Why exactly do people bash Odoroki on being overshadowed and having his hand held throughout all the cases by Phoenix? Before I got the game I read about a bunch of people saying that this game feels like Phoenix's game rather than Odoroki's due to Phoenix apparently overshadowing the guy constantly. Hearing that I excepted to see Phoenix going "Hint hint" or "No it's like this" all throughout the game but I saw nothing like that when I finally got the game for myself.

I mean in the first case I can understand because I could not see Odoroki completing that case without Phoenix's help I mean without him the trial would have been increased to another day and who know's what Kirihito would have come up with to defend himself during that time.

Also the fourth case had alot to do with Phoenix's past so I can understand people's claims for that case but c'mon that was the whole point. For both Phoenix and Odoroki to team up to win the case.

But in the 2nd and third cases Phoenix was hardly in the picture, Minuki was by Odoroki's side in those cases and not Phoenix to "hold his hand" like so many others claim and Odoroki was able to handle most of the testimonys during those trials just fine.

So could someone explain to me exactly how Phoenix supposedly overshadowed Odoroki?

It's because everything in the overarching plot leads back to Phoenix, not so much the individual cases. Phoenix wasn't in 4-2 very much, but Ema would have never helped you if it wasn't for him. That's a pretty big bit of "help". In 4-3, Phoenix delivers key evidence. Yes, in 4-2 and 4-3 his screentime was minimal, but you felt him where ever you went. If it wasn't his involvement in key scenes to keep you going, it was Minuki or Ema mentioning him.

Then, in the last case, which traditionally keeps "mentors" to a bare mimimum, Phoenix instead steals the entire show. As I said on gamefaqs: Instead of Phoenix bowing out for that final case--where Odoroki should be depending and exploring the bonds he's made with the cast--Phoenix takes over. Whose name is it that Kirihito SCREAMS in fury? Who does Odoroki give all the credit to? Who is the last person we talk to before "roll credits"?
