Dynamic between Gumshoe and Edgeworth (SPOILERS all games)

Well, the only time we really see Edgeworth's point of view is 3-5, in which he thinks of Gumshoe as being impossible to get rid of like "gum on your shoe." Now that there's going to be a game featuring the two, do you think there's a specifc incident that triggered this, or is it the general annoyed factor at having him seemingly work on (and bungle) every case that Edgeworth has prosecuted where Wright is the defense attorney (1-2, 1-3, and 1-5 to an extent).
But, then there's the sympathy factor. I'm rereading the script for 3-5, and if you present the Magmatama to Gumshoe, he tries to eat it. Edgeworth wonders: (Nngh... Maybe his salary has been cut just a little too much...?). That isn't necessarily sympathy but maybe he empathsizes with his constant salary gnashing. After 2-4 Edgeworth talks to the chief and gets Gumshoe rehired.
Personally I think most of it is in good spirits, nothing really mean or humiliating except in court when the stakes are high.
Also, rereading the script, man, there is just so much awesome dialogue between the two. "Well, I suppose it takes a super-duper kind of dumb to miss a clue like this." (after finding the blackmail letter) - good one, Edgey. I'm really looking forward to playing this game whenever it comes out stateside.

Anyone who sees Phoenix and Maya for the first time, as they're investigating an area and making quips to each other, would sort of assume that Phoenix is constantly trying to get rid of Maya and doesn't like her much. But knowing them more closely would show that it's all sort of a mutual thing, and that they "hate to love" in a way.
Edgeworth and Gumshoe are sort of the same way. Edgeworth doesn't admit to liking Gumshoe, but doesn't really know what he'd do if he were without him.
