((Awesome :) ))

Not sure what to say, Al was obviously too paniced to talk still, and Zeth wasn't sure how to calm him down. Getting correct verdicts was what he was good at. He left the people person type thing to other lawyers more better at it than him... like that Phoenix Wright guy...

Leaping in fright as his cell phone suddenly blasted 'Driver's side' by a band called Zed, Zeth dived for his pocket and pulled out a simple nokia with a slide down key guard. Checking the caller ID, nothing came up.

"Mysterious person calling me during a case with mafia involved," Zeth breathed cautiously, "This can either be REALLY good or EXTREMELY bad..." Letting out a deep breath, Zeth pushed the answer call button, and brought the phone to his ear, "Gant speaking."

"The defense, I know." The attorney said. "You know that crime-syndicate excuse that Fernando made?" He asked. "It's not just an excuse, and it was not a random crime syndicate. I'm sure you suspected something when it was revealed that Fernando attempted to hide critical evidence. We have reason to suspect that your client wasn't even at the restaurant at the time of the murder."

Zeth waited as the voice at the other end talked. Waiting for them to stop, Zeth sighed loudly, and rubbed his temples. This was going to be a long day. Atleast there was someone that could confirm his suspicions.

"I'm sorry, I appeared to have missed your name... who is this?" Zeth asked, looking up slightly as he twirled a lock of hair in front of his head nonchalantly.

"I am not exactly in a safe place to tell you." The attorney said. "I do not trust this hospital, seeing as its staff tried to aggravate Ms. Fey's condition with an injection of water. We got her out of here safely. It turns out that the Don's daughter works here. I would not be surprised if the mafia was running this hospital."

((OK- that got Zeth's attention finally :) BTW- this attorney a guy or girl?))

"WHAT?!" Zeth blurt out in shock, suddenly realizing his volume. Lowering his voice to a quieter level, Zeth brushed off his surprised disposition, "Is she ok? Miss Fey I mean? She was rushed out so quickly... no one got to find out what really happened to her. I suspected that the Don had managed to get to her and I've been wary of his movements since, but..." Pausing for a moment to calm himself down, he'd have to take this man's concern for Martha as a sign that he was atleast on his team, and likely not trying to steer him wrong. Especially since he figured alot of it out himself already and it all confirmed pretty well.

"OK, tell me this then," Zeth asked, "Do you know how much of the evidence in this case is accurate then? Would you know? Obviously the gun is tampered with, by what else is?" Pausing for a moment as he thought about it some more, Zeth's eyes widened as he hushed his voice, hiding it from Al, "Could it be possible that the victims in the case are incorrect? ANYTHING. If it's possible that his family is still alive, I might get something that resembles evidence off him."

Negotiate all you want, you'd be wasting time on things that aren't within your jurisdiction. I say get 'em while he's in the law's grasp. I did my part, you do yours, regardless of your role as federal prosecutor."

"Very well, Sir," Lucias said. "It's not like I'm the one who is in real trouble here, anyway. Miss Fey is." I wonder how she's doing... "And so are you, assuming you are found. The don might forgive me for grilling him, but someone who kidnaps his daughter, well...What are the chances of them getting away?" he smiled slightly. "I trust you'll return his daughter safely to him in a way where he doesn't know it was you who did it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I really should question Mr. Palochini. Fifteen minutes isn't really that long." Lucias hung up the phone. "I'm very sorry, Mr. Palochini. Now, if you would tell me what happened last night, it would really be appreciated." I'm not going to directly threaten him unless I absolutely have to.

((The attorney is a guy)).

"The whole incident does not add up." The attorney told Zeth. "We have evidence to prove that the defendant was meeting with the Don at the time of the alleged murder, which, unfortunately, did occur. For the sake of understanding, when did Ms. Fey's last trial end?" He asked.

((*cougheightcough*))
------------------------------
"It's not like I have any proof of what I did anyway." Don told Lucias.

"Her last trail?" Zeth echoed, picking his voice back up, "That's easy. It was the Cat versus Calamari case which she hopped straight into after that Bell versus Sanchez one I did some analysis for. That one was all over the news later that night." Chuckling to himself cheerfully, Zeth grinned, "Twiddle Dumb reckoned that it was wrapping up at 8pm. It was a great case. I was in the audience for that one also." Glancing back up again, Zeth raised a brow, "What evidence do you have to prove that they met up?"

"Oh.... Ummmm.... I was actually referring to State vs. Butz." The attorney told Zeth. "Anyways, we have a record of Al's discussion with Ms. Fey. Upon our confirmation, we found that he and the Don had a meeting at around 7pm. They watched Ms. Fey's trial, then continued discussion afterward at 8pm. Now mind you that this was never apart of Ms. Fey's discussion. We have actual records to prove that such a meeting took place. Now what did the prosecution say happened at the restaurant, at 8pm?" The attorney asked. "Well either way, Ms. Fey would like to talk to you regarding this case. Due to both her medical condition and situation with the mob, we got her out of the hospital and to the courthouse. You should go outside and wait for the ambulance, where Ms. Fey is located. For safety reasons, this ambulance is going to look like a government vehicle."
------------------------
The ambulance went into an alley and parked. The doctors inside went outside to apply the disguise on the vehicle; the disguise being located in a place where you'd expect to find medical equipment.

After applying the disguise, the ambulance left the alley.
------------------------
"Bring Al with you. That, or get the Judge to watch him.... Or something." The attorney concluded.
------------------------
"The 'truth' means nothing when my friggin' gun is making me out to be someone I'm not. That right there is proof. Against that, I have none. Don't you understand how bad this looks for me and my company?" Don asked.

"Yes, I do understand how bad that looks for your company. And I'm not asking about the gun. I'm asking about what happened the night of the murder. Listen more carefully, Mr. Palochini. If you don't, you might, frankly, be ripped a new asshole by Mr. Gant," Lucias said. "Now, would you please tell me what happened last night?" I can ask about the gun later. Right now, I have to make sure my case has at least some leg to stand on, even if it's a bum one.

~Martha~
Martha couldn't channel anymore. Not on purpose, anyway. She needed to concentrate too hard, and it was giving her a headache. Not to mention, she was tired of not knowing what was going on. Tired of only seeing darkness. She hoped she was safe wherever she was as she dared to open an eye.

"Hrmph," Zeth retort as the mysterious attorney tried to tell him how to treat his client. He didn't like his pushy attitude, but for now, he had to play along. For evidence sakes, "Fine. I unfortunately can't take Al outside, so I will have to rely on the guards to take care of him."

Sighing as he hung up, Zeth paused in position for a moment. Madness. Why do I always put my name down for the crazy cases. It all looked sonormal up until I took the stand...

Glancing to Al, Zeth gave him a smile, "Machino, I need to head out for a few minutes and meet up with a key witness. Will you be fine if I get some security guards to keep a watch on this room for me?"

"I don't care. I'll be dead anyway." Al told Zeth. "You go do your thing."

The ambulance arrived at the courthouse shortly after Zeth hung up. "I still don't know whether or not your faking, but you can stop it now." The same doctor asked. "In fact, you could have stopped earlier."

"How about you leave that up to me to worry about, k?" Zeth smiled, "I'll make that Don tell the truth even if I have to bleed every other lie out of him first."

Stepping outside the door, Zeth spotted some security wandering around.

"Excuse me!" Zeth called out to them, " Could you watch over the defendant's lobby till I get back? I need to make sure that my client is safe, specially after what happened to his last attorney."

*cue, Zeth waits for security to get in place. Trying to cut this short cause it's WAY late in NZ >.>*

Confident that Al was safe without him for a while, Zeth jogged down the hall to the front entrance. Stopping at the designated spot, Zeth's eyes darted about urgently for signs of an incognito ambulance.

"I hope it's here," Zeth mumbled to himself, "An Ambulance in disguise sounds very fishy. I don't like dealing with mysterious people, but if they have Martha and they have bad intentions, then I'll play along till I know she's safe atleast."

((Hrmm- Zeth is awefully concerned for Martha's well-being ^^ Maybe it's a Fey trait to bring out the best in men?))

"If I wasn't faking, then what?" Martha asked with a dopey smile on her face. "You'd have been talking to a corpse." Then, she became serious. "Okay, so where are we heading? The courthouse? Yeah, that would be best. I could be of some use, after all. So, will the attorney see me, or are they in the courtroom, continuing the trial right now? I don't want to interrupt if they were just gathering momentum."

"They're in recess." A doctor told Martha. "Thank goodness, too. I'm not sure what the Don was thinking when he faked his way to a recess, but it just gives us the opportunity to get him convicted."
-----------------
An ambulance-like car with "Security" written on it drove into the courthouse parking lot.

"I can tell you anything you want, but as long as the court has my gun, my testimony is worthless." Don told Lucias.

~Lucias~
"Let me be the judge of that, Mr. Palochini," Lucias replied. "Ignore the gun for now. If you tell the truth, that's what the evidence will point to. The gun is just a monkey wrench." He sounded confident, but deep down, he was sure whatever Don Palochini said would be a lie. If he doesn't tell the truth, that's fine. Together, Mr. Gant and I will find out exactly what is going on, whether or not Mr. Palochini cooperates.

~Martha~
"So, Mr. Palochini faked a health condition to get a recess?" Martha asked. "That's ridiculous, but I can see why he'd do it. It gives him time to come up with a recovery of sorts." She smiled. "So, we're here now. What now? I mean, I'm pretty sure I can't just waltz in there without at least one person from the mafia seeing me..."

"I think this court has dealt with enough incompetent people today." Don told Lucias. "My testimony is nothing but hearsay in comparison to the fact that my gun was in the hands of a suspicious detective, who probably took my gun to hide his tracks! To testify about such a guess is merely conjecture. Can't you see how much of a pickle I'm in?!" Don asked Lucias. "I can't just simply ignore such facts, as you're asking me too!"
---------------------------
"Allow me." The driver said, who then honked the ambulance's horn twice.

~Lucias~
Lucias heard a horn honk twice and glanced out the window before answering Don. Looked like there was a security vehicle out there. But why would one show up right then? It wasn't like anyone was in more or less danger than they were in at the start of the trial...They could be here to watch over Mr. Gant. After what happened to Ms. Fey, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. In fact, I think it's about time they showed up.
"That detective you are accusing of taking your gun is your relative, Mr. Palochini. I think you're trying to pin the blame on someone who has nothing to do with it. If the detective did any rigging, it wasn't the replacing of the gun." He sighed. "But, since you're so eager to talk about this evidence, then I suppose I have no choice but to ask you about the last time you remember having your gun with you."

~Martha~
Martha had no clue what was going on, which frightened her. Then again, she's had to go with the flow so many times that day...I have no choice but to trust these guys with their choices. He honked the horn twice, which means he's trying to signal a certain person to come here. I wonder who it could be...Maybe Mr. Mercad? Or Mr. Gant, perhaps. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Don flinched, but quickly recovered. "I'm only making guesses that are currently outweighed by evidence that has already been presented. What're you doing, Mr. federal prosecutor, besides bothering a restaurant owner about issues about both his testimony and his restaurant's public image at the same time, and whose daughter is being held hostage?" Don asked. "If this line of questioning was used in court, the judge would have already penalized you right before you got into your bit about evidence. D'you think I can conjure up evidence out of thin air? And so what if I'm related to a detective? If you're looking for the truth, wouldn't be more productive to ask about a sibling or family rivalry or something? At least that'd get you somewhere productive, unlike this current bit on unsupported conjecture. At least I've got the guts to admit that I'm conjecturing about this whole mess, unlike a certain prosecutor."

Darting his eyes over to a car nearby, Zeth narrowed his eyes.

This is crazy, Zeth warned himself as he strode over to the car, These guys could be mafia. You should have security, or atleast a damn gun. They already took out Martha. What's stopping them from running you over? Having a quick glance around, he didn't spot any cameras and he hadn't really paid attention to if the court had any up until now. Briefly adopting a slight grimace, Zeth strut up to the door of the car.

"Are you my mysterious friend? Do you have her?"

"Do you think that I am an idiot, Mr. Palochini?" Lucias asked casually. Then, he glared at Don. "Did you really think I wouldn't notice how Mr. Fernando Palochini kept looking at you to approve his every move?" He sighed. "And I noticed how he tried to cover up the gun's identification number so it wouldn't lead back to you. Before Mr. Palochini received the gun, there was a number, and after he examined it, plastic was covering it up. Did you really think none of us would notice this?" He put his thumb and index finger on his forehead and started rubbing. "If there is a family rivalry, it isn't between you two. In fact, he knew what consequences forging evidence held for him, but he did it anyway to pull suspicion away from you, even though he failed in the end. If anything, you two are closer than most families." He looked at Don again with a knowing look. "You may think everything I say is conjecture, but I never say anything without proof of some kind. What I see with my own eyes counts." He looked out the window again, then looked back at Don. "So, leave the pinning the blame on someone to me, and tell me when you last remember having your gun."

"Yes we do." The driver told Zeth, nodding his head at he said that. He then rolled down the window. "We also have the documentation about your client's 'appointment'." He said, as he took some documents from the glove compartment, then handing them to Zeth.

As that was going on, some of the doctors filed out of the ambulance, while some stayed behind with Martha.
-----------------------
"Well obviously you've made a conjecture about what you saw." Don said plainly, suppressing his anger the best that he could.. "Besides, as long as that detective has my gun, he'll make up a story about me. Why haven't you pressured him about my gun?" Don asked. "He's the one who tried to modify evidence; I'm the one who's reputation is on the line!" Don's anger fired up again.

"I'm the one whom the detective says owns the gun, I'm the one who owns the place where the murder took place, I'm the one who looks like a friggin' criminal!!" Don yelled, increasing his volume after each statement. "Unlike me, he's actually at the evidence, and thus, is in a position to modify it any which way he pleases! And what've I got? Nothing! Nothing but a testimony that's invalid because my gun is with him, contradicting whatever statement I make! Even if I do make sense, look at that audience! They find that it's my gun, they find that I was responsible for the murder, without due process on my part! Do you know how that feels?!

"And to make things worse, my daughter was kidnapped during your harassment!" Don continued, yelling. "It was bad enough that Ms. Fey refused to help me with my lawsuit against that damned detective, but you've decided that instead of pursuing justice, you're accusing an innocent man of an irrelevant crime! Now unless you intend to ask questions that would lead to justice, I've got nothing more to say; there's enough incriminating evidence against me as it is."

Zeth gave the documents a quick glance before looking back at the driver,

"Now, let me get this straight, Fey is in your car, and you're going to let her out so she can help testify right?" Leaning on the door with his arm, Zeth smirked, "Perhaps my new friend is in there also?"

"The attorney? No, he's not with us." The driver told Zeth. "As for Ms. Fey, I suggest you talk to her before we talk about making her a witness. Besides, I think it's a little early to use her testimony. We have about...." The driver looked at the car's clock, "... 8 minutes until the recess ends."

"She's in the back, with the doctors." The driver told Zeth. He turned his head toward the back. "You can let her out now, guys." He told the other doctors, whom opened up the back doors of the ambulance, allowing for Martha to exit the vehicle or to allow Zeth to talk to her.

Rushing up to Martha Fey, she sat on the stretcher in the ambulance, slightly drained, but she still seemed determined looking. Smiling as he could see she was upright this time, Zeth walked upto her and knelt down in front of her.

"Miss Fey, I've taken over defending your client since you got taken to the hospital. I assume you've been fully briefed with how much I know? Cause I could sure use your help to bring Al Machino to justice."

((Sorry for the lateness, but here goes. Probably going to crash and burn, but...))

~Lucias~
Lucias waited patiently for Don to finish his rant before speaking.
"Right. Conjecture about what I saw. There is no possible way the security tapes could support anything," he mumbled sarcastically. He sighed and put his fingers to his forehead again. Don Palochini was right. All the evidence definitely lead to him. Probably because he's the one who did it. Why waste my time? Anything I say will just piss him off. And to what point and purpose?
Let the defense worry about accusing someone else of this. It's your job for there to be justice, and if Mr. Palochini didn't do it, then what?

"Mr. Palochini," he said. "I regret to say this, but she would have been kidnapped whether or not I was questioning you." Liar. The whole reason the guy kidnapped her in the first place was to try to get him to cooperate. A futile effort on their part. He stopped short, breathed deeply, and continued, "You're right. You don't need to have anymore incriminating evidence against you. So, I ask you where you last remember having your gun so we have something to go off of. But if you'll just get angry whenever I try getting any kind of information from you that could point us to who is framing you and why, then it's going to be that much harder on everyone. You can accuse this detective all you want, but it won't hold water the way the accusation is now. It's just conjecture. Now, I ask you, 'Where did you last have your gun?'" He's probably not telling me because he last had it at the restaurant where Al's family was killed, probably by Mr. Palochini's hand.

~Martha~
"Hm...Yes, I do know the situation," Martha replied. "Maybe even better than you do." It was so simple when she was riding there to stick to her guns, but now, she was having second thoughts of being there. The very person who tried to kill her would be in there. And what if her channeling didn't work? It had been years since she tried. And then there was Al, who, whether he was found guilty or not guilty, would die soon after the trial. And she was no better off than him. She wondered whether or not to tell Mr. Gant this information, but then decided against it. Why put anymore pressure on the attorney? It was stressful enough for him to take over the case in the first place. "Justice..." She then smiled. "Mr. Gant, do you know what my last name means?"

((It's ok. At least we can move on now)).

Don let out a deep sigh. "I don't know what to say. I don't think that the jury would believe me if I were to tell them about my gun. Plus, I don't think too many people have an office like mine, so they'd probably think that my sound-proof office would be an excuse for not having heard the situation." Don seems calmer now, but he still probably wouldn't cooperate.

"Miss Fey, yes... to a degree," Zeth replied positively, "You're a family of mostly sisters in Kurain village, some who possess the ability to channel..." Glancing aside, he hoped he didn't sound like a fanboy. He had to do some special research when he found out a while back about the Kurain channelling technique. He had a feeling it had been used in court before, but he had never seen her use it, so he assumed that it missed generations ever now and then, or that she used it outside of court. He never pried too deeply into the personal lives of good lawyers too deeply. Just the crooked ones. He had to draw a line SOMEWHERE to how much he knew about those around him.

Giving her a facial shrug, he grinned, "I don't know a huge amount about the technique though. The village like to keep it to themselves now days it seems. Based on past trails however, I have seen uses of the technique for generating evidence, but the court seems to have ruled out the technique as qualified evidence." Glancing aside again, Zeth twitched nervously, "To be honest, I don't know if the technique is real cause what I've read could also be faked very easily." Glancing back to Martha though, Zeth smiled, "But you know enough about the case to not need worrying about it, right? You can't ignore decisive evidence!"

Grabbing her hand and giving it a tug urgently, Zeth motioned his head to the door, "Al is waiting for me in the defence lobby, and we don't have much recess time left. Lets see how much water we can get out of this rock before the trial starts again!"

~Martha~

Martha smiled. Of course he hadn't seen the technique used in person. Very few have since most people of the Fey family were like her: away from Kurain, probably not channeling at all since leaving. The only person who would stay in that village and train would be the next Master. At the mention of going back to the courthouse, fear got a stranglehold on Martha. She could tell her eyes were widening. Everything was so normal, then she couldn't see and...You have to go in there for justice. You can't let Mr. Palochini get away with poisoning you, and possibly killing Mr. Machino's family. She sighed and stood up, her legs shaky, but stable.
"Mr. Machino wouldn't talk to me last time I tried," Martha said. In fact, he was talking with Mr. Mercad. "But maybe he will now." She took a shaky step forward.

~Lucias~
Hm...Well, at least he's calm. Maybe I should try getting other information out of him, since this will just be a waste of time otherwise. He mentioned something about his office...Maybe I could go from there, Lucias thought, sucking his lollipop. "So, your office is sound-proof, but not completely?" he asked.

"Miss Fey!" Zeth yelped, grabbing her as she adopted a paniced, light headed look as she stood up and took a step forward. Supporting her till she stopped shaking, Zeth bit his lip in worry. She just got out of hospital and now you're asking so much of her.

"You were poisoned, right?" Zeth asked softly, "You should take it easy for a while. Don't over strain yourself. You may be still weak from it." Noticing finally that although she was unsteady, she was still able to walk, he let go of her carefully, hoping that she didn't fall over, "I think we're both now more understanding of the situation. I'll help you to the defence lobby." Taking her hand, he started to lead out of the ambulance. Turning back to her momentarily, Zeth looked concerned, "Would you like to be my aid at the stand? I would offer the job back to you, but you've been through an ordeal already..."
