Maaaaaaaaaaaan, have you seen the cast for the English version of that movie? It's soooooo bad. It's like some Jonas brother, a Cyrus sibling and Tina Fey. It has Liam Neeson, but there's only so much he can do.

I haven't seen all of the Studio Ghibli movies, but I looove Howl's Moving Castle. I also really like Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away. I think I'm like, the only person who doesn't like Princess Mononoke... I guess it's because I hate gory stuff... I'm really squeamish when it comes to blood :shy:

Well at least your excuse is acceptable. Also, I pretty much like every Ghibli film, theres still some I haven't seen yet like Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday, Pom Poko, Whisper of the Heart & My Neighbours The Yamadas.

The first Ghibli movie I recall watching, like most people on here, was Spirited Away. Oh MAN I love that movie. I cosplayed as Chihiro the first time I went to AX~ I decided to watch other Ghibli films afterwards, and I loved My Neighbor Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle. I tried to watch Whisper of the Heart by renting it from the library, but it froze near the beginning and they charged me seven bucks even though it was only a day late and it didn't even work D: it wasn't my fault, I sweeeear. *sigh* Oh, and I watched Kiki's Delivery Service too =D I think disney's done a pretty good job at dubbing some of these movies... ok, actually the only one I watched originally in english was Spirited Away, but hearing Lilo's voice for Chihiro's character just seemed to fit... I honestly prefer the english to the Japanese because of her voice, but that's just me.

That pretty much goes against Miyazaki's entire style-what about san, chihiro, or that chick from howl (who I don't care about)? If there's one thing he tries to stay away from, it's generic weak females.

Whisper of the Heart is my favorite movie (of his, and one of my favorite in general). Has a lot of charm, and it is very sweet. A good coming-of-age movie that when I first saw it, I was convinced of his genius.

yeah, I love whisper of the heart-it's really charming and warm. It wasn't actually directed by Miyazaki though, he assisted with the script and you can see his influence all over it. The director was Yoshifumi Kondō-his first and last film, since he died of heart problems soon after. It's too bad because he had so much potential.

As for Miyazaki flicks, I grew up with them and they are still some of the best anime out there. Mononoke is a masterpiece and will always be my favorite, but spirited away is right up there as well. I feel like he's slowed down recently with Howl, since I didn't feel that usual charm of his in that movie.

Has anyone seen ponyo? I love his epic-scale pictures, but loved stuff like totoro when I was younger too.

I've also seen
-Kiki's Delivery Service

I've heard of Spirited Away from long ago, but I think it was some time late last year or early this year that I was able to watch it. And ever since, I've been a fan of Ghibli. My favorites have to be Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. Princess Mononoke was incredible art-wise, but the story was sort of meh for me, so I don't think it's as awesome. xD

If you're in for a real tear-jerker, you should really watch Grave of the Fireflies. It's a really sad story. :acro:

I tried watching Castle in the Sky but I couldn't sit through it. I thought it was boring. Same with My neighbor Totoro, but I think I was multitaking so I didn't get to enjoy the movie as much as I wanted to.

I've just started discovering their films myself. I've only seen three so far, but I really enjoyed them. They are: The Cat Returns, Whisper of the Heart, and Pom Poko (my favourite of the three). Yeah I know, I'm a n00b, I haven't seen Spirited Away or anything like that, but I do plan on getting it on DVD soon. I've decided that I'm going to collect the "Studio Ghibli collection" DVDs.

The first Ghibli movie I saw was Spirited Away ... someone in my family got it on DVD because of all the hype it was getting and obviously I don't have to tell you guys that I loved it. ;] I've also seen Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, and Howl's Moving Castle. Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are my faves, but it's been a little while since I've seen any Ghibli movies so I need to refresh my memory about some of them. =P

Studio Ghibli is win. :] Kiki's Delivery Service was the first one I watched so I have a soft spot for that. I don't know what I saw next, but in Freshman year I chose Miyazaki's movies as a subject for a project on Japanese culture and used it as an excuse to watch nearly all of them. And Grave of the Fireflies. :keiko:

I hadn't heard of the English cast for Ponyo, and in fact, I didn't really like it as much as the others, but really. A Jonas brother and a Cyrus sister as the two main characters? Disgrace!

I saw Whisper of the Heart today.

It was... mediocre. The plots went everywhere, and there were lots of plots. Though I do have a soft spot since the main character seemed like a Japanese, female version of me.

...mm. Japanese, female version of me...

My first Ghibli film was Princess Mononoke which I saw in the theatre. It was an incredible piece of art and had left the deepest impression on me amongst all Ghibli works to this day. My other favorites are Spirited Away (beautiful) and Whisper of the Heart (warm and touching). Also like Totoro a lot, it's a very charming film, and it's got one of my favorite soundtracks. My least favorite is Pom Poko, it's just too weird (and long) for my taste. Haven't seen My Neighbor the Yamadas yet, and a few others. All in all Ghibli (and Miyazaki) sure produces some amazing works!

I'm bumping this because I saw Ponyo.

And uh... maybe it's just me and my family but I don't think this movie made any sense. At all. It was still pretty epic I think with awesome images, and colors, and adorableness. But we walked out of the theater (after laughing hysterically at the end credits song) and looked at each other and asked "Wait... what the fuck just happened?"

So yeah um... not my favorite Miyazaki film.

I sort of agree. ^_^;; I mean, it was cute and all, and had a nice little story but... it wasn't nearly as moving as the other Miyazaki films I've seen. I still liked it, but I definitely like movies such as Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle over it. Plus, some parts were just... well, sort of cheesy. >_>

Agreed. There always seems to be that underlying meaning in Miyazaki films that you won't usually get the first time.

I watched Ponyo yesterday, got myself a nice torrent; Japanese with subsDONTJUDGEME!! ;_; *ehem* Anyhoo... Yeah, I got the exact same impression I get when I first watched Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away; I thought everything crumbled towards the end, like the pacing was too fast or rushed. But I dunno, I might just not get what the movie is trying to say right now. I should watch it again some time.

Yes, definitely! In order of favoritism, these are the ones I've seen:

Howl's Moving Castle
Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke
My Neighbor Totoro
Nausicaa: Princess of the Valley of the Wind
The Cat Returns
Castle in the Sky
Porco Rosso
Castle of Cagliostro
Kiki's Delivery Service

and I have yet to see Ponyo, Grave of the Fireflies, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Whisper of the Heart, and a few others. Some of those I just mentioned are Ghibli but Miyazaki, btw. :)

and yeah, HMC seemed a bit rushed, but I still luff it to death. And I had huge crushes on Howl and Haku, and a bit on Ashitaka, when I first saw them. My favorite character out of all of them is San (aka Princess Mononoke), and Calcifer is a close second. And the Totoros, Susuwatari, and Kodama are SO KAWAII!!!!!:)

I love Ghilbi films!! I have to say that Princess Monoke followed by Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are my three favourites.

Ponyo recently came out here in Australia and I got a free ticket to go see it (Japanese with English subs) but I sadly couldn't make it that night :sadshoe: So now I am eagarly awaiting the DVD release!
