Hmm... does Grossberg count as a main character? If not, then the Judge. Have him croak or something, he's way too old to still be, er, judge-ing. Or his brother. Yeah, that works, seeing as his only purpose is to act like a total nerd and make fun of Canadians.

Also, I'd add Klavier (because I'm sick of him effectively solving the case for me) and Hobo Phoenix (for being such a jerk in 4-1).
As for the Judge, he's OK, but I'd really like to see someone else passing down verdicts.

For me it's Mia. She was fine as a first case mentor, but after that having her just show up to be "smarter than Phoenix" was a real drag. Since she's a ghost her character doesn't develop and she doesn't have much of a stake in any of the cases other than her desire to see Phoenix win. Even in 2-2 when she SHOULD be emotionally involved she treats it like a learning experience for Phoenix, at the risk of her sister's life!
And it's not like you'd even have to change T&T that much, since even once she's summoned she doesn't really say, do, or resolve anything. Her only big contribution was writing the letter to Maya, which Maya could have thought up by herself (and in fact wouldn't that be nice for Maya's development?). Flashback cases are one thing, but once she was dead she should have stayed dead IMO.
