Went to see UP last night, and in my opinion I'd have to say this is probably Pixar's best yet.
Visually gorgeous, and the cast of characters were great. I especially loved the dog, Dug.

Plus, I was super excited to see the trailer for Disney's Princess and the Frog which is coming out later this year. :D

So, what's everyone else's thoughts/opinions?

After hearing how amazing it is from everyone, I have to see it. Apparently it's replacing Wall-E as people's new favorite Pixar film (from the tons of people I know who are obsessed over Wall-E).

Really, all everyone seems to be doing is saying that Cars sucked because everyone else does :<

When first-party Disney releases a 3D movie better than a Pixar film, that's a bad Pixar film.

Cars was like the "marketable" Pixar movie. It's of note that it's still really popular with kids, probably will be for a while. This alone doesn't make it bad, in fact it's actually one of the few redeeming things about it. It feels far, far more soulless than any other Pixar film to date.

Well, maybe it's just that I started to love vistas of canyonish America after TF2 that made it good for me. The landscape is lovely in Cars, and they were sure to emphasize on it. I liked it :<

I saw Up last night! :D

It was really good. Had a lot of heart. :) It felt short, though. (and it actually was, being around an hour and a half long)

It's a real feel good movie. People should bring their grandparents to go see this. The old men are badass. :D

Up was fantastic. I went to see it and I actually cried. :acro: It was very touching

Spoiler: Spoilers for Up
BTW did anyone else think that the bad guy was one of the most evil bad guys Pixar/Disney has ever done? XD He shot at a little kid and tried to stab an old man! lol

I really liked Cars. I thought it was very cute and very funny. Of course, it was really fun to watch it with my dad, who could name almost every car and understood almost every reference made in the movie XD I dunno, I like almost any Pixar film. I didn't like Ratatouille that much but that was only because I had too high expectations, so... >.>

I really enjoyed UP. It made me feel incredibly emotional for some reason. Both my sister and I cried! xD It was really funny too.

Though, I have to say; I didn't really like Cars either. It's definitely my least favorite of Pixar's films, and it's the only one that I've never watched more than once. I dunno. I guess it didn't grab me as much as the others? Either way, I should probably give it a rewatch eventually.

I assure you, Tinker, I didn't even know other people didn't like Cars. That post above was merely my own opinion. But yeah to give you an idea, Cars is the only Pixar film I've only seen once, so... yeah. I just didn't find the plot or characters as memorable as their others. *shrug*

I haven't seen Ratatouille yet, but right now, my least favorite Pixar movie is Cars. One main reason: Larry the Cable Guy. Ohhhh mah god I can't stand him... They had to put in "Git 'er done!!" in there which made me cringe like no other DX

I've actually found The Incredibles to be great. I think Pixar had actually outdone themselves. Syndrome was a brilliant character. I always kind of wished they would have made a sequel to that movie, but it's probably better left as is, then again, I don't think Pixar would screw it up if they did.

Also, to stay on topic, it's good to see that this movie is getting some great response, but I had no doubt. Just sucks that I'll have to wait a while to see it.

I've never actually seen Cars, and have no real desire to.

My Latin teacher is utterly obsessed with UP, and my parents are utterly obsessed with Pixar in general (and yes, I adore it too), so I'm definitely gonna see it at some point.

In terms of a sequel, I dunno; Toy Story 2 felt really forced for me. I think I would've enjoyed Toy Story more had Toy Story 2 not come to fruition. On the other hand, the Incredibles are typical comic heros, a new villain a new plot and you're good to go without questions, regardless of series.

Actually, why am I bringing this up? The Incredibles is the only Pixar movie I could see a sequel working, and working well.

I watched Up a few days ago on my parents' anniversary. I loved it so much, it made me cry, and then it made me laugh with tears coming out of my eyes. XD Yay for old people as the main characters hahaha. I was talking about this movie with my friend the other night who was telling me how some people were posting in forums how they couldn't believe Pixar would

Spoiler:
include adult topics like miscarriage and death and how it's not suitable for children. Seriously.. tons of Disney movies address death so I don't know what they're complaining about. Can anyone say Bambi?? >_>

Frankly, I think their adult themes add a lot of depth to their movies and what sets them apart from generic 3D movies. I've watched tons of animated films over the years and Pixar's definitely have the most soul in them. I hope they never lose sight of their direction.

For those who haven't seen it, go watch it now! :edgy:

Children's movies should always contain adult themes. That's what they were made for in the first place.

I think I'm more sensitive than you guys or something, because I started crying about a minute in, realizing what was going to happen. And then every time Ellie opened her mouth I started tearing up. And then from there it went downhill for my tear ducts and I really wish I hadn't gone to the 3D showing, since I kept having to take off my glasses lest they get covered in tears

The dogs were horrible, to be honest, and I was almost infuriated as I left that they were in it. They felt like some sort of afterthought and were kind of completely Un-Pixar to me, from the jokes to the way they looked (Dug aside). I can't help but feel that they were forced on the film to make it more appealing to children?

Those first twenty minutes alone were some of the greatest scenes Pixar has ever created and alone made the film incredible for me.

I was crying too, it's a very emotional movie.

Really? I loved the dogs! I thought they were random, but I thought it added to it. The movie seemed a little random in its moments, but that was the charm for me. I adored the dogs, but honestly the reason they were really funny was because of an inside joke in my family about dogs that the movie brought up that left me laughing my butt off (looooong story. Let's just say it's not the first time I've heard "Blah blah blah SQUIRREL! Blah blah" lol)

And I really think the adult themes were tactfully put in. They're very very important lessons to teach kids; and I mean, if parents are so worried about showing it to their kids, it's their responsibility to screen the stuff their kids watch. I'm just very tired about parents complaining about the mature themes found on TV. They should be able to just turn off the TV or not let them see something if they really do object to it :yuusaku: They're PARENTS for gosh sakes!!
I'm not saying I think parents should not let their kids see certain shows, I mean I don't think they're THAT bad, but if they're complaining this much about it, then they should be able to control their children. Just MHO :\

Hear hear!

Though I thought the dogs were pretty darn funny. Their 'thoughts' just seemed so natural and doglike and yet so silly to hear them actually said aloud.

I agree. I thought Pixar handled the talking dogs concept in a universe where animals don't talk very well, and I like how they didn't elevate their intelligence to that of a human's. Honestly, this is how I'd totally imagine a normal dog's thinking process.. we just can't hear it. XD

And I also agree about the first 20 minutes... or however long the scenes with Ellie was. I was one of the many people crying in the theater after that.

I saw the movie yesterday. I never get emotional when I watch a movie. And having had taken Script Writing and Broadcast classes in College I generally find myself analyzing the movie as opposed to actually enjoying the movie. That said, there were at least two moments when I had to really 'FIGHT' to hold myself together. I never got to the point where I shed a tear, but my eyes were so full of water it took every measure of self control to keep it that way. If the scenes revolving around Carl and Ellie were any longer, I'm sure I would've turned into a balling mess.

(Uhhmm, possible spoilers below I guess?)

I was already tearing up in the beginning, especially when Ellie died - and afterward, when Carl continued talking to her, even though she was gone. Then I was practically bawling when villain main set his house on fire. ;_; The expression on his face...

That said, I haven't cried during a movie in ages. It was beautiful, adorable, and I loved it. <3

http://gizmodo.com/5297187/pixar-grants ... -to-see-up
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/pixa ... -home-show

To summarize, a 10-year old girl suffering from terminal vascular cancer had a last wish to see Pixar's UP. But her condition became too unstable for her to go to the theater. Her Mom called Pixar fumbled though the answering machine service and low and behold a Pixar employee rushed over with a DVD. a poster, and some toys featuring the characters. She couldn't actually watch the movie due to the pain, so her Mom gave her a blow by blow description of what happened. She died 7 hours after watching the movie.

The Pixar employee left with the DVD but among the items he left was an Adventure Book, such as the one featured in the movie. Her mom is quoted as saying that she'll need to fill it in for her daughter.

My goodness, I was so close to crying in the theater, and here I am again. What's with you UP and making me emotional!?

Just saw it tonight and I absolutely loved it. It was amazing.

I actually almost cried in the beginning and haven't done so since the beginning of Finding Nemo. I felt so heartbroken and sad for Carl. I do agree that the dogs were a little silly, but they were ok at some points. I did find the villain a little interesting, yet a bit psychotic. Killing others just for the sake of wanting to catch something because people didn't believe in his accomplishments. Kind of sad to see Carl's heart broken when he saw his hero. I also found a few of the scenes between Carl and Russel very touching, especially when touching on the family aspect as well as helping Carl to remember his past and why he did things in the first place. The ending pretty much left me with a saddened face and a happy smile as it was just so heartwarming seeing Carl and Russel doing things together.

Overall, I think Pixar did great, and I am interested in seeing Disney's new animated movie. It's about time they went back to their old traditional ways instead of releasing junk based off of their "hit" shows and just random mess. I just hope it won't be a total flop.

I thought UP was definitely the best Pixar movie yet. Dug was my favorite character. I saw it in 2-d, but I keep hearing that it is so much better in 3-D.

Personally, I thought Cars was also one of Pixar's better movies. But, I am a big fan of Larry the Cable Guy, and I am a Nascar fan, so that may have influenced my enjoyment slightly.

I'm probably going to get bashed for saying this, but I couldn't stand Wall-E. Seriously, that movie was so incredibly boring to me. That is one of only two times I have waned to get up and leave during a movie. The other: The Love Guru.
