status video's to the only other member of my project who's on a mac and is less computer literate than me (he knows photoshop/cinema4d better than me, so it balanced out)

Saving on 1.1 is "checkpoint" based or you can enabled the quick save feature (need to look on the name of the function now).
But I haven't tested saving extensively on 1.1 (neither 1.2 at this point), so I don't really know if it is 100% reliable.

The "loop definition" is not on PWLib 1.1 (and not yet, at least, on 1.2). I can think about it as I finish some critical new feature for AIGE 0.9.800a.

-------------------
Hmmm, about the camtasia videos, I used camtasia's default codec. And I use pure ffdshow, but I can look into it and see witch video codec it uses.

Thanks, so I'll hold off on asking my friend to split all of the audio files.

On Camtasia, mediainfo gives me TechSmith (co. that made Camtasia) so the reason it shows on your computer without installing a code is probably because Camtasia is there...doesn't give me a name of a codec however. (Unless it is called TechSmith)...I still think using a standard codec shouldn't be a issue for most people file size wise as it is only half a minute worth of video.

Edit: On saving, what key would the player have to press for quick save, or is there a button?

Well, its been two weeks (I think) since the Investigation bg sprite discussion. So here is our winner (by forfit, ie no one else bothered to PM me):

YggdrasilsSword's Mia Investigation bg is the closet this to Capcom's material. However, I think Peter's deserves an honorable mention too:

The pose is just what I had in mind for the bg. However, YggdrasilsSword's bg is the proper quailty. So, either, if not both, should be, in my opinion, added to PWLib.

However, (how many time have I said that?) if YS would be kind enough to take the pose in Peter's bg and then apply his technique to it, then it WOULD be the one worthy of entering into PWLib.

EDIT: Oh I also promise to work CONSIDERABLY on Phoenix tomorrow (well later today since its 1:30), however (#4) NASCAR's Super Bowl, the Daytona 500 is on and I NEVER miss that particular race.
