That is entirely coincidental.
I just try to help who I can. If I feel someone is being mistreated and I see it I act.

Hmmm, interesting indeed. So when I commented on my topic about that unfortunate wiki event, you didn't felt anything, da?

Just because he is USING it doesn't explain a thing. I'm developing PWLib but I talk about and for all casemakers. So shouldn't I just talk about PWLib in that line? :phoenix:

If you were then I have to admit I don't come around this part of the forum pretty much at all. :oops:
I have seen a few topics while looking for info about Mecha's Case Maker and that is why I came to this topic.

So be sure to look the other casemakers topics too. There isn't only CM2.1 to be seen. Don't be so biased by CM series only, there are other options around. Even if you don't use them, at least comment on them, look at them, and don't just go talking only in CM stuff. That makes you look like a fanboy, and fanboys are crap imo, no matter witch casemaker they love, even PWLib.
Just because MB's CMs are longer on the scene doesn't mean that the other casemakers won't be good.

The only reason I use Mecha's CM right now is because I can use OCs in it. I tried most of the other case making stuff and left them because there was no OC support.
I checked around for that specifically.Image

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

KSA, just because someone mentions MB's Casemaker does not mean that s/he is advocating ignoring the others. There is nothing wrong with only talking about Casemaker. It is perfectly fine to have no interest in the other casemaking options. It is not an implication that the other casemakers are not good, just that the poster does not want to use them. Nobody has gotten on my back for only talking about PWLib, because that is the only method I am currently interested in using.

That said, I do agree that the wiki editing was uncalled for and childish.

Anyways, back on topic, Donald, PWLib will have support for OCs (as far as I can tell...?). But you're saying right now, and yeah, given your options right now...CM2.1 is the best.

With PWLib, you CAN use OCs. In fact, you can even upload your own evidence graphics and custom scene backgrounds, etc. There ARE other CMs that have that kind of support, not just Mecha's CMs. You can look at the PWLib thread's later posts to see what I mean.

Another question, how will the music looping be handled (if it will be)? If the engine uses fmod or something like that I'd guess an ogg with loopstart and loopend defined in samples would work, but otherwise no idea.

Just adding here that CM3 will allow you to set a start position for the music so that when it has been played once, it returns to the start position.

I'm on the same path at the moment. :) I know OGGs have the ability to have that data in the file, but as for MP3s and friends, I'll add an option to the editor to define the looping portion of the song. That should make things slightly easier.

Yes, we know PWLib supports OC's KSA, however, it's not released yet... so how can Donald use it instead of CM2.1 if it's not out yet? People are free to use whatever option they want to use, regardless of quality, reliability and release status. Donald only posts on CM threads as, he uses CM. He often posts to help people who have problems with it, which he can do as he uses the tool and knows his way around it. I'm sure when PWLib "Hayase" finally sees the light of day, and people start using it (Donald included) then people will post on topics regarding it.

This topic has gotten really out of hand now anyway, it should be kept for information about upcoming casemakers, a place for people to preview their tools collectively and NOT be ostracized depending on their preference.

On a side note, it's great to see you active again KanadaKid, i'm still holding on hope for a release of your casemaker in the near future :]

That was for Donald to see.

Anyway, I could release PWLib now. Now, now, but I would be in two problems: 1> no main tutorials yet. 2> some effects are missing and some functionalities are untested.
It seems people can wait a bit more for PWLib (as I can see, no one is really OMG!! PWLIB!!!), so I won't be in trouble for waiting a day or two more.

Excuse me? We were not ostracizing him, I merely said that there's more than one Casemaker that supports custom graphics. And KSA_Tech merely only showed a screenshot of PWLib. Did we say that we wanted Don to use PWLib? No, we did not.

Really, what is the matter?
When MB came with his CM3 almost everyone started ostracizing him, and I don't remember someone yelling it was wrong so fast.
If it wasn't for Super Judge Bro it was going to be like it was back them. Geez.

MB isn't god. Won't be and never was. As I'm not and will never be, same with KK and DJ.
If they were ostracizing me, what problem could be on that? People were ostracizing MB due to his CM for ages. Even with the bugs I've heard. So, stop with such comments. I just posted a single shot for Donald to see. And what if he abandons CM2.1 in favor of PWLib/other cm? It would be HIS own choice.

You ppl want a good casemaker, da? You want a half-baked casemaker to yell at, or a top quality one that makes you happy?

Wow, guys ... seriously, calm down. You're turning a fun hobby for everyone to enjoy into a big flame war, here. Just take a step back a breathe for a minute. Feel better? :P

I'm sure we all want what's best for every program featured here. A little competition is healthy, but seriously, you're jumping down each other's throats. Can't we all just get along and enjoy and comment about what ever case maker we like without our comments being misconstrued or someone getting all defensive?

The truth is, each of these projects are incredible gifts to the community, and we should all appreciate each one of them. Maybe in light of how hostile it has gotten, we could leave the arguing about which one is the best to PM's, please? Just a suggestion.

Anyway, thanks KanadaKid, KSA, AND Mecha for your efforts in making these great tools for fangame enthusiasts. I can't wait for this scene to explode with tons of new fangames <3

It's so easy to say when you're not under attack.

That was so random. It makes me feel "Why should I work on PWLib, to hear such comments?".

It seems that as PWLib got a possible release date, evil started to reign.

Hostility seems to be MB X Other CMs Authors. I never argued with KK or DJ and/or against their CMs.

I don't think mp3's that good of a choice for that really. Each time you save one it adds a bit of silence at the beginning and the end of the file, effectively screwing up the loop point definitions since it'll be trying to start/end the loop several samples earlier.

*Sighs*. I wasn't trying to attack you guys. Judge, none of my post was even remotely directed at you, mostly towards the way KSA was reacting to Donald's statement and Lynx's counter statement on the usage of CM2.1. KSA, again, my comments were merely pointing out the facts, I wasn't bashing you, or your case maker. Donald uses CM2.1 at the moment as it IS, without a shadow of a doubt, the only offline casemaker with support for OCs that's been released in any way shape or form, right? The reason I commented on "ostracizing" him was because of this comment;

Quote:
Hmmm, interesting indeed. So when I commented on my topic about that unfortunate wiki event, you didn't felt anything, da?

Just because he is USING it doesn't explain a thing. I'm developing PWLib but I talk about and for all casemakers. So shouldn't I just talk about PWLib in that line?

That line KSA, to me personally, seemed like a bit of an attack on Donald just because he was talking about CM2.1 and not talking about PWLib. As we've all commented on numerous times here, it's all personal preference. Some people are more interested in the developments on the horizon, the ones with more potential, others prefer to use the tools currently available to them, despite their flaws. Also, you comment on the fact that he only ever defends CM in his topics as a point that he doesn't care about the other casemakers, which I found a bit self-centered, that is all.

Either way, this whole thing is getting blown out of proportion with bad communication.. at least now everyone seems to be of the mindset that the topic needs to calm down, which I agree on. With the Hayase code for PWLib on the horizon, CM3 in production and KK's PW Case Editor to be released "Real Soon Now™" we should all just focus on the plethora of choice becoming available for budding fangame makers instead of dwelling on this small hiccup, right?

The mp3 format does that no matter what as far as i know. It always appends several miliseconds of silence on both sides, which is more than enough to notice it. That's why OGG is usually the better option, since it doesn't do that at all.

Ah, Mael, just to explain it, the wiki event had nothing to do with PWLib. It was an attack direct to me and only me.

We must not forget that CM2.1 ran free, with no other cms for all its life. It is the only offline available casemaker around as of today.

Now with the other CMs around, with new standards set by them, it's the time for a new generation of casemakers.

I don't know how well PWLib Hayase will be received. But the more users it has, the better feedback I can get. This works for other CMs too.

Just to clarify, I'm searching for the easiest to use offline case creating program that lets me use my OCs.
Once more come out I plan to try them. But I'm not a programing type. I look at some of the different topics and see allot of code.
I don't understand that stuff, never will probably. That is why I don't post. There is no need for me to but in when I don't understand a singe bit of it.

Once the new offline case creating programs come out I'll probably give them a try just to see how well they work for me.
In the end it will boil down to user friendliness and OC support.

In case this will help your decision, I'm making a program to convert a script like this:
Code:

{My name is Phoenix.}

To a PWlib script, thus making it easier to use. In case this effects your decision. :edgy:

Howdy, I'm some random guy who isn't really part of the community but watches this thread.

It seems to me that we're going to have, basically, three /types/ of case makers.

Mechabowser's case maker seems to me to be basically the RPGMaker of PW. Which is awesome, but.

PWLib looks to me to sorta be a Phoenix Wright coding language. That is, harder to learn, but more flexible when you get used to it. Of course, if you don't really need that flexibility for your game..

Kanadakid, meanwhile, looks to be going somewhere around the middle.

I don't understand why you're all getting so upset about this--well, that's a lie, I do.

i think there's an unspoken false dichotomy that one of these three has to be 'the best' (the best the best the best the best /4chan)

it's like an extension of console wars, except you guys don't seem to understand you're actually basically crippling the chances of /any/ of these getting released, since people are getting demotivated by it

PWLib even using scritping isn't that hard.

Here is the Tutorial 1 result file

Code:
#include(pwlib/pwlib.hlsl)

[game]
runscript("pw_initpwlib");
runscript("pw_initpwbgs");
runscript("pw_createema");
changetitle("My First PWLib game");
jumptoscript("run");

[run]
runscript("pw_usepwbgcourthall");
runscript("showpwchar");
runscript("pw_enableemanormal");
runscript("pw_showmessagebox");
runscript("setlipsynctochar");
runscript("pw_setnameboxtoema");
runscript("pw_showadvarrowmenu");
message("Hi, my name is Ema Skye.");
message("Scientifically speaking...");
message("Hmmm, did you know I'm Lana's sister?");

Tuto 3 will show how to better organize this code so it will be better to read and manage. But stil it doesn't look cryptic.

It might be best for you do delay PWLIB until you finish the Tutuorials, as many here will not understand the AIGE enough to make a decent case with it.
Besides, it's like getting a gaming system without the controller.

There's no real need to delay the release until the tutorials are out, as long as the tutorials are still going to be released, and either a reference or some sample code is provided.
Those who wanna try to work it out from the reference and sample code are free to do so, and get a head start, and those who'd rather wait for the tutorials still get their tutorials. ^_^

Agreed. I want to try it out sooner, regardless of tutorials. At least I know I can get support on here from KSA until the tutorials are out if need be.. I just want to start working on the game.

The tutorials are important to know what to do, and I need to test the command so i didn't let any microbugs out (so the tutos will come as i test them).

I want to see a quick release as well, this should be awesome.

However. I agree with KSA on this one. It's MUCH better to have tutorials when it first comes out. Makes for a much smoother first release. If he's killing 2 birds with one stone by doing bug testing AS he writes the tutorials, we shouldn't pressure him to release it before he's ready; it's part of his process. Besides, if he did release it without the tutorials, I'm sure this thread would explode with tons of questions about how to use it. Atleast with the tutorials, he can control that a little bit by saying "READ THE TUTORIALS BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS," etc.

We've been waiting a long time for a great PW case maker like this one. I can wait the estimated 2-3 days for him to write the tutorials, or even 2-3 weeks if he needs them. It feels so close we can taste the awesome now, but I suggest being patient :)
