I know, some people are going to be like, "What? In real life?" Let me explain through a long drawn-out story lol
Two months before I ever picked up my first copy of what would become my current video game obsession (*cough*AA*cough*), my family had gone to Japan for vacation. There, I had seen many objects that were magatama shaped. When I asked my bro (who knows a lot about Japanese culture) he didn't know but said he thought it was the "emperor's jewel" or something.
I'd finally found a little shop that sold actual necklaces that looked like the Magatama. I had gotten one made of amethyst because I thought it looked pretty.
Then I play AA much later and think, "Hey, Mia is wearing it!" (she was the first character I saw who was wearing it) You can imagine how strange it gets when I find out about the actual name of it (Magatama) and it's spiritual properties. o_O
Anyhow, I can upload pics later if people so desire, but I was wondering: does anyone know in actual Japanese culture what the heck the "Magatama" actually is?
I'm really really sorry if this topic has been made (I looked but didn't see one). I hadn't ever seen anyone use a real magatam for a cosplay so I wasn't sure...

If you really want to find one I'd look on Ebay, that's where I got mine (the seller was selling them for three bucks each, so I got five). Hope I helped in some way...unless of course you already knew where to look and I was spouting useless information =P in which case I hope this helps someone else

If you're looking for real ones, Ebay is a good place. There's one person in California selling them on there. Most are well under 10.00$, and made of glass. The're nowhere near as big as the ones in the game but they are real. Here's some i got from the person (with a penny for size reference):
The opal one i actually wear sometimes (it glows orange when it's backlit). The little blue one is destined for my My Little Pony based on
i'll be making in the future. I allready put one of these blue ones on my Iris MLP (pic's soon) 
. And the green one (though it's not the right shade) will go on my Maya MLP. The yellow jade one is the right color for 
, but it's too big.

Aha, I have one that looks EXACTLY like the green one. Hanging from my neck right now. I, like, don't ever take it off. I feel naked without it. ^^;; Only, I got it from a seller that had them out of actual gemstones. I wish I could remember what mine was...
Funny story: Just after I ordered mine (from eBay) all that time ago, I thought "I have a bunch of stones and shit in my room--I wonder if I already have one?" I went looking, and inside this little tin of pendants (made of natural stone and polished) my aunt gave me, I found a multi-colored earth-tone Magatama. I about died. XD
If I remember correctly, the magatama also looks like a depiction of a soul (head and tail). It's supposed to be worn so that the tail curls in towards the body, so that the spiritual energies can "rotate" from it into your body, then back out, then back in, etc. The energies are related to what the magatama is made out of. Also, Yin-Yang has something to do with it, but I don't remember what.
God...Opal? Really? Opal is a beautiful stone. I'm so happy it's my birthstone. I want an Opal magatama...
