I'm by no means a native speaker of French, but I couldn't help but notice it; I think the accent mark's facing the wrong way. Shouldn't it be Très Bien, with an accent grave?

Does anyone know if they were using the original font package in the game for the English version, or did they have to use a new English one for it because it didn't have the English letters?
Since I've seen pure Japanese games with in-built English font packages, it's entirely possible that they don't have the French accented 'e' and had to substitute with whatever they had.

And purposefully spelling it wrong for the sake that the French thing is an act IS a possibility, but would it be too subtle for people to get?

The acute accent is correct, unless I'm a lot rustier with French than I thought. An acute accent is pronounced ay, and an accent grave is pronounced ehh. "Trés" should be pronounced more like "tray" than "treh".
(I keep the accents straight by remembering the accent in "Pokémon". Dorky like a fox!)

As far as pronunciation is concerned, this is right
é (l'accent aigue) is pronouncend like 'ay'
è (l'accent grave) is pornounced like 'eh'
(Well, honestly it would be easier for me to describe the difference in pronunciation in German (Es wäre dann halt ein 'langes e' bzw. ein kürzeres 'ä')... nevermind).
But it's still "très" (yes, and it is more pronounced like treh, like the 'e' in 'records' - but to be honest, if you would say très or trés to a Frenchman (both pronounced correctly) they would not hear too much of a difference, and everyone would understand you anyway ;)).

Glad someone brought this up as it's something that I've been wondering about ever since the case started. I assumed it was just an error with no deeper meaning
