VI- Great Storyline, excellent battle system, cool characters.
VII- ...
VIII- Best battle system for me.
IX- Interesting element, all characters are great.
Let us dye the world in despair, and bring a dismal end to this fairy tale.

I used to only wanna play KH because I heard Squall (er.. sorry. "Leon".) was coming back. (8 was/is my favorite of all) and I was going to see Jack Skellington. *gawd.Mori was a shallow little 15 year old at the time*

But then was disappointed that they were just cameo appearances. D=

Final Fantasy VI sucks ass, much like most of the numbered games. It doesn't deserve any bit of the mass praise it gets.

FFVII and XII were the only numbered ones I really actually liked a lot, and VII only because it was one of my first RPGs alongside Xenogears and Breath of Fire III. :|

It had characters that were interesting. For two seconds. Then they don't develop. By taking the "no main characters" route, it sacrified a lot of could-be development, with the exception of like two people. (EDIT: now that I remember, there were a few characters that had an actual lot of development, but there were still a lot that didn't).

The world also, while at first very charming, soon just gets droll as it becomes massive, yet full of nothing. Every town is the same and there are no NPCs to speak of, besides two other people, and most everybody dies anyways. Kefka is hailed as awesome, yet when people bring up Sephiroth (random example), they hate on the dude for everything that they praise Kefka about. But Hojo is still cooler.

I could go on, but this bores me.

Final Fantasy IX, I couldn't help falling in love with it. xD Sorry people, but I'm friggen a sucker for cutesy romantic stories! Sue me! D:<
I loved all the characters and the cinema scenes. <3 It hold a special place in my heart as one of my favorite games ever. ( V About ending of FF9, don't read if you didn't play it all the way! V)
Spoiler:
The thing I didn't like about IX was the ending! Why didn't they kiss! All they did was embrace, and it was kinda a big let down for me...I want my classic old-movie style kiss! Lol.

But I also really like FF6. I love that game so much, it was one of my 1st RPGs so there is much nostalgia love there. (Had it for SNES, "FF3") My favorite part was the opera adventure with Celes. The acutal recording of her song is really beautiful and I have the 23 minute live opera version that was made from it. ^_^

Go ahead and put 9 down for me! :yogi:

Like...what? Other than liking a good game. I really liked VI. I loved that there were so many characters that each had different side plots. I liked that you got to play through the three different scenarios near the beginning (instead of running around with a group of 7 but only ever seeing 3 at a time. I wish more FF's would create excuses for why only a few people are around at any moment). I liked the battle system, the magicite, the plot. And I especially liked that Terra, in a quest for love, ended up finding it not in romance (though she had several oppertunities) but in motherhood. I thought that was a great touch.

But I also like VII :P. I liked that it was crazy, and the characters were interesting and each got to take the spotlight for a while. It was the first FF I played all the way through, so it'll always have a place on my shelf. But I simply can't play it or any of its crazy side-crap, because the fandom has kind of ruined it for me. That and KH. *shudder*

I really liked IX when I played it, but I don't think it has good staying power. After it was finished I never felt compelled to pick it up again, and I realized that Zidane and Vivi were the only characters I honestly liked, while the rest I just thought were kind of charming but ultimately not that interesting. But I really liked Kuja for some reason.

I tried playing IV and V, but that was years after they first came out, and I couldn't bring myself to give a shit about either. I think some of the early FF games you have to have played when they were new in order to appreciate them. Like III - I picked up the remake because it was really cute, but I really couldn't stand it. Boring and poorly balanced and just plain uninteresting. Sorry Red Mage, I still love you <3

I did like all of those aspects, but by the end of the game, whether or not I liked it to begin with just didn't matter, it had gotten boring and Kefka's Tower just wasn't fun for me, I sort of just gave up for a while, before forcing myself through. So on second-third-whatever thought, my opinions probably were somewhat hasty, but I still prefer FFVII over it, although it probably tops XII.

(Yeah, my opinion is flacid on this. I don't give much thought into Final Fantasy :P)

That's the main reason why I don't like VII as I used to while back.

As for VI, it's a cute game, but as HH mentions, it gets boring after awhile. However, I do adore Celes!

mmm, good question. I'd say.... eh.

It's a choice between several:

1) I was kind of, eh, bland.

2) II was equally as blandish.

3) III was more interesting. But I didn't like the system they had in it, really.

4) IV Now THIS is something. The storyline is NICE, A VERY good final fantasy.

5) V had dragons, so that is a plus side in my book. Else it wasn't that epic. But it had Clash on the Big Bridge, so...

6) VI had several inspiring things. But it was just too frickin' hard to get anywhere in. So no, this isn't it.

7) VII I'm not even going to talk bout.

8) VIII neither.

9) IX was a very interesting game, but I felt something was missing. It really was kind of featureless.

10) X wasn't very good in my opinion. It lacked alot, especially in the character department. Really not anything to talk about.

11) X-2 was a extremely nice improvement over X. It was fun, original, had a fine plot - and style. Something its predecesor lacked.

12) XII was, how do I say it, a slow start. It was hard all the way through, and even if it had a nice story, it wasn't very epic.

13) Final Fantasy: Tactics wasn't really my game. I get stuck early, and the system is far too complicated and put-into-place that it's impossible to play through. The inability to do anything but do missions is something that I basicly lothed in the Fire Emblem series, where you couldn't train your characters. It seems the same in this one, and I really became bored with it fast.

14) Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced sucked. It's really that simple.

So.... I'm stuck between IV, IX and X-2. Mmmm, hard to decide on this one. I guess I had the most fun with IX at the time, so I'll choice that.

Any breath of fire game in it's series is gonna beat all of those, though. With one hand tied to the back and blindfolded.

How exactly can FF1 be 'bland'? It's Final Fantasy 1. It came out 20 years ago. What exactly do you want from it? FMV?

Ehm, well:

15) XI. MMRPG. Enough said.

and for the heck of it,

16) XIII. Playstation 3. Enough said.

And no, 'them being old' is no excuse of being poor. Breath of Fire 1 and the old Mega Man games are STILL bloody old and STILL pwns hard. It's an okay game, but it's extremely bland. I especially hate the mass ammount of walking to get from one point to another in the universes in I and II.

Oh, and I'm not talking about the original Japanese I, if THAT was what you was implying. The one where you were four knights of diffrent colours in some maze and went to some crystal thing.... Very weird.

You know something speaks to me there... but I am on my second play-through. That thing about only REALLY liking a few characters is probably right. Yet, for myself, I'd end up saying that about any Final Fantasy so IX still firmly takes place as my favorite.

I agree with Croik on IX, and I think that is something that goes through all Final Fantasy games. Play it once, never to try it again. The only game I honestly went through more than once was Final Fantasy X-2. Another reason why I like it.

No offense Mikker, but you're the first person I know of to complain about the game being "too hard" (not in terms of the story, anyway). It's certainly not impossible to play. I've beaten it 4 or 5 times now. :shoe:

And it's nothing like Fire Emblem - you can do all sorts of grinding and side missions. There are random battles, optional dungeons, and even the propositions in chapter 2.

I can understand not liking the game, but being no good at it isn't the same as it being a bad game. :yogi:

I never got past the second mission before I put away the controller and gave up, so that's probably true :gant:

I just said it wasn't MY game. If I get irretated by a game, this happens alot, I put it away. It's really that simple. I get ticked off by games that are too hard, and if there are no cheats I won't be able to get to all the 'good stuff' in the game.

Oh, and I HATE doing the same thing twice, so if I complete 98% of some level, and it throws be back to start because of some random death, then I ALSO put it away. Because I don't want to go through the hassle all over again. If I get stuck this way, I wait for an emulator to come out that can play it, and use its save states. I managed to get through all the NES games I couldn't previosly complete through this.

I also hate being forced to use limited resources, so I suck at pretty much ALL real time strategies. I havn't completed any of the warcraft/starcraft games or command and counquer (except Tiberian Sun) without cheating.

Final Fantasy Tactics I just got cross about spending so much time in the tutorial and not getting how to enter the mission correctly. And I also find it too slowly paced. And the beginnings too hard. Final Fantasy 6 I got bored of leveling and hence got stuck on that floating platform. And theres alot of problems in pretty much all the Final Fantasy games that irritates me alot. Final Fantasy XII had such a terribly slow pace as well. You had to spend eons leveling up in order to face even the weakest of bosses, and if you play in order to get through the storyline, you'd be very irretated by the crude stop in things. But after a certain point, it changes to the reverse being true, I think it's about 50-60, dunno. At this point, levels won't be as important as equiptent and spells. Still important, but it hasn't the same effect.

So yeah, that's just my opinion, really. Feel free to think differently.

And yes, I'm still getting Trauma Center, and yes I know how that doesn't really make sence with that rant.

For the final fantasy games:

I : Got sick of walking arround and leveling. Didn't feel compelled to continue on.

II : Got sick of walking arround and leveling. Didn't feel compelled to continue on.

III : Got sick of walking arround and leveling. Didn't feel compelled to continue on.

IV: Got sick of leveling. Got stuck at last boss.

V: Got sick of walking arround and leveling. Didn't feel compelled to continue on.

VI: Got sick of leveling. Got stuck at floating island.

VII: Havn't played.

VIII: Havn't played.

IX: Completed. Whoo!

X: Completed. Whoo!

X-2: Completed TWICE. Whoo!

XII: Completed. Whoo!

Final Fantasy Tactics: Irratated me. Didn't feel compelled to try again.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced: Got sick of walking arround and leveling. Didn't feel compelled to continue on.

I don't like FF1. But then, I don't like any RPGs from that era. Even Wizardry hadn't hit its stride.

Anyway. 12 is the best. It'd be godlike if it stopped trying to be FF and went pure dungeon crawling: the half-baked story and characters are really freakin' annoying.

Well I more or less disagree with everything you said so I'm not going to continue this.

That's a great way to incite discussion.

Anyway. 12 is the best. It'd be godlike if it stopped trying to be FF and went pure dungeon crawling: the half-baked story and characters are really freakin' annoying.

Wait, you mean there's a story to 12?

It's a HELL lot more of a story than in FF1!

It had a pretty good one, IMO. I actually enjoyed it. FF1 was just a lame excuse. I'm surprised 8 bit theater got anything out of that.

I can't help but agree with Mikker on this one.
