I loved it how it was a joke in 2-1 and how it became serious in 2-4.

It was a joke in 2-1? I thought it was serious in 2-1 too with all that music and such.

It was just a stupid dream. It was really funny (for me) that Nick dreamed such a thing with the giant Judge and all.

The magatama sorta connects all the cases together except 2-1... Nick learns how to use it more during the game.

Yes, JFA has a story.

Spoiler: all 4 cases
2-1: The only thing that I can think of is the dream sequence, which foreshadows 2-4 and the choice Phoenix has to make in that case.
2-2: Plants seeds for the future of the Fey arc. Edgeworth's disappearance is also mentioned.
2-3: Complete filler until they start talking about Edgeworth, it's also revealed that Franziska doesn't care about his father's death, and that the only reason she's out for revenge is because Phoenix took away his inner von Karma. It's also shown that he's still alive at the ending. Berry Big Circus also reappears in the next case.
2-4: Edgeworth returns and the whole "the defendant is innocent" theme gets subverted so that the prosecutor and the defense attorney sort of "switches places". Like I said earlier, they used the dream sequence to tie the beginning to the end, making it seem like the day where Phoenix has to make his choice was predestined to come. The bonus scene with Edgeworth and Franziska also foreshadows 3-5.

So yes, JFA has a story, it's just not as "obvious" as the other games. It is about Edgeworth and Franziska and what it means to be a prosecutor and a defence attorney.

The reason I like this game the most is because it doesn't involve some past incident. That and the fact that the humour and the music is better than in the first game.

I hope you understand my english because I was very tired when I wrote this. :yuusaku:

Deep breaths.

I'm surprised that a few of you don't like JFA. That was the first one I bought and if I didn't like it I might not have bothered getting the rest lol

I liked JFA, but if I had to choose, it would be my least favourite GS-game.

As for the plotline:
Spoiler: JFA
You start off with Phoenix' dream, which has a BIG relation with the end of 2-4. But beside that, it's way more loose plots than the others indeed. There's a storyline, true. But compared to the others it's just not as strong.

Not surprising at all. By the time the hype had ramped up in the US about how good these games were, it was very hard to find the first game. I know -- I saw a ton of good reviews right around the release of JfA, and only saw it in the stores. (and, amusingly enough, by the time I tracked down a copy of PW1, JfA was the one that was hard to find, so I ended up importing it because it was cheaper even with shipping to buy the Japanese greatest-hits version new than a used copy of the US one.)

JfA's my least favorite of the original trio, but it's not because of the lack of connections. Several of my favorite cases are the unconnected (or only loosely connected) ones. I really like 2-3, myself, although I could do without Ben & Trilo. JfA just doesn't have any of my top-top-favorite cases -- I like 2-4, and I see what they were trying to do with the storyline, but it just falls flat for me. And it's shorter (yes, I know 1-5 was added later, but I'm talking about my experience as an American who'd never heard of the series until the DS remakes) than all of the others -- AJ is only four cases but they're longer And it has my least-favorite music. (Note: not saying it's BAD, just least-favorite. Different composers, different styles, not my thing.)

Then again, when I just want to replay a little? I usually end up playing one of the JfA cases because then I don't feel the need to replay the whole game.
