As far as I've seen, the characters who have accents show as much in their speech text, Jean being a good example with his "H deficiency". However, though she was born and raised in Germany, therefore likely raised speaking German, Franziska shows no accent in her text. (Note: I've seen her only in Trials and Tribulations since I never completed the other games n.n;)
My theory is this; if she has no accent, it is because she wished to speak perfect English, and had to drop any accent that she might have had. Or, she has no accent due to having been taught English while growing up.
My question is, though: Should she have an accent in an actual voice, even though she has none in her text? Or her objection? (Not that there's much room for a German accent in the word "Objection", but still... :yuusaku:)

Also, if this is in the wrong place, please tell me so. The board description said it was for "Misc Fanstuff/Discussion that doesn't go elsewhere such as 'graphics' and Photoshopping", so I figured a question like this would fit here n.n;

Well, everyone thinks Edgeworth should have a British accent (even though he should also have a German accent if anything, growing up in Germany).

Anyway, don't take their English VA as cannon. In the Japan version they all sound Japanese, because the VAs are from Japan (I assume).

I agree with the "perfect" English thing; it just seems like something she would do.
As neo said, I wouldn't consider the VAs cannon, but I guess if her text doesn't have an accent, she shouldn't either...

Yeah, Franziska is like my cousin. She will do anything to assimilate perfectly into American culture. :franny:

As for Edgeworth should have a German accent, he shouldn't because when he moved there, he was like 9 years old and already formed his british accent by then hopefully....... :udgy:

I'm latin american and never lived in America, and have a perfect english accent... same as french, but I don't speak French (but have a perfect accent), that could be Franzy's case.

In my headcanon, she doesn't do the 'JA JA I AM GERMAN JA JA" thing because actual German people don't do that.

Jean Armstrong is faking his accent; remember the line where the Judge tells him, "That's not even French!" Likewise, Klavier is definitely exaggerating/faking. Fraulein isn't exactly a politically correct term to throw around, and most actual German people wouldn't, I think. And 'Yes' certainly isn't a hard word...

But again, in my headcanon, Franziska sometimes exaggerates her accent in order to play the 'silly foreigner,' and does the 'foolish fools' thing for the same reason. Several of her lines show a very idiomatic grasp of English, so she knows her stuff. Of course, it could also just be a bit of clumsiness in the translation.

Franziska would not like Klavier Gavin at all.

I always figured Manfred von Karma would have not accepted anything less than perfection in his children's speech. If they were going to learn English, they'd learn it PERFECTLY. Accents would be unacceptable in his household.

If anything, I figured Manfred would teach British English, as it's technically more proper. Maybe that's where Edgey's accent came from. He grew up in the US, so he didn't originally have one, but Manfred forced it on him. I'd think Franziska would be more likely to have a British accent than a German accent as well...

Edgeworth is a bit easy to explain...Received Pronunciation. It's called that because just about nobody, even in England, grew up speaking it. Instead, you learn it if you attend a snobby Public school. Von Karma may have put Edgeworth in a snobby English Public school, so he wouldn't have to see the person who shot him every day. This also explains where Edgeworth picked up his tea habit.

I've often wondered about this, too. Manfred doesn't have an accent either, so my guess is that both of them learned to speak perfect, unaccented English.

Franziska has some odd lines in T&T. A few of them seem to be pretending ignorance about American culture in order to make fun of it. The lines in question are where she asks whether Americans do whatever they want without regard to rules (when Phoenix suggests that they should obey the 'Do not Enter" sign) and when she asks whether Americans use gravy when paint is not available (regarding the gravy-covered scroll).

When she mistakes the tie-down point for the bridge cables (what do you call that anyway?) for a boat mooring, she probably just said something stupid without thinking.

There's an explanation for when she asks whether the Buddha statues represent the number of siblings Sister Bikini has. Either they are or she is mistaking them for statues of Jizo, the guardian of children. People in Japan erect them in honor of children who have died.

As for "huffy-puffy loosey-goosey whimpering whining wuss of a witness," your guess is as good as mine. I have never figured out that line.

Actually, I know a few people who are from Germany. When they speak English, it sounds slightly British. So, Edgeworth could totally have a British-y accent. ^_^

Huh. Maybe she tries to, in her spare time, learn American local slang and stuff. Which would explain that one time she said 'whatever' which really didn't seem like 'High Class German Prosecutor Franziska von Karma'.

I've read that after a certain age (usually between fifteen and twenty-five), it becomes impossible to learn new accents, even if you learn the associated language. Considering that Franziska spoke English as early as thirteen, I don't think it's a stretch to say that she had no trouble also mastering the associated accent--though whether she learned an English or American accent is open to interpretation, since the only English-language voice clip we have of her doesn't give us much room to distinguish between the two accents.

Franziska's English VA sounds slightly Asian/American to me for some reason.
I always imagine Maya/Mia as Japanese or Japanese-Americans.

I think Franziska might have a slight German accent when she speaks... But I also think she learned that 'perfect English' when she grew up.
And Miles' 'british accent'... Doesn't Miles Edgeworth sound slightly more British than American in the first place? Who knows, maybe Gregory came from England originally.

Though I can also imagine Miles speaking perfect German too.

I don't think Miles has any strong accent, I kinda imagine he sounds... Accent neutral...? :'DDD I don't know what I'm saying anymore. xD

She speaks with a very American accent, in my opinion. I've been to Holland loads of times(where they don't speak English as a first language), and when a lot of the Dutch speak English, it's with an American accent. It's because of American TV, and that, isn't it? It's possible Franziska learnt her pronounciation from watching TV, and speaks with an American accent because of that.

It is impossible to receive American TV in germany. But since Ace Attorney plays in the future... oh well, I guess it could be possible.
However, you usually learn Oxford English in Germany at school first. If she wasnt at a private school, and I think she was, she wouldn't have a perfect American accent. But we can't make that out from only one word.

But you can get American programmes with German subtitles, can't you? I've been to Germany, and I've seen American programmes on the TV. =/

Would Franny watch MTV? Doubtful. She'd whip the TV when she saw it. She probably just watches humorless TV shows on A&E or Cold Case, ect
