Best thnk is to go and get Rosetta Stone. I lernt my spainish and 3/4 of my German from.

No amount of reading the French dictionary is going to substitute from learning from a teacher and/or a French environment. Conversational French is mastered through...y'know. Conversation. With a person.
People post their incredulity because the internet is probably the worst place to learn a language. I learned French by studying it for six years, and I'm damn near fluent in the language. This shit isn't instant.
Rosetta Stone is supposedly for providing basic language skills as a stepping stone to improve them elsewhere. If you read her post, she already knows the basics of French so getting it would be a waste of money.

lol I used that when I was in Japanese (But some of the translations aren't that accruate and I had to fix them with a different translator)
Also I'd like to suggest listening to Podcasts for foreign languages. I did that with Japanese and it helped me as well, and I have seen some French ones. They cover pretty much everything so I think casual French should be there.

First, that made my day with both the "asshat" reference (I use that word in my daily life) and the French.
Second, I'm in year 3 of French, and I'm okay with it, I don't know exactly how much you need to know, I mean, I can write sufficient essays in French. (My first language is English, just so you know...)
