Hilarious. And I wrote that Grind post AFTER multiple occurences of stupid Eri being stupid and not making the dang connection (she said it once! As a joke! Jeez...) and I decided to purposefully unlock an early ending where Tei apparently drugged her SO MUCH (or something new) that she lost her memories AND the ability to use her voice. (And then made her work at Banjul with him. A mute person, working as a waitress. That makes sense.)
Seriously, Tei's route has taken the subtelty from the previous two routes I've done and all gloves are off. Everything is being made more obvious. Where's the fun in that? (And if they are revealing so much in his route, why would I still go through Red's route, which is the last route to unlock... unless a sixth route unlocks featuring the ??? Narrator, which I suspect will happen)

@Planetbox- Yeah I've heard a lot of complaints from people who can't handle the bullet hell mechanics (though I've considered them quite light) but the pacification puzzles make me think about games in a whole new light.

Um... aside from actually showing blood - on a person or dripping down a weapon, but no actual wounds - and only having endings where someone has to die, Xillia 2 is not all that dark. That doesn't make a game dark.
Sure, the game goes also into the multiverse theory and has Ludger destroy those dimensions, for the sake of saving the prime one, but... well, you don't do anything with that. You could have gone much more in-depth into it, rather than relegate it to the side for the Origin's Trial bla bla going on. Which, frankly, seems to contradict the game and makes me wonder if you had any idea what to do for the plot of this game. You bring an Alternate Dimension's version of a character into the Prime Dimension... but you don't do anything with it! Here and there, very early on, Alt Milla may make a mention of "I can't believe you use this so freely...", but you barely allow me to feel how she must feel about this.
Think about it! She's in a dimension completely different from hers, she cannot go home and she knows no-one in this world, except the party. And half of them are awkward or distant around her, because they only see or think of Milla and not Alt Milla. It'd be interesting to have her Character Episodes focus on... you know, trying to learn about this world, maybe. What does she think of a world with no Shell? She sees things working and not-working well in this new world, but she never wonders if she could have done the same in her own world. She doesn't try to get to know the party, the world she's in or... or anything! Her two Character Episodes revolve around cooking and being nice to Elle.
And this isn't even getting into the fact that your Debt System causes such major pacing issues, I have no reason or time to feel bad for what's going on.
Face it, Namco. Your 'darkest entry yet' is not that dark. Abyss was much darker.

See, I barely registered the Xillia cast's reaction to things, because they barely serve much of a purpose in the story. They are there for fanservice and Character Episodes that don't properly tie into the plot - Oh, sure, doing them may result in a Bonus Scene part during a plot event, but they don't do much. It's cool to see Jude have a say in matters, but what about much later on, when we go to save Elle and the Bonus: Milla scene is... Elle saying she's also happy that this Milla came to rescue her? I understand the implication being that she got over her snit that Milla got rid of 'her' Alt Milla, but still...
Then again, Xillia 2 has a lot of writing problems. As for the consequences of destroying fractured dimensions... I think Leia was the one who showed the most realization about what that meant: effectively killing millions of people. The rest know that, too, but it's kind of ignored. I might understand it as "Too painful, let's not think about it". But this might also tie into the fact that Ludger is a silent protagonist - which, frankly, is only done to avoid a spoiler that is made so blatantly obvious within the first hour of Ludger and Elle being together, I can mention it and nobody will wonder if it was supposed to be a spoiler: Yes, she's his future kid.
They make it so obvious, I see no reason why they intended it to be a spoiler. Just put the cards on the table, let Ludger talk and maybe we could intergrate the Choices-Make-Affection-Rise occasions a bit better. You did a good job with it in Symphonia! And that affected the plot more than Xillia 2! I don't want to sound like an Old School Fangirl, but I honestly feel like the older Tales games did things 'better'! Symphonia did the Relationship Values better; Abyss did the "I'm a clone, by god, what am I doing here?!" plot better, including character development and the "My whole life was a lie" thing that I felt was sorely done in Xillia for Milla and Xillia 2 for Alt Milla.
I want to say they also did the well-intended villain better, but... did either of the villains in Xillia 2 have a Tales reason for doing things? Chronos just put the trial on us, cause we were hurting Origin, apparently... Bisley wants a world that, frankly, sounds good to my ears (Spirits and Great Spirits either disappearing or being under human control? Thank goodness, yes, let's go with that! At least then, humans will not be stuck between whatever temper tantrum they are currently throwing and us being the ones to solve the problem.) but it's not presented in a way like it would be a better alternative than what the party is doing. Or, specifically, Jude.
I completely forgot that the Xillia cast only spent a day in Elympios, before deciding to save that world, too... But then, maybe I can let that slide by saying the rush was too big and, you know, we had to have Magna Zero. (I'd rather have a well-done, not-rushed main arc than a rushed main arc with a poor post-game dungeon)
I dunno. If I had to say if Xillia or Xillia 2 is the better game... I can't decide. Both have potential, but do not go explore it fully due to reasons...

It's sad that this basically encompasses and clearly spells out one of the major issues in Case 2-1. And I'm so sad that Capcom fucked that case over so badly. Bad enough they had to give Phoenix amnesia, just to give us an excuse of a tutorial (YOUR GAME MECHANICS AND CONTROLS AREN'T DIFFICULT, TAKUMI! WE DON'T NEED A FUCKING TUTORIAL!) but this case just... ...I want to whack everyone over the head with a fire extinguisher myself, hoping to knock sense into them.

It is. EVERYONE has done it in mystery works and it has been played to the ground that people PARODY it. Hell, Agatha Christie mocked it in Death on the Nile. Also? Two examples in Ace Attorney use it and both times it would be impossible for the person to have remained alive long enough to write a name.
Mia's death. Brained with a statue. You see that she can barely manage to say Red White Blue before dying - in the Japanese version, it was struggling to barely say Ko... Na... Ko... Hell, if you are brained with something and suffer a skull fracture, you won't have time to write any name. And, obvious to us of course, but she'd never write her sister's name.
And Dusting Prince here. Um... he fell? He broke his neck?! Honey, if you break your neck but manage to survive, you are paralyzed. You can't write, period! Now, if he was lucky and broke his neck on a lower vertebrae, he might be able to slightly move and survive long enough... but his writing would be completely illegible. No way would you be able to write Maggie in cursive. Even if her name is Maggey. It's just... no. Impossible. (And that's not getting into the stupid idea that a left-handed baseball player would be incapable of writing with his right hand)

Ah, you mean it's overused. I can certainly understand that. And yes those two incidents are kind of stupid (and that's not even going into Neil Marshall) but I would like to point out that there are two cases where the victim wrote a message while dying and it was actually real. Namely, Romein LeTouse and Candice Arme. In those cases they died of blood loss so they were able to write something before dying.
