I know, you're right, but I'm so busy as of late, and don't really have the time to do so anymore. Anyways, piano is quite enjoyable for me, but it's just a hobby. I don't really want a diplomacy in music.

I want to pick up the accordion. However, there aren't that many fairly priced accordions in my area. One of my friends was suggesting craigslist. I'm going to ask for one on my birthday. Beirut is being my main inspiration right now.

I'm learning how to play rock guitar because I wanna be more flexible in our band. I'm already a drummer and backup vocalist, so learning the notes and chords for the guitar is a lot harder than I thought. It kinda contradicts the style I have for drumming, but I figure I'll still stick to learning it anyways.

I once thought the same thing when I tried guitar after years of flailing my arms behind the kit. Now I can play stuff like Master of Puppets and Hangar 18. 8D

It's really just a matter of getting down and practicing. Things like Guitar Pro also help loads for learning songs.

Well, I know how to play the violin and the clarinet. Maybe the basics of playing a guitar... and learning how to shut boys out of the practice rooms.

I play the trumpet and have been doing so far a while. The only problem I find with it is sustaining high notes for a long period of time, which my music teacher always comments on.

I also did vocals for who knows how long, 6 years if I remember correctly.

Yeah, those high notes are a pain sometimes...

I definitely don't consider myself a good singer, but I may have to provide backing vocals for our band soon, which slightly worries me.

I always wanted to learn cello or violin, but apparently I'm too old to do that now. No one will give me lessons because "you must start at a young age cause you'll never learn it if you don't". Annoyiiing... It's not like I want to make a career out of it, I just want to learn it for fun. D: I tried to get into a music school some years back, but they wouldn't take me in cause they didn't have open slots for people from my town. Yes, they had open slots, they just didn't want me cause I lived in the wrong place. Nice. : D

I do play some guitar though. And I sing. I'd like to take singing classes but I'd have to learn to read sheet music and such before anyone will take me into their classes.

...thus I gave up on everything and thought "Maybe I'll start dancing."

I'd love to get singing lessons but it's so darn expensive! My friend's dead set on forming a "band", which means I'll either have to sing or play my flute, neither of which I'm very confident about. I have zero confidence on my flute, even though I've been playing it for nearly nine years....

Ah I know what you mean. I think I paid...AUD$250 a year for singing lessons for 6 years and that's not counting Trumpet lessons. It is quite expensive but I learned quite a few techniques that I've been able to apply to the Trumpet as well.

Don't let you being not so confident about singing or playing the flute affect you wanting to be in a band. If you really want to need to work on is practise. In my school band, I still can't sustain high notes for a long time so I stuff up a few times but I keep on trying. You might stuff up a few times and get embarrassed but it's natural to make those mistakes. As long as you have fun, then that's all that matters.

((Sorry if this doesn't make any sense. It's late at night and I'm sleepy...))

I'd love singing lessons as well. In my school, anyone who does music gets a choice to learn the piano, guitar or singing. It's great, the classes are a fiver once a week, so most of us do them. The only thing is, I'm doing guitar, so they won't let me do singing. =[

I'd say you'd be good at the flute, especially if you've been doing it for so long, so don't worry.

Ah, our tuba and trumpets are sometimes the most annoying in the whole band. And the clarinets have a habit of locking people out of the band room if they're coming in from Tech Ed.

Well, on a clarinet, the higher you go, you need thicker reeds. I use a 2 1/2 and 3s for my instrument. I can sustain a high G for a long time though, about like 15 or more seconds before I need to breath.

Yeah. I just keep practising high notes and holding them all the time to help. Unfortunately, the Trumpet is an octave higher than all the other brass instruments in the family, meaning that you have to go pretty high.

Violin third position kills you. Then there positions all the way up to eighth, so don't complain much. And unfortunately, my school band doesn't have flutes. :P

Guitar is so much nicer b/c the frets are there. Besides that, I don't see why one position should be so much more difficult. (I mean, I know it's annoying going up positions, but going up one fret or a few never made too much of a difference for me.) Anyway, nothing can come close to piccolo embrouchre. (...Except maybe fife embrouchre.)

So your band just has piccolos? :yuusaku:

Forget them! You're never too old to learn an instrument. :minuki:

Anyways, I've been playing viola for about four months now. I'm not very good, considering I'm still a beginner, but it's extremely fun. I've been hoping to find someone to teach me how to sing, but I haven't had any success yet. I've also been playing guitar for three years, but I suppose that's cheating considering how little I've been playing lately.

I'm two weeks into violin lessons and I'm loving it so far, even though I'm sure the neighbors want to break in and kill me for the noises I'm subjecting them to. I haven't played music since piano lessons in second grade, so it's a pretty new and exciting experience. I really want to learn to do neat bluegrass fiddling stuff.

The hard part was finding a teacher willing to take on an adult beginner, but the guy I found is awesome.

I'm super intimidated by the five year old in the schedule before me, though. I must get better than her!

*Snickers* Kind of reminds me of my teacher. He teaches adults and kids like me. (I'm in middle school by the way.) And there are adults in our beginner class. I'm in Level Two though.

Haha, this thread reminds me of this song
Quote:
Just get you a guitar and learn how to play
Cut up some jeans, come up with a name
When you’re living in a world that you dont understand
Find a few good buddies, start a band
Start a band, Start a band

Well, i've always wanted to play the Banjo, but I can't afford one, and I don't know where to find one.
So, all I have is a harmonica that a friend gave me a long time ago.
I'd like to learn how to play it, it sounds like an accordeon.

I've played alto saxophone since 2008. I'm not that good but I'm getting there. In a year I'll be learning to improvise (yay!)
My classmates started a band, and gave me a big NO when I asked if I could get in :(
